The thing is - I often ask providers what their 1 and 2 hour rates are, and I cannot recall a single instance where they also gave me their 2-hour rate. They only give me their 1 hour rate. No idea what that always happens.

I honestly think it's not a bad idea to both plan ahead and have a couple back-up choices for a last minute meet. Unfortunately, I have had several instances of providers cancelling on me last minute after I had planned in advance to meet with them while travelling. In many cases, I found some very good providers as last minute replacements. 
My recommendation: Definitely plan ahead for that one guy you really have your eyes on and hopefully it'll work out. But look at maybe 2-3 other guys (particualrly if they have available now on) and just have them in mind in case you need to find a last-minute back up. 

I had a situation with another well reviewed provider on RM and on here. We had arranged an outcall a couple of days in advance and re-confirmed the day of. Then a couple of hours before the agreed time, he texts that he wants a deposit. I told him no and if he wanted a deposit he should have told me upfront so I could contact a different provider. That is total BS. 

What is this "lengthy chat" bullshit? I hope that was the second lesson you learned. Both parties here have the same mission: ask and answer a FEW questions and make an appointment.
A provider is not your friend, your bud, or your pal. Certainly not an initial hire. The time for chit chat is after loads are shot and you're eating up the end of the session laying bed. MAYBE, after the appointment has been made in the initial conversation.
Lenghty chat, ie. gaining your "confidence, "  is a time tested con man technique.
We repeatedly hear providers refer to chatty clients as time wasters, and say it's a red flag. This holds true in both sides of the equation. If a provider engages in chat vs getting down to scheduling, it's a big red flag, and I'm moving on!

Sorry but it’s gone. You fell for his talk. There’s lots of debate on here about deposits, so I won’t add to it but I will say that if you’re given a ‘family crisis’ type story to justify sending money then the best and only sensible thing to do is say “I hope things work out for you” and then end the conversation and find a more professional provider.

made a date yesterday, traveled 45 minutes on the NYC transit system to the provider's hotel. texted him i was in the lobby and was told i neeed to make a deposit. weird. and the deposit had to apple pay. no other options. lol. seriously. texted photos of the hotel lobby and was told i'm a time waster. sigh. 45 minute trip home. who's the time waster. then he had the nerve to text a tirade because i refused to pay the deposit. dear lord.and then a friend of his started texting me about how grotesque i am...a new low. 

Scheduled with him for tomorrow a few days ago, but he canceled this evening… Probably for the best. Hot pics, but I’m not sure about this one

Says he will be in Honolulu next week. Might take the plunge. Anyone have any intel? 

I wanted to also make another point.
I thought of all of the other professional  services where a provider would visit a client’s home: Barbers, manicurists, nannies, plumbers, electricians, private chefs. None of them separately ask their clients to arrange them Ubers, or to cover some related transportation cost. 
 
 

If I were an escort, instead of “nickel & diming” clients, I’d just factor it into my standard rate. 
 
The client wouldn’t think about it, I’d have my transportation covered, and we’d both have a seamless, smooth experience. 
 

I prefer nice clean transactions. Cash in big bills and no Uber. My tip will more than cover any transport. I’m not paying to make my life more complicated.

If the provider is relatively new, I don’t really care about the number of reviews. However, I would stay away from an established provider who started advertising several year’s ago but had only a few reviews. 

A few times now I have texted to set up an outcall and given my location at a central downtown hotel. The provider gives me their outcall rate and I say okay. Then they come back and want me to also arrange an Uber to and from. If you know where you are coming, then why not just give me your rate to reflect that and arrange your own? Don’t make it more complicated than it needs to be. 

There's a big difference between "unwilling" and "passive" participant. Unwilling (and unable) is intrugal to the definition of "rape."
