I'm not interested in "yucking your yum", but I see hiring an escort as hiring a person. So they may look a little different. But I've never experienced a guy with clean cut pictures showing up looking like a punk. When I reach out I'm looking for hints at their personality. I often send a photo and ask for a recent one. 
If people are having these experiences, I would suggest that you ask to FaceTime or some other way of confirming appearance before you confirm the appointment. 

I can empathize about hiring 100’s of escorts over my lifetime but only 3 or 4 were mind blowing experiences who were worth my hard earned money.   The temptation is to seek variety hoping for more of those experiences but I have found sticking (if geography and finances allow) to the same regulars is more worth than finding a new guy.   

Before I begin, I want to say that these are my opinions based on personal experiences. After 10 years of hiring men, I can say that I’m totally giving up on it. I’m in my 30’s, so I guess I’m a little pickier, but of the 100+ men I’ve hired over the years, I can honestly only think of 3-4 that were actually worth it. Most of the time, the guy does not look nearly as good as his pictures ( not as muscular, older than advertised, different body pics used, etc.). Most of these guys I could likely meet for free. Somewhere down the line, hiring men became an addiction because I’ve suffered from low self esteem most of my life and any sort of rejection would put me in a funk.   I’m realizing now that spending so much money just to avoid my fears is not helping me in the long run.
 
I feel so ashamed to have spent so much money over the years for companionship I basically could have received for free had I stuck to a workout routine. 
I will say that the worst escorts are usually the Eastern European/Russian ones or the South American ones. They’re usually the rudest and more likely to have misleading pictures/ show disinterest.

I started hiring in my twenties, but I didn't hire very often back then not only because I had much less money and it was pre-internet but also because I got more of my needs met by dating which was much easier for me in my twenties and thirties (and even into my forties) than into my fifties and now sixties. To be honest, even when guys do match their descriptions that's no guarantee that the session will feel "worth it" since that's entirely objective.  Sounds like you've figured out that, at least at this point in your life, hiring isn't for you.  Don't get hung up on regretting your past choices; just most forward.

MOST escorts don't live in "the big city with the high life".   In fact I would venture a guess to say very few live the "high life".  All of the ones I know across a dozen cities are just normal guys who are not rich by any means. While some escorts are able to sustain their lifestyle through their work, I would venture a guess that MANY do it as a side gig to have extra spending cash or supplement their income.   You make the assumption that once you hit your mid 30's, it's all downhill and that their escorting days are over.  Some escorts just start hitting their stride in their 30-40's.  Not everyone is looking to hire an 18-25 year old.    There are several escorts that I know who have been able to make a pretty long run out of the activity with no signs of slowing down.   You're making the assumption the escort would not have made provisions for later in life. This is no different than someone in ANY field/career.  Some do and some don't.  As I noted, for many it's not even their primary income.  Those that do have it as their primary income typically are smarter about knowing it does not last forever and have something else they can do outside of escorting.  One started his own massage business...  another went into construction...  another is a motivational speaker.  There are a lot of career options outside of escorting!

Not a provider, but rates aren’t posted by US providers because RM won’t let them.  Not sure where you live, but if it’s in the US, that’s why can’t see rates.
As for WhatsApp, you can download an app that will let you text a WhatsApp number without putting the number into your address book.  The Android app is called WhatsDirect.  The iOS one is Dialer for WhatsApp.

Discussion of escorts and things rising is, I would hope, quite normal. Start getting worried when things don’t go up.

Inflation, especially for escorts living in major cities, is a reality.  Clients might not like it, but rates will continue to rise as cost of living increases. 
$300/hr is quite normal. $350-400 for a stellar, well-reviewed guy isn't unreasonable.

Asshole confirmed. When I texted him, he asked if I was white or latino. When I said Asian, he texted back rude and belittling words.

I was in London a few weeks ago and looked at him several times because tall, ginger, and British are my three weaknesses.  I didn't pull the trigger though because of the recency of the ad, the lack of reviews, and the uninspired profile.  It looks like he's added a few more pics in the last couple weeks though.

A thousand dollars will go a long way if used wisely. Invest it. To some people I know it would make a big difference to how they experience Christmas. Remember that. 

I’m a masseur too, there’s always flakes and I agree escorts probably get more aggravation. If you assume they’re all just trying to annoy you then yes it will be incredibly dispiriting but I know that a good proportion of the flakes are just genuine guys who are totally scared at the prospect of hiring a guy for a sexual encounter. For this reason I try to be understanding. Working in sex work can make you blasé about these things so it’s always important to consider that clients don’t come at it from the same perspective as me. Yes some are just wasters and will sap your energy but I can spot those. Most will be genuine guys who are hiring for the first time, so I give them the benefit of the doubt. When they do pluck up the courage to see me it’s always a pleasure to help them explore. I get a lot of satisfaction from those clients.

iMessages are just text messages that are routed through Apple's servers rather than over the carriers'.  The color just shows what route it took.
I'm on a thread with two college friends, two of us use iPhones and the other uses an Android for his cell service but also uses an iPad.  Messages that he sends from his iPad are delivered as iMessages and appear blue, the ones from his cell aren't and appear green.
