Monkey Pox Escort Risk ?

I have an appointment with a very well known and popular older escort coming up in 2 weeks.  He says he is vaxed for Monkey Pox and given the length of time he has been in this market I would tend to take his word for that.  I can't get the shots because of an existing drug I take but I need to be careful not to get this virus as I have underlying medical risk like age etc.  

Any of you have extensive medical background on these viruses.?  As long as this guy is indeed vaxed do I run the risk of his still carrying the virus to me?  Can't decide what to do about this since Monkey Pox is still relatively new.

While the individual in question may be older and popular, ultimately you are trusting him at his word that he is vaccinated.  That is a risk in and of itself.  I think everyone needs to protect themselves against any ailments that could be contracted from a provider, irrespective of the provider's stated vaccine or health status.  I'm sorry to hear that your medications prevent you from receiving the vaccine yourself.  I know very little about Monkeypox, and I do not have medical training, but it concerns me that this decision involves taking someone else (and essentially a stranger) at their word.  Remember, this individual has a vested interest in meeting with you, and it is easy for someone to say they are vaccinated in order to diminish the fears that potential clients might have.   All the best to you with whatever choice you make.

Someone with a medical background can keep me honest, but the data is still pending on how well the vaccines are at preventing infection, the benefits are more on reducing the severity of MPX and hopefully reduce the spread, which they seem to have done in the US.

You are the best person to judge how much risk you can handle, but I personally would not see anyone (especially an escort who have increased risk of MPX infection due to their job) if I couldn't protect myself with the vaccine.

If your concern is whether or not they have had the vax, you can always ask to see their card which they receive for each shot they get. It is dated and has their name and the dosage they received.

Of course, they would have to disclose their real identity to you which they may not be willing to do.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we were vaccinated in the 60s and early-70s against smallpox, etc. AND had boosters through our childhood years  - aren't we vaxxed from MPX ?  I believe that is what I've been reading all along.  I believe those vaxs were phased out in the late 70s. 

 

My understanding is that MPX is prevalent among younger (mid-40s and younger) clients and providers.  Please correct any misinformation I have on this.

I saw my doctor two days ago on Monday and this came up in conversation. For some background, he's a private physician (doesn't do insurance; you pay him directly) who is also a friend of mine for more than 20 years. He mentioned that community cases of MP are negligible at the moment. Everyone organized and got vaccinated this summer and early fall and he said it really isn't too much of a cause for concern anymore. The vaccines work great and even if you're exposed, as long as you have the vax, you'll get a mild case with hardly any symptoms. I know someone out there has a best friend who has a cousin who's sister's boyfriend knows this guy who's going with this girl who saw Ferris had a bad case of MP last weekend. But in all reality, it's fine. Of course you should weigh your own personal risk but having had both MP jabs, I don't even think about it anymore personally.

Agree.  I got my monkeypox vaccines anyway, but I waited until there was enough supply in my community so they could accommodate my request for standard subcutaneous injection instead of the emergency-only authorized intradermal method, in order to avoid the possibility of scaring.

Just as an aside, please get your FLU shot this year.  The vax is 60% effective, which is considered 'excellent' in the medical community (usually the strain is 10-20% effective) and the flu is rather prevalent this year as more and more people are ditching their masks this winter.

I ran an AIDS Information Hotline back in the 80s, and the questions we got over the phone revealed how little most people did know about HIV, and what bizarre ideas some of them had. The Internet certainly is a big improvement in the transmission of information, though not necessarily in people's understanding of that information.

I just got mine today. Unfortinately the pharmacy didn't have the senior stronger version so I took the regular. Have had the shots for the last 15 years and haven't had a single case during that period.

If you were vaccinated for smallpox you will have SOME protection against monkeypox as both are Orthopox virus your body will recognize it. Unfortunately you would have needed to receive boosters over the years to currently be immune.

Your reduced risk through an old small pox vaccination would likely come with a reduced infection...but keep in mind immune systems are unique to the individual, so there are no guarantees.
