When Gas Prices Rise, They’re Hard to Bring Down. Here’s Why.

Despite the cease-fire in the Middle East, prices at the pump are still rising

Here in Canada we’re about to have the switch from winter to summer grade gasoline which results in increases in prices. So even if oil comes down a little prices at the pump are headed higher. Sigh.

I just paid $58 to put 12 gallons of regular grade gas in my car, at the station at the supermarket where I can use reward points from my food shopping there. I need to eat more and drive less.

I've only noticed a slight increase. Before the war, I paid $20 to fill up my tank. Now, I pay $25.

I walk a significant amount, so my extra monthly gas costs about the same as one restaurant meal.

I think we’re seeing the in-between phase. There’s upward pressure from the conflict and Hormuz, but it’s being softened by reserves and people cutting back on driving. If things continue to escalate or drag out, it probably won’t stay that mild. If more people start pulling back, that’s when it becomes a broader GDP issue, not just gas prices.

I just left Florida this week: I was doing a whole lot of driving, but 100-150 miles to the next city beats the distance between cities in the Midwest.

But the prices were $4 when I arrived 3 weeks ago, then they went down when it seemed T gave an “extension”. But then it went right back up again after the latest news 🤦🏽‍♂️ like I literally got 3/4 tank for $3.79 in one town, used it up driving to another city, came back and the next day went to refill it jumped to $4.17 😤

Below is a Circle K station in Orlando. The prices were about the same everywhere. What really gets me isn’t just the high price, but why is midgrade and premium running 50-90 cents more??? There’s not supposed to be much “noticeable” difference but regular is cheaper for a reason. But midgrade is about the most I been doing, buying premium feels like an insult

Several states increased gas taxes this year:

California consistently has the highest gas prices. Chicago area is also bad for it. But the prices in California are sickening. Every couple or so years, they break headlines 📰 for hitting the $7-8-9 mark somewhere

I remember one trip, I put $50 and only got half a tank. When normally, $50 fills the tank when it’s $3/gallon or less.

As of April 2026, jet fuel (Jet A) prices in the U.S. generally range between $3.87 and $4.88 per gallon for commercial airlines. Regional and fixed-base operator (FBO) prices for private or general aviation often range higher, with average prices around $7.08 to over $8 per gallon.

My Private Jet may have to be mothballed...

Prices at my local WAWA (popular convenience stores on east coast), was $3.89 a gallon, in Philly.  Down 10 cents from last fill up!
That is not bad, after seeing what some of you are paying in other states.

Here in Canada the government has cut the federal excise tax on gasoline and as a result the price at the pump has been reduced significantly. It’s supposed to last until the end of the year.
The government was able to do this fiscally because Canada is a net exporter of oil and the money is gushing in at both the federal and provincial levels for those provinces producing oil and natural gas.

I doubt it. The people who hire escorts are probably the last to be affected by a cost of living squeeze. After all, these expenditures are largely discretionary and the clients are usually in a position to have large discretionary incomes not burdened with children, wives and other dependents.
In my case, I have no kids to leave my money to and my siblings are all relatively well off.  My left overs will go to charities. And maybe something for my favourite providers.

As spare money is affected by higher gas prices... folks limit their unnecessary expenses.

There’s a wide spectrum of clients.  Some scrimp & save to see an escort for an hour once a month; others hire for evenings, weekends, week-long vacations without bothering to check their bank balances.  The scrimp & save guys do a lot less hiring, but there are also (I’m guessing) a lot more of them.  Spending $50 more a month on gas must affect them at least a little bit.  Maybe they hire once every 6 weeks instead of once a month.  For the clients on the other end of the spectrum, gas prices?  Pffft!
