luvhusky Posted Monday at 03:09 PM Posted Monday at 03:09 PM Supposed to be there April 11. This sucks for us but it really sucks that these cartels have run this country for so long. I had a feeling this gaycation paradise wouldn’t last forever + glutes, + Lucky and marylander1940 2 1
+ Snbrd Posted Monday at 04:39 PM Posted Monday at 04:39 PM This is awful. Having gone to PV in February and March several times, I was going to post an inquiry about May in PV. As I debated between posting it on the Lounge or Travel forums, I read this. Let's hope this is a once and never again episode. For the best interests of our community and their economy. 🤞
Venite Posted Monday at 04:54 PM Posted Monday at 04:54 PM (edited) I’m sure American residents who planned trips for a vacation are disappointed. It is imperative that well wishes and goodwill be mostly focused on people who must reside in these areas under the informal rule of cartels. The brutality of those cartels is unspeakable. Like, child ******* and ****** unspeakable. I was disturbed greatly by a story I heard this morning. I hope cjng can be wiped off of the face of the earth. Edit: I know this may break the rules of this lounge (no politics/war) but it just seems like an important note to add to the discussion. Edited Monday at 04:55 PM by Venite
luvhusky Posted Monday at 05:59 PM Posted Monday at 05:59 PM What will remain is that the cartels will control everything and Mexicans are stuck with this. For us it’s only a slutty vacation. But for Mexico it’s so awful. Nothing can run without the cartels permission + Lucky and Luv2play 1 1

mike carey Posted Monday at 06:34 PM Posted Monday at 06:34 PM Gentlemen, let's table the discussion about how the cartels came to have such sway over events in Mexico, particularly any political discussion about influences from north of the Rio Bravo del Norte. The situation is sad, and the implications for the tourist industry potentially profound, there is ample scope for discussion of that. MikeBiDude and + Pensant 1 1

+ Letmeworshipit Posted Monday at 08:32 PM Posted Monday at 08:32 PM I have friends in P.V. and in Ajijic on Lake Chapala, both in Jalisco where I lived for a time. They say that today is calm but that a lot of damage has been done to banks, businesses, busses, roads and cars/trucks. It's a mess that will take some time to clean up. IF the cartels don't keep terrorizing the state as a payback for the US/MX forces offing the leader. marylander1940 1

MaybeMaybeNot Posted Tuesday at 03:06 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:06 PM Why I don't travel to Mexico. Unfortunately, this is going to impact the livelihoods of many people in the area. I suspect the cartels are shooting themselves in the foot too. caliguy 1

Back to rethinking As much as I love PV (well, I haven't visited since 2019 but prior to that I was visiting twice per year for several years), I don't think there's any need to "rethink" for the time being. Just don't go. I have traveled to Mexico in the past despite US State Department advisements not to do so, but this situation is obviously different. Agreed, it's called: Plata o plomo, silver or lead! In many Latin American countries like Argentina and Uruguay the word "plata" (silver) is still used as a synonym for money because the old Spanish coins were made out of silver.

+ Pensant Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago It’s not just fentanyl-laced drugs they are selling. I’ll leave it at that. I never made it to PV, but love Todos Santos in Baja California del Sur, as well as CDMX. My friends in TS report that all is peaceful! + claym 1
