That wouldn’t be objectionable! This guy was from LA…I’m outside of Boston. That would a pricey Uber!

Hmm… when I was in my 20s, this hot Brazilian guy messaged me. I knew he was an escort but I replied to his message anyway. I didn’t get charged nor was a transaction ever discussed. He said he was just really horny and needed a good lay.

I have been following this thread and I have to say trying to remember what I considered reasonable rates 20 years ago is getting to be difficult. When Hooboys reviews were easy to consult at that time, the rates were usually posted.
In the early 2000s I often hired in the American market, NY, Miami, Ft Lauderdale and seem to recall $150 being the typical rate. By the mid 2000s maybe $200. It seemed to take a long time to get to $300. I think the financial crisis of 2008 had something to do with it and the great recession which followed.
Now $350 seems the norm altho $300 is still available for a quality experience. $400 is to me on the higher end.

Resorts are places where Americans (and sometimes Japanese) can go abroad but not have to engage with the local culture. I’m heading to a resort in Scotland with an escort at the end of April. We are looking forward to the resort, to be sure. It’s gorgeous. But we’ve already committed to do things off-resort, including driving about. The resort planners wanted to book us for “tours” (read: activities) on-resort, but we’re not really interested in that. I told him I want to go to a local restaurant every. One of the best things about traveling is sampling local cuisine. This is where you have to be savvy with looking up reviews online.
I was surprised how many folks who stay at this resort pay for tax or other ride services simply to avoid renting a car and driving on the opposite side of the road. That doesn’t bother me at all. And renting a car is much cheaper than ride services. Unless of course you’re going to spend the whole vacation on-resort.
Resort vacationing can be a lot of fun, but you have to know how to plan if you want a taste of the local way of life. And even then, you’re still a tourist.

I don't hire straight providers as a principle to keep the money in the community, but I've been reconsidering this stance. Not because I found one so hot I have to have them, most straight providers off with a Fabio vibe that I find quite off-putting, at least in their profiles, and I'm not in the market for bodice ripping. Anyway, I'm pretty left-leaning without identifying as a leftist, so please tolerate this bout of neurosineurosis.
Straight providers may just be also part of the community because (potential justifications)
    1. Straight is just self-identification, but if you have sex with men, you may not be gay, but you ain't straight.
    2. Sex workers are automatically part of the queer community
    3. Straight used by gay or bi providers as a marketing ploy, since for every one man who eschew straight dick like me, there's likely more than another with a straight fetish.

I’m vaccinated. Reports show that the vaccine works against severe illness for omicron. I know folks who’ve gotten COVID since the omicron wave has been in full swing and are vaccinated, and every one of them has has nothing more than a cold. I took the vaccine to have a normal life again. A normal life is not one with a promise of no sickness. So am I, as a vaccinated and boostered person, ready to live that normal life? Yes. The hysteria must end.

    1000000% this.
I am hesitant to hire a guy who has a robust online presence. Not only is his time “valuable,” but his whole air about him changes. I’m not hiring him to make him happy but the other way around.
There once was a day when service providers saw providing a service as something honorable because they SERVED people with their work (service). It seems a lot of these providers who have online outlets don’t see it that way. They’re doing us a favor by coming down among us hoi-poi.
There once was a day when the working mentality of service providers was “the customer is always right.” In escorting, it seems the escort sets the terms of satisfaction, and if you don’t like it, move on.
There’s also no recourse for refund if you’re unsatisfied. Imagine refunding a client…Escorts want a deposit. What do I get if he didn’t live up to his ad? I get to leave a bad review on RM that’ll get taken down if he appeals. Ohhhhhh. Scary. He still has my money. And I still had a shit experience. And he still wasted my time and money, which I could’ve potentially used on a more fitting escort.

@MscleLovr…not sure how asking if a certain amount is “too much” and then demonstrating how it plays out over the course of a year is irrelevant. I even set the bar lower in an attempt to demonstrate that less is sufficient “to make ends meet.” To me, asking if some provider is charging too much is asking two questions: 1) is the provider being realistic given the local market and 2) is the amount “worth it?” There are many ways to look at each of those questions.
If the object is for the escort to make a sustainable living, $400/hr is more than sufficient in NYC. If he’s good enough, he’ll have more than enough business to be comfortable. If he’s not, he’ll fall out of the market because he can’t make it. But $400/hr is sufficient to get by.
The question of worth is wholly different, and it’s subjective. A good escort could charge less and still be comfortable with loads of clients. He could also probably charge more, “get ahead,” and still have loads of clients because many think he’s “worth it.”
”Too much” is vague. It really depends what you’re asking about. Fairness in compensation or value for a particular escort. But demonstrating that $400/hr is within the comfortable COL range is not irrelevant to a discussion of “too much.”
I hope I’ve shown that now by explaining.

First of all, that’s a disparaging, derogatory reading of what I wrote.
Secondly, I do look holistically at the guy. And I’ve found that those who haven’t fallen victim to “Hollywood glam” are much better at providing. Add to that that they’re not as expensive, it’s a better combo for me.
I resent the idea that I’m picking over providers like menu items. I resent it greatly and find it personally insulting.

Do you in real life stop and get out of your way to give constructive feedback to people with clear bad intentions or who comment complete non-sense? Or do you eyeroll and continue with your life?
The whole point of reactions, most of the times, is saving you writing a comment, like the new "Thank You" and "Agree +1" reactions, which I think are great.
Of course the "Thumbs Down, "Angry Face" and the "Bomb" were very negative reactions and it's good we don't have them anymore but the "Verbose" is also not very clear on what it connotes, and  it's among the less used.
I'd find an "Eyeroll" reaction specially useful to address the abundant Newbies or Trolls, without directly engaging with them, who create an account to just write 1 single comment, or those who just want to steer the pot. At least with an "Eyeroll" they would get the message that one is not taking any of their words seriously, but also that one is not going to engage into an argument with them.

Interesting thoughts and perspectives here. I agree (as I often do) with @Jamie21 in that you have to have a bit of flexibility with your schedule, else this will drive you crazy.

that said I’m somewhere in the middle. If I have no planned activities I’ll go crazy, and portions of my life are regimented (first alarm at 6, second at 6:10, gym at 6:30, etc). But others are up to chance.

now about things I do outside of providing:
    - I’ve said it before but I love live music and concerts. I’m at at least one a week. If I’ve been to your city, I’ve probably been to a concert In your city. I also have a huge playlist of music I listen to traveling to and from your cities.
    - for 8 years I was an editor for Fleshbot (it’s linked in my signature). For a few months I was one of the lead editors on the gay side. I’ve since parted ways with them but I know some porn stars and write about a lot of them.
    - I’m in the gym a lot, it keeps me from going crazy.

    - I like going to galleries and museums and looking at all the art. I made my ec go to the philbrook in Tulsa before I moved, and he got me a membership to the high in atlanta for my birthday.

    - if you’ve been to my home, you know I’ve become a plant dad recently. You also know the place has changed a lot since I moved in and I’ve been making it my own.

It can be hard to know if a guy is an asshole before you meet if it’s escorting. Unless of course he’s a bottom! 😂
I’ve found some guys extremely attractive until I get to know them. Then they become ugly to me. If they’re jerks. But a homelier guy can become more attractive if he has a good personality. That said, if I don’t know anything about personality, I can still be attracted to a guy.
On a related but different note, I think there’s also a difference between recognizing someone is good looking, attractive, hot, etc. and being turned on by them. I can appreciate and identify a good looking woman; she still doesn’t turn me on. I don’t think society taught my body to not have a physiological response to seeing a good looking woman, even if I “know” she’s attractive.

Pre covid19 I used to go to Puerto Vallarta twice a year once in November and once in March/April. The weather was great. The summers in P.V. are awful – extremely hot and humid. I always stayed in the old town in a condo overlooking the pier. Every city in the world has districts in which one should not walk around alone late at night. That is equally true of Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, London, Paris, and Rome as it is of Puerto Vallarta. I have always felt safe walking the streets of old town Puerto Vallarta regardless of the time of day or of night. I often walked home from the stripper bar Wet at one or two in the morning and never felt threatened.
I have always enjoyed shopping for Mexican Arts & Crafts in a multitude of great shops in P.V. The only place, in Mexico, having better restaurants than Puerto Vallarta is Mexico City. To name just three: 1.) Trio wonderful continental food in a lovely setting, 2.) Café de Artistes patio dinning that is drop dead gorgeous and excellent food. It is pretentious but worth a visit, and 3.) No Se Nada Bar y Restaurante serves outstanding Mexican food. The fish is especially good.
Now that covid19 seems to be winding down I am looking forward to returning to my old haunts in Puerto Vallarta. However, first, after a forty-year hiatus, I need to make a visit to Mexico City which I hope to do in November.
P.S. Returning to topic over the years I have picked up, more than a few, damn good looking dancer from the stripper bar "Wet".  Most are happy to make arrangements to meet after the bar closes or the next afternoon, at my condo, for some fun and games.  There are a couple other stripper bars where similar arrangements can be made with the dancers.  It is just that I have always preferred "Wet"

    These are current stats…

I was actually surprised to see rent is indexed at about 4% cheaper than NYC. Although on reflection, I’ve heard it’s becoming more and more difficult to find housing there unless you’re grandfathered in under previous rent control protections.
In my opinion, housing costs are crazy. Where I live, it’s actually cheaper to get a mortgage than pay rent. Problem is…a lot of folks who would normally rent don’t have the equity and/or credit to secure a mortgage, and so they end up renting and paying more than those who can buy outright.
