Nodakman Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Looking for advice from the group or experiences on how you handled flying a provider to you… Do you book and pay for the ticket ahead of time for them or do you have them by the ticket and reimburse them? How have you handled the money transaction? Do you reimburse them before they get to you?
DznNYC Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 I have been flown in as a provider. He purchased the flight for me. He reimbursed my travel expenses - Ubers, airport meals - in addition to the agreed upon rate. I would not have fronted airfare on my own, simply on faith it would be reimbursed. liubit 1
+ Pensant Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 I always buy their tickets for them. Ofc, it is for those whom I’ve met before, since they need to share their full name and DOB. Only been ghosted once, but it was in 2020 and American graciously restored my points! + FrankR and MikeBiDude 1 1
+ BenjaminNicholas Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 The answer depends on the trust level you have with the guy you're seeing. There's a leap of faith that both sides have to take to make these initial meets work successfully. You either electronically send the guy money in the amount of his stated airfare (up front) or he sends you his legal name and you book the ticket for him. While It's rare I'm seeing a lot of unknown guys, I would only travel to/for someone new if they sent an airfare deposit as a pledge of good faith. MikeBiDude and 56harrisond 2
nate_sf Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 I prefer to buy my the tickets myself and get reimbursed. Sometimes the client sends the reimbursement in advance, other times I receive it when we meet. I've never had a problem getting reimbursed. As @BenjaminNicholas mentions, it's a leap of faith from both sides. It's worked for me just fine. thomas, + Vegas_Millennial and 56harrisond 3
Act25 Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 I've done it twice. The first time was with someone I had met before, and I got the ticket using miles - he ended up being a "no-show" and I redeposited the miles into my account. The second time (with a different provider) I sent him an agreed upon amount for him to get his own ticket. A leap of faith for both of us as we had decided to get together for a week after one long phone call. I would never recommend doing it that way to anybody else, but it worked out perfectly. + DrownedBoy Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 I only did it once, and I did buy the tickets myself. The problem - he insisted on getting more expensive tickets on a more expensive plane when he could have come cheaper. That's why I won't do it anymore. + Pensant 1

Have your friend buy his own ticket. TorontoDrew and BonVivant 1 1

I rarely fly for new clients. Too risky. For trusted regulars, I buy my own tickets, pay my own expenses, and summarize my costs for the client to then reimburse me at the end of the trip in addition to my fee. This works out best for everyone. BonVivant 1
big-n-tall Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 (edited) Over the years I've flown in a number of providers. A good portion of them were first time hires. (Now they are regulars.) I usually give the choice of either buying the tickets or reimbursing the money after they have bought the ticket. The caveat of buying the ticket for the provider, I usually must know their real name and birthday to book the flights. The vast majority of the guys I've flown in have been ok with me getting the tickets and knowing their personal info. Not everyone is ok with this though. They prefer to buy the ticket themselves. In this case, they'll usually show me a screenshot of the itinerary and want me to cash app them ahead of time or add the flight costs to their rate. Currently there is only one guy I bring in on occasion, who wants to buy his on tickets. Of all the times I brought someone in, only once was I screwed over and no showed by the provider after paying ahead of time for the flights. Edited November 17, 2024 by big-n-tall

+ Summerson Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 (edited) I did this for the first time when I invited Bode to join us for the Palm Springs weekend last April. He researched the flights that worked best for him and let me know the cost. I sent him the money and he booked his flights using his own credit card. I wouldn't enter this kind of arrangement with someone I didn't trust, but then I wouldn't be hiring someone I didn't trust either. I think it worked for us because I'm usually pretty reachable via my phone and if the price had suddenly increased, he could have let me know he needed additional funds. That wasn't the case and the entire trip went smoothly. I can certainly understand people needing/wanting to do things differently, but keeping it simple worked well for us.
