it sounds like it would be exciting but this day and age I would pass on this kind of action completely. I get why some would get a rush but I just don't think its' worth it not with what we can get these days in a much more controlled environment.

The title of this thread brought back happy memories of all those exciting days and nights cruising Washington Square, Christopher St, Greenwich St, CPW, 42nd St. etc. A lot changes in sixty years.

That place at 8th and 39th charges to go upstairs where the trade hang out -- from what I remember -- and in waiting downstairs browsing the videos (and there is a meagre selection) one has to wait a long time to see who is upstairs -- personally do not feel like forking out the fee unless I know therfe is something worthwhile to climb up to that small tight space.

 

Whatever happened to the more comfortable roomy areas where you had 2 or 3 rows of booths, guys standing two or three deep.... the good 'ole days...

There were so many great places back in the day. I remember a theatre that was around the east village maybe? You entered through an unmarked door and if I remember correctly there was a theatre downstairs that had several nooks. There was almost a cavern-like atmosphere to the space. Does this ring a bell for anyone else or has the pornography topography gotten all jumbled up in memory lol?

I live on that street! When I moved to nyc in the late 90s, i remember the meat packing district was truly the meat packing district and that corner that you speak of in Chelsea was really not where anyone would want to go.

The area I saw several weekend ago was approximately East 39 Street. I forget the cross avenue. But, please walk in that area in late afternoon.

There too. My experience was many years ago on the east side of Manhattan, during the day. I was surprised it was still the same.

what i meant to say was that there is a very specific street scene going on around 8th avenue from about 37th street to the port authority - helped on by the "arcade" style porn shops along the street - i would call it "men who have sex with men but do not necessarily identify as 'gay'"
