I don't see what's inconsistent about my disliking someone and stating my opinion that I'd like to see him in jail. When I first saw the TIME story, I was outraged that there appeared to be a repeat of his mother's extremely dangerous drunken rampage through the streets of Paris. As it turned out, the story was BS. However, I fail to see any contradiction in proclaiming dislike for someone and wanting to see their ass thrown in jail and/or deported. I can't see in his Wikipedia page that he's taken on US citizenship as of this time. Edited May 30, 2023 by Unicorn

Ginge & Whinge got their Netflix & book deals, but I wonder if they'll get any more megabucks offers because they grow more insufferable by the day. As much as Oprah and the rest of the professional victim set will try to pump them up (there is no chic like victim chic), hopefully they'll just end up as a couple of toxic nobodies. Perhaps they can hook up with Greta Thunberg and form a Toxic Zeroes support group. pubic_assistance 1

I don't like them, they're entitled and whining about how tough life is but I don't hate them the way you seem to know them personally... One more thing.... why constantly repeating "cult of victimhood" about them, Matthew Sheppard, athletes, etc.? Edited May 31, 2023 by marylander1940

I hope their fame will be over soon, a reality TV show might be their only alternative and at the same time will lower their status as former royals to a point of no return. pubic_assistance 1

Had the story been true, these two would have been a public menace, a danger to potential innocent bystanders. That type of behavior simply should not be tolerated. I don't want to get run over by some a-hole just because he doesn't want his photo taken. Canada and the US bar each others' citizens from visiting their countries even if there's even a years' old DUI conviction on the books. This would have been far worse (had it been true).

Just as some wonder why all the attention on Ginge & Whinge, one could also ask why some are so obsessed with quashing all discussion of the couple. Look, while I am utterly baffled that anyone would watch The Kardashians (or any reality TV for that matter), I'm not going to launch into diatribes or berate people for doing so. It makes more sense to me to criticize the former royals (malignant narcissists, professional victims, private jet climate activists) than it does to get all bent out of shape that people criticize the former royals. Well, if he thought the US was one of his "realms," he should think again. I thought spouses of US citizens had special dispensation, but maybe not. I'd be guessing, but I think he has the right to live in any of the King's realms that he chooses. Maybe someone who knows better than I do on this matter can confirm or correct me if I'm wrong. Of all of King Charles's realms, I personally would most enjoy living in Australia, probably Melbourne (maybe wintering in Cairns or Brisbane?). His drug use history doesn't bother me--but his attitude that it's OK to put others' lives at risk because he doesn't want to have his photos taken when in public does.

It doesn't bother me at all either, but we all hate his entitled way to see the world while whining about how unfairly he's been treated. I've known cases of married men with a green card who got deported because of a DUI. Hopefully laws will be applied to him the way it happens to all of us but I doubt it. I think you'd enjoy more living Rio 😁

As far as Harry and Meghan, I just wish they would stay AWAY from everyone and SHUT T. F. UP. What makes Vancouver livable is based on a number of social indices, as I understand it. Canada generally ranks high on many of these factors such as level of education, health care and longevity, social services, levels of social equality, crime, income disparity and so on. Vancouver is Canada’s third largest city and enjoys a vibrant economy, a clean city environment and a gorgeous setting. The damn Rockies mean that it is a essentially a rain forest because the prevailing winds off the Pacific dump their moisture on the windward side of the mountain ranges. Hence the damp climate. Victoria, the capital of the province, is located on Vancouver Island, west of Vancouver, and those rain clouds pass overhead before releasing their moisture on Vancouver. But Victoria is rather dull, like the Queen she was named after. pubic_assistance and CuriousByNature 1 1

But they knew that in Vancouver they would have had a much dimmer spotlight, as it would be anywhere in Canada or the Commonwealth. They need to be in the US, and the US needs them there. It is a co-dependent relationship - many Americans look at 'royals' as something familiar, yet foreign. Like a stuffed dodo bird you keep under a glass dome on your mantle. It attracts a lot of attention. And the 'royals' need the cult of celebrity that doesn't exist to the same degree north of the border. They could have blended in quite well here in Canada over time, IF that had really been what they wanted. But their actions have shown that was never likely part of their plan. They annoy me, but I do hope they find happiness and satisfaction in the life they have chosen - not everyone gets to choose what their life will be like, and theirs remains far more privileged than 99% of the population. But deep down I expect there is a lot of regret and too much pride to admit it.

I don't recall ever smelling the smoke from wildfires when I lived there, but my relatives that still live around Vancouver tell me that every summer for the past few years there are periods of smoky and hazy weather caused by the fires in the interior of the province. And yes, despite the advantages of universal healthcare and not going bankrupt to get treatment, the healthcare situation is pretty dismal across the country from what I have seen. People dying as they wait more than an hour for an ambulance, very long wait lists for treatments and specialists, and hardly a family doctor to be found that is taking new patients.

The joke in my family used to be that if you live in Vancouver and have difficulties falling asleep, just move to Victoria. While the setting is quite beautiful in Vancouver and much of BC, there are many beautiful cities around the world. And Vancouver is itself boring compared to the likes of London, Paris, or even Toronto. Living there for several years was pretty benign - nothing to get excited over, like a lukewarm bath. I was happy to move away from Vancouver and keep it as a place to visit periodically.
wsc Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 (edited) Didn't they already try the Vancouver area after they first left the UK? And after whatever time there, they moved to California, I suspect because the M part of H&M wasn't getting enough starshine to suit her needs, so off to a more Tinseltown-adjacent venue. On another point, except for the King -he being the constitutionally designated Head of State for the Dominion of Canada [also the only one in the UK who doesn't need a Passport]- I don't think being a British royal or a peer of the realm (duke, earl, etc.) confers any sort of immigration or residency rights for Canada or any of the other dozen or so Commonwealth Realms, such as Australia, New Zealand, etc. Edited June 3, 2023 by wsc mike carey and Luv2play 2
Luv2play Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 They rented a place in Vancouver for their brief stay. The governmet wouldn't provide ling term security detail at government expense which would have cost millions. Harry also had the same issue in the UK where he was refused government security after he stepped away from royal duties. In many ways he has a free loading mentality like many if the lesser royals.
