This Buzzfeed post may be of interest to those who stay in hotels. #19 on the Buzzfeed list seems particularly relevant to those of us on this forum. I wonder if it applies to men in that line of work.

19. "We don’t bat an eye at sex work or whatever goes on in the rooms, as long as it doesn’t affect other guests. Half the women who come to the bar are working girls looking for a sale. The only thing that the hotel industry ever really reports is human trafficking. There are telltale signs, and if something doesn’t add up, we do report it to local authorities."

Number 22, regarding maids stealing, is something I tell people all the time. Maids aren't going to risk jail for a twenty laying around even in a casino hotel. Never once had any money I left in room "disappeared." I mark tips with a note under the cash so they know it's theirs and that is all they ever take. The problem now is I have remember to keep paper on hand because they have removed the pads due to the pandemic.

My preference has always been for hotels which don't require keycards for the elevators. It's much more seamless for the escort to come directly to your room that way without you having to go down and potentially attracting attention. Because of my age, it's very easy to pass of an escort as a friend or whatever but I could still do without that hassle.

Hotels: We’re not impressed by VIPs. We see them everyday.
‘Also hotels: Celebs leave their cars here and pick them up whenever they want.

Also, they buried the lede: Housekeepers narc, and hotels report whatever housekeeping turns up to police.

I stayed in a hotel a week ago and couldn’t find paper pads and a pen to leave a note with a tip. It was my first hotel stay since Feb 2020, and it didn’t even occur to me that the missing pad was a pandemic precaution. Thanks for mentioning this.

Great read! Number 27. I found my accommodations at at Marriott (platinum member) to be rather shabby to say the least and asked to change rooms. They told me the new room would be ready in a couple of hours and they would do the move. Having nothing to do I sat in the lobby and read. Checked with the desk a couple of times after the stated time and still no room. Having worked in many hotels in my life I was cool about it. Soon the manager called me over to the desk and apologized for it taking so long and said that my room was finally ready - they gave me the presidential suite for the rest of my stay! Being kind and relaxed really paid off.

very true about being polite and civil when complaining.....back in college, while working at a very nice local resort near school, the "nice" complainers got taken care of first and thoroughly......the new-money, loud, flashy types not so much......

not a hotel, but I was at DFW just a couple days ago waiting for a flight near an American customer service desk......admittedly I don't know the details, but a white-trash family was loudly demanding free clothes, hotel rooms, toiletries, the whole bit for whatever reason (luggage gone, cancelled flight??)......throwing around the usual tired cliches like "this is unacceptable!", "American Airlines is the worst airline"......it went on for several minutes and AA wasn't budging, it appeared.....I don't know how it resolved and don't know who was primarily at fault, but it reminded me to take the high road with a concern (professional, informed, understanding, respectful, polite)

I had a similar situation and got the royalty suite at the FS for one night. Beautiful room but it felt like a total waste to be there alone.

No problem. I always have pens on me so the no pens in the room wasn't an issue, but the missing pads were a problem. I know a lot of places removed almost anything that could be touched by multiple people like coffee makers. I haven't checked, but the bibles might be gone also. The TV remote has been in plastic bags also in some hotels.

Quincy, I agree with you but just thought I’d give you a tip as to how I handle this (and I let the escort know ahead of time):

When the escort arrives I come off the elevator with a hearty “Billy! So good to see you. How’s your mom? I can’t wait to see her again.” To me this implies he’s either an old friend or family such as your nephew. Remember, in theory anyway, if you’re in a hotel you’re more than likely a visitor to that city. Meeting up with friends and family is why you’re there.
Further, I really don’t think the desk cares who you’re meeting. I’ve stayed with friends in many, many hotels over the years and have never side-eyed or seen anyone side-eyed when they meet a guest at the elevator.

I did this with a Grindr hookup in Boston a couple years ago.  I was staying at Lowe’s and they have keycards.  We were texting each other as he walked to my hotel.  I went to the lobby when he arrived.  When I exited the elevator he was being questioned by a hotel employee.  I immediately said, “Hey Greg, what’s up cuz?” while we gave each other a hug, started a conversation with him and walked back into the elevator after thanking the employee for taking care of my cousin.  We both started laughing as soon as the elevator doors closed.  I’m sure hotel employees have seen it all and really don’t care who’s hooking up with whom, as long as no one is being assaulted or trafficked.

Yes, I stayed at a Marriott in ATL a couple of weeks ago and no pen/pad. I had a pen in my shave kit but no pad - had to tear off a piece of my Confirmation printout.

I worked at the Front Desk of a large moderately priced hotel chain back in the late 70s - Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians orchestra (anybody remember them?) stayed overnight. Guy was super friendly and graciously penned a note to my mom who was a fan. I'm guessing Guy was about 5'4" tall.

We didn't really care if you brought escorts into the hotel - I mean, who's going to go up to a guest and say "Are you a hooker?". The only sexual event I remember during my brief employment  was when the Security Guard caught two hot teenage boys who did odd jobs around the hotel  doing the "69" on a metal table in the basement laundry.  Of course, I pumped the Security Guard for all the details.

I'm unfortunately not a good enough actor to attempt that.

And yeah I've never gotten the impression that hotel staff care about guests but I only stay at big chains like holiday inn, novotel etc. when I travel. I can't speak to practices at the more niche hotels.

I was staying in a hotel with this hot escort and we needed more towels. I tipped him extra to go to the front desk in this.  He loved it. A tourist took an elevator pic with him, and the gay guy at the front desk put him in his Instagram story. Discretion isn’t all it’s cracked up to be LOL

I’m always relaxed about having company in an hotel. I find it very pleasurable to entertain a young man and have him service me before a good dinner in the hotel restaurant. And sometimes I take him down to have breakfast with me the next morning.

Staff in a good hotel have almost certainly “seen it all” before, and IME quite a number of hotel workers are gay.
