CANADIAN WILDFIRES

Not sure how many of you live in the Northeastern US, and how many are dealing with the spread of smoke from the Canadian Wildfires.

But I wanted to share a little observation from today: I'm in NYC and the smoke is fairly dense here.  So warnings have been broadcast about being outside. Particularly for "at risk" groups ( Elderly, young children, asthmatics).

I'm 52 and in good shape, so I figured I wouldn't so much be affected by the smokey air that I couldn't be outside at all. I walked down to SOHO this morning and back (about 15 minutes both ways), and I have to say I am definitely feeling it in my lungs !

So just wanted to share that with anyone who's experiencing the smoke in their location, that you should take the warnings seriously. It's definitely not easy to breathe out there. Even for healthy people. It's not just a warning for "at risk" groups.

Be safe.

The Yankee game is likely to be canceled! Last night it was like watching ghosts play there was such a haze.

A couple MLB games have been postponed and some other sporting games as well:

Major League Baseball has announced it is postponing games in New York and Philadelphia on Wednesday night because of poor air quality caused by smoke...

It’s bad here in Eastern Ontario and most of the smoke is coming from Quebec although we have one large fire in cottage country less than 100 kms away. I stayed in most of the day and when outside to go shopping wore a mask except in the car and the store. Have closed all my windows but the house is cool anyway with outside temp at 16 C. Even turned the furnace back on to take off the chill.

Was in Montreal yesterday and the day before for a date with an escort and walking to and from the restaurants for dinner and breakfast noticed the bad air and dark skies. Had lunch indoors on Monday as the restaurant terrace did not look inviting. Cancelled a trip to Ottawa today because the smoke was worse there.

This is definitely going to impact the economy as well as our health if this persists and summer has not even started yet. We are having an unusually dry spring and the lawns are turning brown. Looks like July. Being forced to remain indoors when this is our short season to enjoy the outdoors is disappointing and really sucks.

My escort friend is leaving for Barcelona and Sitges this evening. Wish I was going with him.

Did you mean to write 16 F ? I hope it is 16 C.

Yes, it's serious, there are long term effects from particulate inhalation, even for healthy people, and short term effects aren't limited to those at risk. We lived through the same thing in the summer of 19/20, Canberra having the worst air quality in the world at times. I had orange skies and the smell of smoke in the air in New Zealand.

The air quality index in Philly was raised to hazardous. I took the day off to go house hunting with neighbors. We're driving down from NYC this morning. From frying pan into the fire....This house in Washington Square (Philly, that is) better be worth it.

When Kathy Hochul was giving a speech last week about staying inside and wearing a mask she said it was just temporary and not to worry that we were going back to covid times. But here's the thing for all the anti maskers. This time you actually could do whatever you want. Because the choice to wear a mask or not affects you alone! If people wanted to be one of those dummies I saw out there with no mask overexerting themselves exercising during the height of the bad air quality go for it. 😅
