And you are the VERY DEFINITION of taking something out of context! They 'had it coming' means 'they knew what they were getting into.'

Did they now? They could see into the soul of every man who visited the mansion and learn by intuition what depravity he might be capable of...

Please, enough of the gender studies theory.  I keep asking you what exactly prevented these women from saying "no" or "stop" and then leaving.  Your refusal to respond to that question indicates that you don't like the answer.

P A T R I A R C H Y

You are clearly deaf to it. It’s not “just” gender studies. It’s reality for women. You’re inability to understand that only highlights the severity of the reality.

Read a book on the inherent nature of power structures in patriarchy. It’s imbedded. It’s not as simple as “saying no.” The fact that it’s not that simple for women is a facet of P A T R I A R C H Y.

More gender studies propaganda ... since you refuse to answer what exactly prevented these women from saying "no" or "stop" and then leaving, I will answer it for you:  nothing, absolutely nothing.

Just because some wokety-woke gender studies professor tells you that you're a victim, that doesn't mean you are one.  If a creepy geriatric is telling you to do something you don't want to do, say NO, get dressed, and leave.  And just like that, you cease to be a victim.  All the centuries of power structures and patriarchy vanish the moment you take responsibility for your life and your decisions.  It's that simple.

The article says the doctor was accused of having sexual relationships and doing illegal drugs with with women patients.

So I guess it happened to Hef too? Sexual misconduct by a physician has never been so hilarious.

As much as some may not like it, discussion about patriarchy is very much “on topic” when discussing the mistreatment of women in the Playboy mansion – both as it plays out in the mansion, in society on the whole, and in this forum. 🤷🏼‍♂️

reclaiming manhood is also the reason of some of the meanest posts on here. Is nice to some knowing they're no longer on the bottom of the social pyramid.

agreed.... when it comes to the point of a member calling another member "dumb" because of a disagreement, the thread has outlived its purpose

Is a defensive mechanism that empowers the name caller in his mind. Ignorant was also used here, cognitive problems is constantly used by another poster.

I guess going to a photoshoot and getting undressed means willingness to get raped?

one more thing "erotic pictures" are not pornography.

That’s the imbedded patriarchy. Much like imbedded racism. “At least I’m not *that* bad.”

Saying the girls could just say “no” and leaves underlines a lot about whoever says it. It underlines that whoever says that values their independence. They also will likely do whatever it takes to defend it. Even if it gets ugly. They also likely feel pressed down upon by certain systems that makes them feel as if they in fact don’t have whole independence over their own lives and thus overcompensate by blaming others when they appear to have lost a similar independence.

You can be assured that Hefner had lawyers ready to protect himself if the girls who came to live with him did anything they weren’t supposed to according to the “expectations” set out at the beginning. The fact that the girls didn’t have that is yet another example of how they were in a lesser position on the power play than Hefner. Hefner had expectations of what was acceptable and we can be assured he made them clear before anyone stayed there. I can reassure you “sex rituals” would not be part of what the girls were told to expect. Add to that the whole host of legal issues *if* the girls left and/or said something because they went against the rich and famous. That’s what is meant by patriarchy.

Even still. That doesn’t excuse weird sex rituals, for instance. I believe you can do certain things that bring with them a certain set of expectations. But there are things that can happen that shouldn’t and you shouldn’t accept them, nor should we, if they shouldn’t. To be completely frank, I thought Hefner was better than that, but because it’s a sex house, I’m not surprised it happened. Precisely because I did think better of him, I didn’t expect it to happen. When I hear it did, in a place it’s likelier than, say, on the set of The Bachelorette, I believe that it happened until otherwise proven it didn’t. Just because it could happen doesn’t mean we expect it to. Nor does it happening because of a higher likelihood make it something we accept because it could happen. And the fact that centuries of power structures are in place to enable men to do this kind of stuff to women without serious repercussions (i.e. they should just say “no” or leave) also doesn’t excuse it. It only serves to show just how insidiously intracted in our lives this is. The question is whose side you’re going to take – the victim’s or the culprit’s.

There was a remark above about being a victim. It’s worth noting that no one wants to be a victim and some people will deny a serious problem exists simply to avoid the shame of victimhood. The responses of many a man like “you should’ve said ‘no’ if it was so bad” just highlights the shame that’s attached to being a victim. You don’t want that shame, you don’t want to be the victim of that either, so you keep quiet. Again – a facet of the system to keep itself going.

To be raped according to some in this forum, right?

With giving up the right to consent in the contract? I have a feeling some people are just jealous of all the attention and desire these women got..

And the thing is…the nature of rape is that you feel or you actually can’t just say no or leave. That’s what makes it rape…

"Centuries of power structures, patriarchy" ... it's all so vague.  What exactly prevented these women from saying NO & leaving?

A housemate in college was raped.  She didn't just "feel" she couldn't say no; the rapist held a knife to her throat.  The sex slave I mentioned upthread didn't just "feel" she couldn't leave.  Her violent pimp threatened to go back to the old neighborhood & kill her family.

I keep asking time & again what exactly prevented Hefner's "girlfriends" from leaving.  Coercion need not be as violent as a knife to the throat or a death threat.  Yes, Hefner had far more money & power than these women.  Yes, he legally protected himself with pricey lawyers.  While those factors put Hefner at an advantage, they fall far short of kidnapping or imprisonment.  Rape & sex slavery are serious charges.  If these women are going to make those allegations, they should back it up with something more than a vague "feeling" or a copy & paste from a gender studies reading assignment.

It's really moving the goalposts on the definition of rape to characterize prostitutes' regretting their decision to engage in prostitution as rape. Being talked into something is not the same as being coerced into it.

Wow. Who would have thought a thread about Hugh Hefner and the Playboy Club would stimulate such discussion here? Not me. I never had any interest in it or its patrons. Glad I didn't. I would have been shocked to learn it was just a rape hotel. Have I got that right?

Spain's Francisco Franco was right to have all the photos of naked women removed from the magazines in Madrid.
