I would suggest car parts you think you might need in the future, clothing, and I guess everything you get from China.

I did a large shopping spree a few weeks ago to make sure I had exactly one backup of every liquid household product, and two backups for paper products.  That should last me for several months.

I've been avoiding products made in China ever since a boyfriend of mine, a graduate of Columbia, insisted we never shop at Walmart in order to avoid products made in China and other countries abusing child and slave labor.  At the time I thought he was overreacting; but, now I see his point.

Walmart itself is a business to avoid. TERRIBLE human resource policies (including pushing its drivers to work more 12 hour days..causing some horrific highway accidents) Not to mention, their well known policy of selling products at below cost to drive out local businesses and then raise their prices once they've closed every mom-n-pop in the area.

You don’t need to know the gory details about Walmart to know that it’s horrible; you just have to look at their workers’ faces.  When I used to shop there, I’d get kinda depressed because all the employees just looked so miserable.  I stopped going to Walmart mostly because their produce sucked, but the workers’ unhappiness probably weighed on me more than I realized.  When I switched to Trader Joe’s and Costco, I started to enjoy shopping again.  Their employees look happy to be there, which brightened up my day.  Sure as hell beats the Evil W depression factory.

There’s no Walmart in Madrid (thank gawd!) but there is Costco (it’s called Makro, and your US Costco card is good for entry).  I’m dying to go there ever since I saw a video of all the cool stuff they have, like a $1200 ham (food of the gods) and huge jars of gourmet olives.  Unfortunately, it’s way out in the ‘burbs and I’m carless.  But if I ever get a ride out there, I swear I’m cleaning the place out!

Wishing I would have bought a new fridge last year now.   Thought about buying a new Iphone (have a 13 now) but sounds like some electronics won't have tarrifs.

Grey Goose is my alcohol of choice and I know it will be hit with tarrifs but fortunately I live only 50 minutes from the canada border and have Nexus so if that goes up too much in price, I'll just buy it when I'm accross the border at Duty free or the Windsor costco (I like the Kirkland brand of french vodka) or the duty free shop in Paris

I’ve only been to a WalMart twice. Once in 2006 when my business partner and I arrived late to a Courtyard in Ocoee FL and found out that all the restaurants were closed. We picked up some “charcuterie” at WalMart. I was shocked to see semi-feral toddlers running around the store at 9:30 pm and was chagrined that a skeletal senior asked to see our receipt on the way out. Last time was with a boyfriend who wanted to buy some party favors for a spring equinox party. He was pissed that I read a book in the car while he shopped. I suppose I’m just a snob.

I’ve bought a new TV, MacBook, iPhone and Apple Watch. Too bad I didn’t know iPhones were going to be exempted from the most onerous tariffs. Oh well.

I didn’t need a new laptop but Apple decided to stop supporting my OS, so a perfectly working computer will now go into a landfill. Criminal.

I visited Walmart yesterday.

Stocked up on the usual basics.

TP, tissues, toothpaste, vinegar, mouthwash, chips, crackers, soup, floss, bleach, etc etc

They had everything on my list. I'd been concerned whether they'd run out of anything.  But no.  Situation normal, at least locally.

My Ford needed a module from Taiwan during the Covid supply chain mess.  Waited 6+ months while my car sat at the repair lot.  I worry about a similar scenario coming, although auto parts might get a reprieve from the tariffs.

Laptop is a good idea.
