It doesn't matter what the minimum age in those countries is if you are a US citizen. If you are traveling outside of the US, keep it 18 or older regardless.

State and federal laws are two different things. If you are flying internationally, federal laws apply and that means 18 or older.  

Let's keep this discussion to 18+ for the forum's sake please, at the very least.

Lest the symposium inadvertently drift to overly USA-centric …

In contrast to USA extraterritorial jurisdiction based on age of majority 18 years, Canada’s extraterritorial jurisdiction is based on age of majority 16 years. In both nations and about one-quarter of countries globally with similar ETJ legislation, the legal reach is domestic prosecution for activity abroad.

Otherwise, a Canadian tourist is subject to local abroad age of majority standard, eg, 17, 18 in countries where it exceeds 16. Prosecution in those cases applied locally. 

As such, for example, it is apparent that a 22-year old Canadian is not free to be intimate with a 16 year old Canadian friend when they are in Detroit, compared to its acceptability in Windsor, assuming for the latter location the older person not defined as a position of essential authority and it isn’t transactional, “obtaining sexual services for consideration”.

That said, obtaining sexual services for consideration is more serious and with harsher penalties for the purchaser when the provider is under the age of 18. Age of majority, definition of minor, shifts according to the Protection of Communities Act. I assume that the ETJ applies abroad and the age 18 minimum provider age standard underscored in the thread clearly stands.

Thanks for the clarification.  I have to admit I was a bit confused because you had earlier advised OP to "[g]o to Belgium. Netherlands. Germany. Etc," presumably to avoid the restrictions or uncertainty of US law.

There's no difference here between paid and unpaid. US citizens cannot travel to have sex with under 18yo, paid or unpaid. It's not about just providers being 18+. Unpaid situations are illegal for US citizens traveling international too. There are no "different scenarios" here.

I'm not confusing anything, and, by the way, this isn't a hobby.  Stamp collecting is a hobby.  Sex work is a complicated, frequently illegal process by which money is exchanged for companionship and/or sex.  It can be dangerous and exploitative and, depending on how it transpires, can pose all kinds of moral ambiguity.

There is an undercurrent of revulsion here to the scenario of a 50-year-old man having sex with a 16-year-old boy. And I'm not giving you legal advice here, but if you're in Michigan or one of 30 other states and a 16 year old boy on his birthday shows you his ID and proves that he's 16 and you see his birth certificate and you absolutely know that he's 16 and he wants to sit on your dick then you absolutely legally can. It is probably very dangerous to hire him because then you run afoul of a lot of other server laws. Some of you might be disgusted by the image of a 16 yr old boy and a grown man, but trust me this whole forum bathes in things that a majority of Americans think is pretty disgusting and unethical. I think it's okay to cast stones sometimes because I hate false equivalencies.  But I think it's important to not fear monger. Being disgusted with each other is of course acceptable and indeed commonplace on this board.

The PROTECT Act was passed in 2003. It makes it a crime for a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to have sex with someone under the age of 18 in a foreign country. This crime can be prosecuted in the United States.

I've hired a couple of younger providers. What I did was look for providers that had an OF presence. I can't say I've used OF too much lately, but at the very least, I believe they do a good job with actually verifying that the performers are of legal age. The co-stars or "collab" partners seemed to be an entirely different story. Back when I subbed a lot of people, some of them did truly odd things. I remember OF put a policy in place where you had to provide documentation or tag the profile of any co-stars. I recall a guy who kept tagging the same content creator and it was in no way the same guy. One time it was a cute Asian twink, another time a really dark Latino twink, then a blond white surfer dude. In no way would they all be the same person. I guess the OF guy wanted to post content with his random hookups who didn't have OF profiles and found an easy way to circumvent this policy. I definitely hope they've gotten better with that (it really seemed so easy to bypass any kind of verification with this random tagging).

But anyway, some of my worst experiences have been with these younger providers. I arranged something with a 19 year old I found on Rentmen. I was 27 at the time. I've mentioned the story a few times, but the twink straight up robbed me and almost got away with it. I don't know if they're more daring at that age, but he was the true embodiment of a "demon twink". I had some other positive experiences, but the bad ones have been so bad that I try not to go for younger than 21 YO these days.

To put things in perspective, in many Eu countries voting age is 16.
