I've primarily been a top and have only bottomed a few times without ever using a douche or enema. It’s always been clean, with no accidents. Today, I met someone who mentioned that he always douches before bottoming. I was curious—what’s considered the norm out there?

I would think and hope if you're gonna fuck bareback then please douche. If it's gonna be condom and you don't think you need to then make sure the top knows just so it's not a total surprise if he sees a little brown.

there are three choices and a "submit vote" box right at the top!

Thanks. I don’t see the submit vote box. Am I not allowed to vote because I’m still considered a newbie? The hand icon feels like a scarlet letter.

Correct, Newbies can't post a poll or vote in them.

I've played around with fiber intake, supplements, timing of eating, what I eat etc. and I still can't imagine not douching. I'm careful not to douche too deeply which can create a mess itself but I envy those who apparently don't need to at all. The physician who casts himself as the gay anal sex expert has said that douching shouldn't be necessary when other factors are attended to but I still don't see how that can be achieved.

As @pubic_assistance stated, it is quite a fact that in my 40+ yers of being 90% of the times a bottom until 20+ years ago I never douched, and little accidents happened very rarely, even if I was always quite self conscious he could happen and it would bother me if it would. But it was just water and soap, and a finger inside to "clear the path" as much as possible.

Now for me it's unthinkable not to prep if I know I am going to get pounded. I want to be squeaky clean and sometimes (depending on my previous diet, I guess..) it's quite difficult to be. It has happened a couple of times that I had to decline the appointment or the pounding knowing that even if I had tried hard to be clean, fucking would have created a mess...

A few years ago I went for a massage in NYC (I didn't douche as I was not expecting anything) and the chemistry with this hot Australian masseur was so high that we started to play intensely until he slipped a condom and "begged" me to fuck me. I told him I had not prepped and he told me he didn't mind at all, and I was so proud of myself at the end to see the condom immaculate 😎. Alas, that masseur whom I saw another couple of times (prepping before 😜) disappeared from masseurfinder....

As I aged everyone wanted ME to top.

I'm so out of practice at this point I would definitley want to get prepared...(if the right opportunity knocked)

Me, too! I'm really versatile but it seldom comes up when sex is on the table.  Once I entered my 40s the expectation was/is I will do all the fucking. And this includes all the allegedly "butch" "masculine" men. Hey! If men with sexy muscular asses are offering it up....

Yes I do…if it’s likely I’ll bottom. Sometimes I’ve taken a chance if he’s small and it won’t go far in 😂

I always enjoy bottoming for an endowed top but when the endowment exceeds 9 inches then we are talking about breaching the territory beyond the second ring or hole, as that sphincter is referred to in anatomical terms.

A cursory douching or even an extended one will not necessarily address possible fecal matter lurking behind that “wall” so to speak or entrance to paradise as I think of it.

So tops who are in this category I think need to understand and accept that things might get a bit messy and not make the bottom feel bad about it.  After all as bottoms we are calling on our rear end to do double duty in life. A little compassion goes a long way in making for a mutually pleasurable experience.

Ooh-wee! You be taking the MONSTER dicks! When it comes to them anacondas, all that deep plunging and thrusting is bound to shake something loose in the intestinal tract. It's hot to read about such deep probing in gay jerk-off fiction but I suppose in real life there's the risk of going where no enema has gone before....

I should add that I have met both types of tops who are well endowed. Those that understand they may cause because of their size some unexpected consequences and those that seem to think it’s the bottom’s fault and spoil the moment.

I’d also like to note that it tends to be these same tops who exhibit impatience if you need a moment to adjust to their size, as if they’re somehow doing you a favor.

Alex Hall "The Bottom's Digest" warns about douching with too large of a volume of water in each iteration.  You can trigger the upper part of the G.I. Tract to send more waste downstream if you douche with too much volume and the water goes beyond the rectum into the Sigmoid Colon.

He has A LOT more to say about douching and preparing to bottom.  His YouTube channel is also pretty entertaining.
