That they emerge on other platforms is not the issue.  The voice of opposition is being silenced.

My point is that they will *not* be silenced just because one network bent the knee.

Kimmel was crude and crass, and alienated half of the country. Not a good recipe for success.
Kimmel was not funny. His show was supposed to be late night COMEDY. Repeat - COMEDY. His viewers could have more fun staring at the wall.
Kimmel had lousy ratings and was losing $$$. Reruns of Hee Haw would get better ratings than cry baby Kimmel. He can now go on the View with Colbert and have a group hug and cry with the girls.

Jimmy Kimmel became a huge business liability to Nexstar/ABC/Disney > Bye. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
What's really surprising Kimmel made it this long..

Even if he was a business liability it took a mob style blackmail for him to be cancelled....

I guess half the country is very sensitive and can't take a joke.... sad but true!

Too bad for Kimmel that even the half of the country he didn't alienate didn't bother to tune into his 60-minute snoozefest.

He is not funny and his only talent is being a Grade A  a__hole.  He was costing Nexstar/ABC/Disney not only a ton of $$, but plenty of goodwill.
The "joke" that got him "suspended indefinitely" was the final nail in his coffin. The Kirk family is still grieving. The body is not yet buried. Kimmel lacks even a shred of human decency. No surprise that the Kirk family is already lawyering up.

There is a reason that his and his late night cohorts ratings have been crashing.

Bozo is predicting that Kimmel's replacement, Celebrity Family Feud, which is actually funny, will be far more successful.

If he’d been cancelled for failed ratings, your point would be relevant. But you know that’s not true; he was canceled to suppress dissent. You might think that’s ok, if he doesn’t share your values. The problem you have is this works both ways. This will hit home for you (and likely sooner than you think), but I suspect by then it will be too late. That’s the point.

That's only partially true. The fact is that Kimmel has been spewing this type of hatred for years. And there is a direct correlation between the level of hate he spewed and his collapsing ratings. Even some of his more loyal fans didn't want to listen to his nonsense before bedtime or while having sex.
Nexstar/ABC/Disney were all looking for an excuse to dump him. Kimmel, with his over-the-top "jokes" about a man who was just murdered by an assassin's bullet,  gave it to them.

He can always do Substack, or have a podcast with Joyless Reid. There's got to be an audience for 2 no-talent haters like them.

Late night TV called out uncomfortable facts by making light of them. Calling out an unflattering truth exposes glaring hypocrisy. Rather than acknowledging or making an effort to address the hypocrisy, the response here was to silence the voices calling it out.

Consider the role of the jester, and his cousin, the clown. The clown entertains using comedy, audience interaction, and physical stunts to make people laugh and bring joy. The clown provides fun, if not superficial, unchallenging, entertainment by focusing on physical gags and tricks. The jester, however, provides a more consequential role in society.

The role of a jester in sparking positive change lies in using humor and satire to challenge authority, speak uncomfortable truths, and expose the flaws of those in power.

Though often seen as mere entertainers, jesters historically occupied a unique position with "jester's privilege," a license to mock and critique without facing the severe repercussions that others would. This made them potent, though often subtle, agents of change.

Historically, jesters wielded influence within the court and beyond by:

* Speaking truth to power: Jesters could communicate harsh realities to rulers who were often surrounded by "yes-men" too afraid to contradict them. For example, after the French navy's destruction at the Battle of Sluys in 1340, King Philippe VI's jester delivered the bad news through a sarcastic joke, revealing the truth of the defeat when others wouldn't.

* Providing impartial advice: Unlike other court members seeking favor, a jester could offer rulers fresh, unfiltered perspectives on important matters of state. Their insight often helped heads of state gain perspective and make better decisions.

* Critiquing corruption and injustice: Jesters would often publicly mock corrupt officials, social norms, and the excesses of the ruling elite. This commentary, delivered through wit and observation, served as a subtle, yet impactful form of social critique.

* Exposing hypocrisy: Through their performances, jesters acted as mirrors to society, highlighting its flaws and the hypocrisy of its leaders. This prompted reflection among the court and revealed truths that went otherwise ignored.

Contemporary jesters take the form of late night comedians, animated shows, video memes created by everyday people on platforms like YouTube and TikTok, and more. By removing the role of the jester in society (and more broadly, free speech), those with power to do so are breaking all the mirrors. The proverbial emperor has no clothes, and without a mirror to reveal the facts, nakedness reigns supreme.

Once all the jester voices have been eliminated from society, all we are left with is a bunch of clowns.

If you really want to be honest and truthful, your first sentence should have read, "Late night TV lied. And it lied knowingly. Repeating a lie when you know it is a lie, exposes not only glaring hypocrisy, but the contempt you have in your heart and the disdain you have for those who sign your 17 million dollar paycheck."
Moral of the story: Truth matters.

That is why Celebrity Family Feud will be shown on ABC stations at 11:30 tonight and for the indefinite future (and almost certainly will have higher ratings than the Jimmy Kimmel Show).

Kimmel’s ratings were dismal, 1.1 million vs. 2.8 million for Colbert and 3.1 million for Greg Gutfeld (the first two are on broadcast networks whereas Gutfeld’s on cable).  We know that Colbert’s show was losing $40 million a year despite higher ratings.  I can only imagine how many $millions Kimmel’s was losing.  That’s not censorship.  That’s capitalism.
