The Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Dallas-led North Texas Trafficking Task Force announced the arrests of 134 individuals for the purchase of sex.

This just popped up on my news feed.  It will be interesting to see who all was arrested once the names are released.  I’m sure there will be follow-up stories to this one.  Tread carefully in Texas.

From a previous raid in April sounds like just one more highway motel set up for straight guys looking for a quicky for $50 from a young girl out of the dark web. This used to happen a lot on craigslist before they got rid of personal.

Thanks for the heads up but I doubt any of this men were looking for gay sex on Rentmen.

I think we had another thread about this when Texas passed the statute that treats solicitation at a felony.  While it seems the recent sting operations focused mostly on heterosexual male clients, there's nothing that prevents them from targeting gay clients in the future.  An ambitious DA or sheriff with plans to run for higher office would just see gay clients as yet another unsympathetic demographic they can use for easy convictions.

If hiring in Texas, I'd stay with ads on RM for well established providers and avoid any ads that are very new with no reviews.   I'd definitely avoid A4A or Backpage type sites.

Adding that these sting operations do little to actually go after the trafficking rings the law was supposed to be addressing, or to rescue any victims of those criminals.

That is correct. To me that's definitely public relations and/or political theater. I also agree that those being the main force behind those "raids", gay men can also be at risk.

Avoid Texas! It's so silly they list their professions. People who had access to "secure areas of an airport" come on now. We're not talking about people being arrested for terrorism.

If they were arresting people actually engaged in or facilitating trafficking, it would make sense to highlight if one had access to "secure areas" at the airport, since they could theoretically help bypass TSA screening.  But that term includes just about everyone who can go airside or in the office areas. But they hiring guys responding to an ad or profile, so it's moot anyway.

If any of us were arrested for pursuing commercial  sex, I don't think we'd want our picture spread across the internet. That makes me wonder why the pictures are posted here. It's totally unnecessary, and, I think, a disservice to men who hire.

Great point. I'd call that "John shaming", not necessary to having them published, leave alone making comments about how they look. Totally unnecessary, and they are no different than many of us here.

I removed the picture not that you politely me asked me to do it...

I simply searched about previous sex sting operations in Dallas and pictures like that appeared.

What a dashing group!

I guarantee you most clients who hire male escorts don't look as good as those guys and aren't as young either

Those were straight men looking for women. These sex sting operations won't affect us.

Putting their picture on the web is a form of the Scarlet Letter.  Public shame as a way to discourage others.

I'm not saying it's right, but it's been the norm when it comes to things like 'sex crimes.'  Note my use of air quotes.

Like others here have said, it's also well-timed to usually coincide with a conservative re-election.

I don't know about recently, but police raids on (straight) saunas in Brazil were frequently followed the next day by pictures in the paper of a bunch of middle-aged men in towels being arrested.  The unspoken message to other saunas was to keep up their payment to local police officials in order to avoid the same fate.  Not saying that is the same situation as we currently see in Texas...which is a sting.

This was a federal operation of Homeland Security. Their announcement seems gleeful that Texas is the first state to make hiring a felony, but it's Homeland Security going after hiring for sex. SESTA charges coming?  Once it becomes federal it's a whole different ballgame.

In the CBP cases the agents told people they were face-recognized on Rentmen, an "international sex trafficking site" the federal government was "monitoring closely".

Just as with SESTA, in election years like 2024, both government parties will compete to get further to the right on hiring. Be cautious.

One more time... this has nothing to do with RM.... if you click on the link posted by the OP you'll see they were straight men on Craigslist nowadays equivalent looking for cheap pussy at a highway motel.

Truckers historically have referred to them as "lot lizards" 🦎 😂 And being put on blast via the internet or the local newspaper is nothing new.

Gas stations and highway motels are also usually the places where young girls trafficked are pimped or sold out to a new pimp in another market. Also cops know not to mess with high end prostitution.

Just because they didn't target gay clients this time doesn't mean they won't on the next sting.  The Sheriff in Polk county, Fl has done similar stings and used both female and male lures.

The only thing that seems to prevent these cop stings from using RM to lure in clients is the extra hoops that RM has in place for an escort ad to go live.  That isn't an absolute guarantee they won't try it in the future, though.  Sites like mintboys are less restrictive and the ads should be considered more risky in general.

It's possible but not probable. It would be a waste of time, resources, and money to set up male to male sting operations compared to the amount of people they can nab literally all day and night in the heterosexual world of pandering.

*also noteworthy is the fact that RM being based in the Netherlands plays into all our favor.
