Why would they reach out to their customer base when they can just remove ad content with no explanation whatsoever?

I suspect to make their advertisers aware of what was changing rather than leave the impression that they were making random edits of their ads.

I can confirm they are reading the ads and the clients profiles one by one and making manual editions. I just got this in my RM mail:

"Hello latforblk,

We would like to inform you that due to some recently introduced legal requirements in your region, your About Me text was reviewed and may be modified.

Be aware, that any text that may be considered as promotion of prostitution is strictly forbidden, as well any information about rates or donations. Also, it is not allowed to publish phone numbers, email addresses or external links.

If you need any clarifications, please contact us!

Thank you for your understanding!

Your RentMen team"

@tylerthebadwolf posted on Twitter that he got the same message, with the question “then what am I paying you for?“ – He has a really good point – it’s one thing if we can’t post rates, and need to be careful about language, but if we can’t post phone numbers or links, how are people supposed to contact us? The RM email system is unreliable and burdensome. It seems like it’s the only thing left, and it means clients suddenly have tons more work to do to figure out who they want to see, and we escorts will either see a significant drop in business, or a significant uptick in inquiry emails. I’ve never been one to believe that anyone has any authority to tell me what to do, and I was willing to proceed as I have been in light of this legislation, and I feel sad that there are knee-jerk reactions happening everywhere.

If escorts can’t publish phone numbers, email addresses or external links on RM, what’s left? Are they going to be limited to the RM internal communication option? That should inspire more escorts to use it, but how is that any different from using those other (now prohibited) means of communicating? Isn’t this getting close to a site that just shows photos of attractive guys?!

The bill hasn't been passed but many people are freaking out, does anyone know when will the new law happen?

The bill was passed and it's awaiting Trump's signature to become law. I assume it goes into effect upon signing since I haven't heard of any other "effective date".

I was thinking of doing a petition to Trump reminding him that his dear Twitter would be endangered by this bill, along with many other sites if he signs this bill.

When are the phone numbers supposed to be removed from the rentmen ads?

I just checked some guys I know and their correct phone numbers are still in their ad.

Do it! Somebody needs to step in. It would surprise me if he does sign it though, his own First Lady is with him for nothing more than his riches because I know damn well, ain't shit going on with that. He a trick and she a ho. A high class, elite ass ho at that. The mistress of an adulterer twice married. The hell can they claim holier than thou. Hypocritical mutha fu.....He pull some shit like that, Putin can gone on ahead and send that bomb to West Palm. I'm trying to get the fuck out of here before that shit goes down.

I think they meant perhaps have the phone number directly in the ad. It's relatively easy to find it in the contact me button. I think they did it before this, as a safety measure. Perhaps if an escort ends up missing, they can trace back the number....as you have to click on the escorts phone number in order to dial them.

I'm totally speculating here, but I suspect that as long as they're clearing out rates from the ads' text, they're removing phone numbers and links external websites as well. That way if they decide in the future a need to remove phone numbers, they can do it with a flip of a switch (hide that field) and not have to review every ad again. And that's the day I seriously consider pulling my ad. Else they'll mimic M4RN's (may she not rest in peace) slimy trick of leaving the ad up but with no contact info when the advertiser stops paying.

I do not think the phone number issue is related to FOSTA. They are removing the numbers from the narrative because it is a way for the providers to keep receiving calls even if they stopped paying for the ad. I am not going to tell who, because I am sure RM monitors these forums, but several of my guys have ads that are expired but you can still use them to get the contact info because they sneaked the contact number in the narrative.

Removing contact info from the narrative (rather than the escort’s Contact Me section) makes more sense, although I don’t like the idea.

My phone number still shows up under the 'contact me' thing, but I never had it written directly in the ad. BUT....

they removed like two blocks of text from my ad that didn't even refer to rate at all. They took out the part that said I can only do out-calls, and then they also took out a less-important part that was just supposed to be like a cheerful "whether you enjoy X or Y or Z or etc., I'd be happy to join you!" where none of X Y and Z referred to anything even remotely sexual.

It's still ok I guess but I feel like it just sucks that this is all happening, especially since I just started and haven't built up much of a reliable client-base yet lol.

I mean I'm sure SOMETHING will pop-up to fill the void.. maybe mintboys will get more popular, even though you can't post revealing pics or vids on there. It's definitely just frustrating.

Also frustrating not because of this particular instance, but because this could create a scary-weird precedence where websites become more and more and more responsible for how their users use the websites. I'm not freaking out because I don't think this is gonna lead to like, China-level internet censorship but... it definitely could be a slippery slope. My 'about me' text feels so empty now I don't know what else to add into it at this point haha.

/endrant

Sorry if this stuff had been said before in this thread.. it's been so long since I've used forums at all that I've lost the patience to go through the entire thread haha. I should probably start doing that again.

On a side note... I know this is a bit off-topic but if anyone has any input on what I could write in the about me section now that like 1/2 of what I had is gone, i'd be happy to hear suggestions haha. Maybe DM so this thread doesn't get off topic.

Just recieved an email this morning from the Rentmen webmaster, stating

"We would like to inform you that due to some recently introduced legal requirements in your region, your About Me text was reviewed and may be modified.

Be aware, that any text that promotes escort services or other services that may be interpreted as providing sexual acts in exchange for compensation is strictly forbidden, including information about rates or donations. It is not allowed to publish phone numbers, email addresses or external links, except personal websites.

They removed some text that was a quote from a client making reference to "being inside him" and also a reference to "being comfortable with whatever the clients safety preference is". They still allow me to list my website, which is all I really care about, as I ultimately prefer that clients reach out to me through there. I'm sure if you haven't recieved a similar message from them, and your text contains anything objectionable, you will soon.

Besides, all you have to do is waiting for this panic editing task to finish. They cannot monitor manually every single ad. Wait a few weeks, and then figure a way to sneak through the security filters. Some suggestions were shared before, use your creativity.

I suspect they'd be reviewing all new submissions going forward.

Once the ad has expired all text narrative disappears.

Here's an example.
