Most of the time the body keeps the virus "in check" and you are without symptoms. During the shingles "flair" the virus is extremely contagious. It’s just that the vast majority of adults around you are immune (either from having chick pox as a child or having received the chick pox vaccine). Someone who has had neither chicken pox nor the vaccine, could contract the virus from someone with shingles.
Also, people who are severely immunocompromised (e.g. end stage HIV) are at risk of contracting the virus (even if they had chicken and/or were vaccinated) and developing symptoms. 
So yes, shingles is contagious. It’s just that 99% of the time it’s irrelevant.

This is not dancer related but related to my trip to Montreal this weekend. When I left the hotel and picked up my car in the underground parking at the Hyatt in the Village, I had a flat rear tire. On a Sunday morning. You can imagine my consternation! 
Luckily I had thrown a can of instant repair and inflation in the trunk years ago(my Mercedes is 23 years old) but had never had occasion to use it. So I tried it and it worked, just as described on the can. It was good enough to get to a gas station which had a air pump so I topped it up.
I was able to drive home 120 miles at 60mph ( I didn't want to press my luck) and put the car in my garage. I only lost 20 minutes in my travel time from hotel to home. What a life saver that little can was! If you drive a lot, get one.

I went Friday (yesterday) and almost all the guys were there.
