In the recent episode they made first contact with a planet who believe that people who are born under a certain zodiac sign are prone to violence and are imprisoned.

I would think that the solution would be quite simple. Since the gestation period is known just do not have sex during the time that birth would later occur during that sign.

In the recent episode in passing the Caitians were mentioned. I don't know if this is the same feline race as in the Star Trek universe.

Imo "The Orville" is much better that the CBS Star Trek!

Just once, in college. It was a static line jump where you jump out alone. You don't actually pull the ripcord, but it's attached to the plane, and is supposed to pull your chute out for you.

Before anything, we had jump school. First, falling. Keep your knees bent, and roll. Did a series of several practice falls beginning on the ground, then from three progressively higher platforms. Ah, to be young and limber. Then, practice how to arch your back, hold our arms out (so you don't tumble in the air) and look up to see if the parachute opened all the way, and if not, how disconnect the parachute and open the emergency chute.

When it came time to actually do it, I didn't expect some things. The plane was a little prop plane with only one seat for the pilot. There were only two of us jumping that day, so four of us in the plane. When it was my turn, had to crawl to the outside out of the plane. One foot on a small step attached to the plane below the opening onto the plane (no door) while your other foot stuck out in the air, and use your hands to hang on to a thin support beam that went in front of the opening from the lower part of the plane body to the wing, then look at instructor to tell you when to jump.

Once I jumped, arched my back, arms extended, and looked up. We were told to the chute would not open immediately so as not to get tangled up in he plane (I vaguely recall were were told to count). What I didn't expect, is instead of expecting the plane to just continue onward, it shrank do my falling so fast. Such a weird sight, I just stared. Then, the there was the tug on my shoulders, and the chute opened all the way. Whew. Then it was so quiet, and you could pull a cord on each side to turn and look all around while you were just floating in the air with no sense of movement other than changing views. A wonderful sensation.

Then the landing. I probably had my knees bent too early, but glad I did, as just before landing, the ground seemed to rush up at me, and next thing I know I was rolling on the ground, and the the chute fell a ways away. When I landed, I heard noise similar to knuckles cracking, and got scared I broke some bones. No pain, but I stared to move things very slowly, beginning with my toes, then ankles, legs, fingers, arms, and then rolled my body, and all worked. Got up, and as I was gathering up the chute, their driver was there to take me back to the grass airport.

Glad I did it, but never had a desire to do it again.

Never tried it, but for indoor:

DEAR ABBY: My uncle who has Alzheimer’s has declined rapidly. Prior to his decline, I bought 30 greeting cards every month and made sure to mail one to him each day. I live in Florida, and he lives in Kentucky.

I received much satisfaction and joy with every post I sent. My mother would open the cards and tape them to the outside of the door of his room. His neighbors would pause and read them as they passed by, and he used the montage of seasonal greetings as a way to recognize his door.

My uncle is no longer cognizant or coherent, and my mother has told me to stop sending the cards. Abby, I need this activity in my life. How can I find another person who would welcome a greeting card? I am semi-paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. I have no interest in meeting, visiting or even talking to the recipient; I just want to send greeting cards. Suggestions?

    LOVES SENDING SMILES

DEAR LOVES: It’s time to find another outlet for your caring and compassion. Contact the eldercare facilities in your community, speak to the directors and ask if one (or more) of the residents might enjoy receiving your seasonal greetings. I’m betting the answer will be yes.

Yesterday on THE VIEW the panel was going to discuss Wilbur Ross’ brilliant observation that workers who weren’t getting paid during the shutdown should just get loans…

The Whoopster is off on Fridays (Ana Navarro joins the panel) and Joy is the moderator. In introducing the topic, Joy pronounced Wilbur as Mr. Ed used to (RIP), and one of the other panelists asked why she pronounced it that way. She said it was from some character (she thought) from Charlotte’s Web. Nobody at the table knew better… somebody from the audience mentioned Mr. Ed to Meaghan, but she didn’t know who that was and nobody else at the table heard the exchange.

That is not entirely true. There are several breeds of cat that form bonds with one or more of their people. Examples include Scottish Fold, Russian Blue, and Korat.

I'm skeptical about the popularity of version that involves glitter. Yes, I know some people are into some, uh, "out of the ordinary" activities. That one strikes me as being an urban legend more than a "thing."

I can totally see someone trying the version that involved the real apple, but I'd question the lubricant choice. It's like using water as lube.

I’ve been a few times. If you’re interested in going, there’s lots of info online.

You may have left it a little late, however, to buy tickets for the big parties and the parade itself. And for attending the big parade, it’s worth buying the best seats in the grandstand. There’s also extensive TV coverage but the commentary is pretty tedious.
