They already started. Every news outlet refers to Thompson as a "loving husband and father" when he's really a drunken adulterer with a DUI conviction who separated from his wife 5 years ago and hasn't lived with his family in 3 years. The only reason he didn't get divorced was because he didn't want to jeopardize his job.

So, the CEO's "imaginary family" is still doing its job of making him look better than he really was.

I think so many people cheered about this because the wealth gap in this nation has become so nauseating (even more so than ever) and it is maddening to see how much some people make and waste.  Perhaps that is why these wealthy people may be facing the start of an epidemic:

I know it's morally and legally wrong, but considering that I've had to decide which tests to get that my doctor wants me to have and which specialist to see that he recommends because I can't afford all the copays (the first thing they teach in medical school is "assume all your patients are upper middle class so you never have to waste any time bothering to ask if they can afford what you are going to recommend") it's hard for me to have any reaction other than "my heart bleeds..." 

And don't even get me started on the term "pain management", which is Latin for "suck it up and learn to live with it unless you can sell a kidney to afford physical therapy".

Don't worry that you aren't getting all the tests.  If you can't afford the copay for the tests, then you most certainly won't be able to afford the treatment anyway.  Just be thankful you haven't been gunned down on the sidewalk in front of where you work.  No amount of copays can bring Brian Thompson back to life.

Just because the epidemic ended doesn’t mean people are not still getting sick and dying of COVID. Some are more susceptible to dying because of age or underlying conditions. So don’t scoff at people who want to protect themselves. You don’t know what they are experiencing.

Just last week I read the obituary of an illustrious Canadian who died of complications arising from COVID. He was wealthy and in his 80’s. He would probably have been the most surprised to die that way and at this time. 
 

I have known two people who acquired COVID in the last several months. The pandemic, not epidemic, has ended but the virus lives on.

Thanks for sharing.  This is certainly a bit of welcome good news for the employees of this company.  It looks like they have been offered remote work for the time being, until things calm down around their company headquarters.

The anticipated record financials could not come at a worse time, imo, as it will highlight the profits, if not profiteering going on in the health insurance industry. It will draw attention to how this money is being made and who profits from it.

Maybe it will inspire some volunteers to create a not-for-profit insurance company.  Their success will force existing companies to compete on service as well as price.  🥳 Depending on the model, the not-for-profit insurance industry may even hire away some top CEOs.  It's too bad that not-for-profit organizations, like churches, government, and schools, aren't exempt from terrorist targeted killings either 😢

The not-for-profit health care insurance model already exists in all G7 countries apart from the USA. It’s called Medicare for all. No need to reinvent the wheel.

100% agree!

One of my uncles contracted COVID at his care home in September and was hospitalized for a month.  Other than slight age-related memory loss he's in remarkable condition for his late 80s.  He had to be put in an induced coma and was placed on a ventilator for several days, so we all thought this was the end. 

Thankfully he rebounded during week 2, and it was another 2 weeks before he had the strength to walk safely and be released.  My cousin told me he had not gotten his latest booster because he was getting over the flu when it was due, so he was not as protected as he normally would have been.

COVID can still be a killer, even if it is claiming fewer victims since the development of vaccines.

Do you realize how many old people die from influenza and other respiratory conditions? We all die from something. If you read the data correctly. Covid is only a contributing factor to the NORMAL death rate of the planet. People die.

I rarely watch films but was killing time in a hotel room this week and watched The Sugarland Express, Steven Spielberg's first directorial movie effort. It depicts a real life  story of a young outlaw couple fighting to get their child back from foster adoption. It apparently launched Goldie Hawn's career.

Anyway they become instant folk heroes as they are being chased by police all over Texas. Something similar is going on here.

Gentlemen, thanks to some dedicated research by members, it became clear that a link to a GoFundMe page about a Brian Thompson was not about the CEO but an Air Force veteran who had died some years ago. In retrospect, the link didn't say that it was him, but it left an opening for readers to infer as much, incorrectly.

We have removed the link and the subsequent commentary that, as it turned out, unfairly maligned the CEO's family for something they hadn't done.

Our thanks to the members who identified the discrepancy and those who commended them for doing so.
