Matthew Perry dies - drowning the given cause

I never watched an episode of "Friends", either - yet it seems like a know every cast member from all the press they have gotten over the past 30 years.  On another forum, there is a discussion about him having a bad heart due to his years of substance abuse and being treated for hypertension over the past thirty years - and anyone with any heart problems or hypertension at all (no matter how minor)  should not be in a Jacuzzi , sitting in hot water (this could bring on a heart attack ?).  I never heard of this before - anyone here know about this ?

Drowned in his hot tub.  If no drugs were involved, maybe his heart gave out after abusing himself for so many years.  He was a good-looking man in his prime, as was his dad.

Respectfully his real dad, or someone with a the same last name?

Matthew Perry's mother was better known to us Canadians as she was a well respected journalist in Canada and Pierre Trudeau's press secretary.

Justin Trudeau went to school with Matthew, who grew up in Ottawa, and has offered his condolences. Perry was always appreciated for not forgetting his roots when he became rich and famous.

Imagine earning $1million an episode on Friends! He and his fellow actors were the first to pull in that kind of money on a TV sitcom.

For those who remember back in the 70s and 80s, his biological dad was well known as the actor / model for Old Spice commercials back then. He played a cowboy in most of the commercials (I completely forgot them until someone on another forum linked to them). His dad was in his late 30s / early 40s when they were made - very handsome, rugged man. Now in his early 80s, he is still handsome (MP posted a picture of them together two weeks ago on IG when he was visiting his dad).

Let’s be honest. Given the fact that he’s been in rehab about 15 times, one way or another drugs were involved.

Isn't this the same way Whitney Houston went?  So sad no matter what the actual cause.  Such talented people who leave us way too young.  RIP

Most recent medical news says no "drugs" found in his system. Heavy user in the past, yes. But he did his best trying to get clean himself and help others get clean as well. Addiction is a bitch. If you haven't been there, that's great for you. But no one but a user knows how bloody hard it is to get clean, and even harder to stay clean, day after day after day. Not asking for pity from the non users among us. Hope you are and stay that way forever. The addicts among us know the hell he went through.

It's ironic that he said in his book - and said in interviews a year ago - that when he died, he wanted to be remembered for the good he did helping people, not for the TV show "Friends".  His run on 'Friends' is NOT how he preferred to be remembered, as his work with addicts was so much more important to him. Unfortunately, the media didn't follow his wishes - his career on 'Friends' has been the lead in to all his obituaries, while his helping others with addictions has been a mention later on.  It's too bad - he was much more than just an actor on a 90s TV show.
