I've spent over $10K on my teeth over the last 15 years. That’s nothing, less than a thousand a year. I go four time yearly for cleaning and that’s around $1300. Other work from time to time is much more expensive. A root canal was about $1500 and a crown more than that. My benefits tap out at $1200 annually. To be fair my premiums are rather small, around $390 per year. In the last 12 months I had to have a molar extracted when the root canal failed after a year. That was covered by our universal healthcare. I was told an implant would cost about $4000 but I could think about it as it is at the back of my mouth. Actually one less tooth to get in the way when I’m deepthroating. Edited August 30 by Luv2play CuriousByNature and pubic_assistance 1 1

+ purplekow Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) How is it that there are so many successful Russian and Eastern European tennis players, especially in the Women's game? I know the government of some countries select out youngsters who show a proclivity for certain sports and then school them to succeed in that, usually the exclusion of other parts of their education. Usually, here in the US, it is usually the parents pushing those grueling hours of practice onto their children. Sometimes it pays of big like for "King" Richard Williams and two of his daughters. Usually, here in the US, it is usually the parents pushing those grueling hours of practice onto their children. Sometimes it pays of big like for "King" Richard Williams and two of his daughters. I think it's because there are few other woman's sports that get much international coverage, and Russian and eastern European women with any physical ability at it will get support from the government if it appears that they have the talent to represent their country in competition on the international stage. That has been harder to accomplish since the tennis federations have banned use of the Russian flag next to the player's name because of the Russia/Ukraine war, so some of the top players have actually started playing as representatives of other Eastern countries' federations, like Kazakhstan (e.g., Elena Rybakina), even though they are ethnic Russians. Daria Kazatkina recently left Russia altogether and emigrated to Australia, mostly because she is a lesbian and therefore the Russians don't want her representing them anyway. If you asked most American fans about Victoria Azarenka, they probably couldn't tell you her origin (Belorussia), because she and her son live in the US and seem more like Americans. thomas 1
+ purplekow Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Thanks for that Charlie. Completely different topic. I left my car in front of a hotel and told the valet parking attendant, I would be back in 20 minutes. He told me it was fine to leave my car where it was, but I would have to leave him the key in case there was an emergency and it needed to me moved. No charge. When I returned, the driver's seat was totally reclined and the radio had been changed to a different station. There was a different attendant on duty. What is the proper response to this? I wound up giving the attendant a tip and I did not report it to the hotel. + Oliver and + Charlie 1 1

BigK Posted August 31 Posted August 31 I just caught an old but classic movie on TV. Hobsons Choice with Charles Laughton. It’s from the early 50s and it’s quite the farce.

It is an excellent name for a farce,. Edited September 3 by purplekow

mike carey Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I considered posting this ironically in the 'Cute Critters' thread because it starts talking about shark attacks (there was a fatal one on (or rather, off) a Sydney beach last week), but there's so much more here, 40 minutes of thoughtful conversation about several subjects. The two people talk a little about themselves, almost in passing, but by way of background, Julia Baird is an author and journalist, was working at the NYT and one of those present in 2015 at the first in-house discussion the paper's staff had with a now-prominent politician, her father was a state and federal politician and her brother a premier of NSW, and Darren Saunders, as is mentioned in the program, is a science academic and now deputy chief scientist of NSW.
TonyDown Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Back when I was a boy in the Midwest, AM radio meant something more than it does now. One of our local stations went clear channel late at night, playing country music, coast to coast, all night long. Whenever I heard the sound of distant thunder rumble across the prairie, or noticed a faint flash of lightning in the darkness, I would tune in and wait for the station break for weather reports. I was into tracking weather, not so much the country music. But the old time country music radio was interesting. + azdr0710 and + Charlie 1 1

That might be reasonable for the Wagyu, even though a third of that weight could be the bone. I've paid $150 for an 8-oz Wagyu filet, so $345 for at least 24-oz doesn't seem to bad at all. SaintV Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago A bit random, but I'm going with the theme here. I was driving down a road I have not been on in a long time. I used to go down this road riding the school bus. I drove past a house that it used to stop at and remembered one of the kids that road the bus. Let's just say his name was Allen. I haven't thought about Allen or spoke to Allen in years. He was kind of in a different age group and not like one of my best friends or anything. But I knew him. I wondered what Allen was up to these days. I got to where I was going and looked at my phone. I pulled up Facebook and Allen was the very first person on my recommended friend list. All this happened within fifteen minutes. I have never spoken about Allen or tried to find him on FB. Again, the only reason I remembered Allen was because I drove past his childhood home. I believe in coincidence. But this was a little scary. Seriously, it's been about twenty years since I have seen or thought about this person. + Charlie and + Vegas_Millennial 1 1

I want to learn that "Allen" is the recipient of amassed wealth, spends all of his waking hours exercising in his vast home gym in that said home, has the body of an Adonis, but zero social skills due to his obsession with his amazing looking body. You become the first person he's interacted with since his school days, when he was but a scrawny kid that was merely lucky there were scrawnier kids to be picked on. + Charlie 1
