Luv2play Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 A jury of 9 has found Mr. Spacey not guilty of sexual assault on numerous complainants in London today. This is the second trial in which the actor has successfully defended himself against charges he forced himself on young men, mostly in the acting community. My advice to Mr. Spacey is that he confine his advances to professional escorts in the future. He would save a lot in legal fees and hassle and still have access to younger attractive guys, which seems to be his proclivity. And nothing wrong with that since I am similarly afflicted. Bucky Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Has he now suffered commensurately for what many consider slimy, predatory behavior?
Stormy Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I’m glad he was acquitted. His accusers crying about s sexual advance two decades ago? I think they just smelled money + augustus, + ButchAtl, Luv2play and 4 others 1 6

+ Lucky Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I was surprised at the verdicts, but it was a strong win for Spacey. Now the question is "Where do I go to get my reputation back?" CuriousByNature and + jeezopete 1 1

I think there are two separate issues here, did he commit sexual assault and was he a sleaze bag. There is a law against the first, and the jury has decided that he did not. That's the end of it unless there was a procedural error that invalidates the trial, which is theoretically possible but unlikely. There is no law against the second, but was there a pattern of inappropriate behaviour, and does it 'deserve' the level of opprobrium he faced? Or should his alleged behaviour be none of our business unless it passes the threshold of criminality. + Lucky and MikeBiDude 2

wsc Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Yelling Fire! two weeks after ignition is unhelpful as well as unbelievable. If you wait practically any time in claiming rape, when evidence is fresh and memories clearer, you have only yourself to blame for later not being believed. And if the accused is rich, or famous, or nominated to the Supreme Court, your belated cries are even more to be suspected. What did you imagine a jury would do? + ButchAtl and pubic_assistance 1 1

And I think the other factor is that the criminal proceedings did not meet the burden of proof required to convict, which would have been beyond a reasonable doubt on an objective level. But whether or not he is a sleaze bag is purely subjective for most people, and society rarely uses the criminal standard in its assessment of those accused of things like assault. In the public eye I doubt the standard even rises to the level of a balance of probabilities, whether it was more likely than not that an assault took place, which would be the standard used if a civil proceeding against Spacey takes place. In any case, whether he was guilty of anything or not, these events will follow him wherever he goes. He will always be known as the actor who was accused of (blank).

Yet, all indications are that everything took place among consenting adults. Quite a bizarre insinuation for someone who's a regular on a website such as this. And, don't go all Fox News on us to claim "Well, I was just raising the question...". Your implication was quite clear. And, yes, there are obviously behaviors which are legal but immoral, but this wasn't one of them (though that's obviously a matter of opinion--one which I'd think most people who hire escorts would share). I can't say I agree with you most of the time, but this time certainly you hit the nail on the head. What's unfortunate is that the defendant gets no compensation for being put through the wringer and having his life mostly ruined--from either the accusers or the prosecutors (all of which, in my opinion, should be held responsible). At least Gwyneth Paltrow got $1 out of the false accusation. 😉

Having read about some of the evidence, such as purported "victims" bragging about their encounters, I guess I (and, presumably @augustus) were less surprised. Those who choose to inform themselves, rather than jump to conclusions, are probably less apt to being surprised. Unfortunately, those who prefer jumping to conclusions are more common on this planet, so the jury's still out--as to whether the real victim, Kevin Spacey, can get his reputation back. 😥 Edited July 27, 2023 by Unicorn
+ jessmapex Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 I might brag about watching a live Kevin Spacey performance or one of his good movies. Nothing to brag about sleeping with him, unless one is into smelling, not his crotch, but a juicy role and the associated $$$ he might hook me them up with.

LMAO I don't know what the tax laws on charitable donations are but here in Canada you can only claim a tax credit on a donation to a Canadian registered charity. And since I have a fair idea of what you'd say, I'll explain it slowly. I neither made nor implied an allegation, snarky or otherwise. I commented on the OP's question. jeezifonly Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 The evidence for the crime charged simply didn’t convince the jury of his guilt. In the US, this happens for the rich and famous all the time. Neither his prolific talent nor his predatory history enter into it. He’s always been this way, and might exercise caution going forward, but he’ll not become a different person. Any young man putting himself within Spacey’s reach should remain alert. Vulgarii 1
