“I cannot pretend I am without fear. But my predominant feeling is one of gratitude. I have loved and been loved; I have been given much and I have given something in return; I have read and traveled and thought and written. I have had an intercourse with the world, the special intercourse of writers and readers.

Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and adventure.”

 National boundaries are not evident when we view the Earth from space. Fanatical ethnic or religious or national chauvinisms are a little difficult to maintain when we see our planet as a fragile blue crescent fading to become an inconspicuous point of light against the bastion and citadel of the stars.

Dr. Seuss on aging.jpg

There is a way out -

To take up arms against a sea of troubles,
and by opposing end them? To die, to sleep ... and by a sleep to say
we end t
he heartache and the thousand natural shocks
that flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation devoutly to be wish'd.
To die, to sleep.

To sleep? Perchance to dream? Ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
when we have shuffled off this mortal coil must give us pause ...
thus conscience does make cowards of us all.

[Hamlet, Act III, Scene 1]
