I’ve seen this story making it rounds on social media. If COVID does become endemic, I wonder how it will affect our massage-seeking and escort-seeking

And my apologies if someone already posted this and I missed it

I think this is a good topic for a separate thread even if it had been discussed elsewhere. It is part of a larger question. How do we live in general if COVID becomes part of cold and flu season? Besides decisions about where and how to work, social events, and public spaces - do we change hiring habits? To me this question is connected to vaccines and eventual herd immunity. I would be fairly comfortable living normally when the vaccination plan is fully deployed.

Covid is always gonna be around now true. But if we get enough people vaccinated if someone catches it most likely their symptoms will be of that of the common cold and shouldn't disrupt our lives much. The key to ending the pandemic is so people don't have to go the hospital and possibly die from this.

Yeah I think we already know the answer to this question to some degree because we already live through the flu every winter, although of course that is not as contagious. But I think we'll probably be wearing masks a lot more in general, taking a lot of at-home COVID tests, getting booster vaccines every year or every other year to deal with variants that pop up, but otherwise it won't be a big deal in my opinion.

I think with a little extra pre-planning, endemic COVID shouldn't be a big deal for this hobby. Especially now that we have widespread at-home COVID tests. You could self-isolate, test, wear a mask everywhere and hope your companion does the same (and you could probably at least have him take his own COVID test). That's kind of what I've been doing anyway the last few months with the only difference is that I go to the free testing provided by my work.

I'm not so sure of that. But I do imagine that treatment for COVID will continue to get better as time goes on, so that it will be much easier to manage, and no longer such a viable death sentence.

Herd immunity probably requires 75% vaccination and for covid, under 18's (20% of the population), are not approved for the vaccine. Add to that the fact almost a third of people do not want the vaccine and herd immunity is less a chance than continual flu-like yearly vaccines to protect the vaccinated against variants that will keep occurring.

Guys on Grindr are already advertising "vaccinated".

I’ve seen “covid negative,” “antibody positive,” and “vaccinated” in some providers’ profiles. I’m wary of relying on such self-reporting, but I wonder if asking providers to show proof of vaccination—and being asked by providers to do the same—could become a thing.

Orville I'm one of those over 70+ (actually 80) that you mention and I have not intention of letting covid hinder my hiring. I have already had my first vaccination and am scheduled for my second on the 26th of this month. I've hired once during this fucking pandemic already and am scheduled with two other guys in the near future. If I get covid and die because of my hiring SO BE IT! I developed callouses on my hand when I was a teenager I'll be damned if I'm going to do it again at my age. If I die, at least, I won't die horny and frustrated and at 80 I've already had, one hell of, a great life.

The "proof" would be those CDC cards they give you that can be copied or forged easily (although 2-sided). They're all over the internet. btw- I found you should keep a photo of yours on your cellphone plus if you lose yours or want a duplicate you can get one easily with the information by going to any pharmacy associated with the program that gave yours (Safeway/Albertsons keeps records for mine).

Some kid will make pot money snatching a handful of those cards and selling them lol.

How many of them actually are? I think it would be pretty hard for a younger escort to be vaccinated unless he also worked in health care or education or got really lucky getting a vaccine somehow. We're only at 11 percent of people in the US receiving one dose and less than 4 percent with both doses.

I noticed when I got my booster that there a few young guys now in line, maybe "healthcare workers". But even in DC they're about to expand the list a lot. And in some areas there are massive inoculation centers on a first-come-first-served stand in line basis.

Maybe one silver lining of the pandemic is it will for a while make "vaccinated daddies" more popular.

Maybe get some of these at-home test kits that give a result in a few minutes:

This could give you some peace of mind so that you have years more of your hobby??

The hope is also that with many vaccinated spread will decrease even though studies are not definitive on this topic as yet; presumably vaccinated people can fight the infection readily and thus have a much lower viral load at any point in time, and thus their droplets while technically contagious is not as effective in spreading. Then for those who are vaccinated fully and hire an escort who has not been, it's a little like catching flu from them pre-COVID which of course was always possible (though less likely since COVID is good at spreading while asymptomatic/pre-symptomatic than influenzae)

True that home test will be more available to help, but I doubt those anti-masker/anti-vaxxer who couldn't care less now will be spending money to buy the home test. My guess is that some of them will catch COVID and at least in the short term, contribute to herd immunity.

This.

It reminds me of guys who say they're on PrEP, but aren't. Lots of those sadly.

Same about guys who say they're HIV- and haven't been tested in years (or worse).

Perhaps sex workers should be prioritized for vaccinations. But then, lots of attractive young men might immediately start claiming that that they are "versatile escorts" when they are actually totally unavailable.

I remember the predictions that AIDS would bring an end to gay promiscuity. How did that work out?

Your frustration is understood and shared by a great many, but I implore you to reconsider risky behavior. Death from C19 is one of the ugliest imaginable.

The other category that younger people may qualify is essential workers such as grocery workers. A buddy of mine who's in his 20s was able to get a vaccination because he works at Trader Joe's.

I've seen guys advertising as having antibodies for a while now. I would not rely on self-reporting... I can imagine a guy saying he's sure he's had covid, and is sure he has antibodies but may not have confirmed either. Or if he's had covid and tested positive for antibodies, how long ago.

That said, I had covid back in April/May. Two weeks ago I went back to get tested for antibodies out of curiosity, and I still have them nine months later. So it's possible.

I'm vaccinated, generally healthy, and not going to live my life in fear. I'll see a provider, presuming they don't have any symptoms, and take the minimal risk. I wear a mask in public because it is required and it makes people feel better, not because I believe it is necessary or even helpful.

I'm fortunate that my job allows me weekly testing, and I have been consistently negative. I expect that if all goes according to plan, I should be able to get my first dose of the vaccine in the next month or so. My parents, both 79, just got their 2nd dose, and my hope is that I'll be able to see them safely again once the semester is over. I assume we'll all still be wearing masks, etc, but at least we'll still be able to meet.

I've been talking to a guy who's been wanting to hook up - if the weather isn't too bad tomorrow, we're going to try for it. It'll be the first hookup I've had since the pandemic started. We talked about wearing masks, etc. He's married with a kid, and I know he's being extra careful on his own turf - we're both being very aware of wanting to be as safe as we can for the other's sake. After everything we've all been through over the last 11 months, I'm feeling that I'm going into this as responsibly as possible. (Also, we're going to be doing fetish play like foot worship, etc, where we can be more distanced than the usual hookup). I'm looking forward to this!!

Interesting...grocery workers and other essential workers are on the next "phase" here in Colorado, which I think starts in March. I do know that different states have different things they are doing though.

I hire a local DC escort who gets tested every week... we always sends me a screenshot of his results with his name, date of test, result, etc.
