Catching an STI from a provider?

All sexually active adults are at risk of getting STDs.

The actual risk is variable depending on sexual acts, number of exposures
and the risks level of your sexual partners. Most escorts are frequently sexually
active with different partners. That alone places them (and conversely you)
at a higher risk of catching STDs. Add unsafe sex into the mix and the risk
skyrockets.

Please realize that I’m not "whore shaming" anyone. I love sex, and I have it
as often as I can with as many different partners as I can. Nonetheless, we
need to be honest with ourselves and the risks we expose ourselves to.

Had a scare once when a provider notified me that he had been exposed and therefore I had been exposed to an STD.  I thanked him for the heads-up, got tested, waited 10 days, got tested again, but nothing came from it.  Ultimately it is up to you to protect yourself by taking the necessary precautions.

The most important thing is knowledge. Good escorts (and really good clients) get tested regularly and quickly notify clients of any potential issues. I did actually get Chlamydia from an escort but was able to test and treat very quickly because he tested frequently and informed me quickly as well.

In my opinion, the risk of STDs is actually higher if you're having frequent Grindr hookups over frequent escort hookups. Not every dude on Grindr tests themselves regularly or even cares or knows how to contact you if they did catch something.

As a client, this is also something that should be part of your escort conversation. How frequently do you get tested? Do you notify your clients if you test positive for an STD?

If you don't like their answers, then maybe don't spend time with them.

Anyone who’s sexually active is always at the risk of catching an std. Its just the known risk you take when you have sex, especially as gay men. All it takes is one sexual encounter for you to come in contact with an STD. It’s always just important for everyone to be educated on stds/hiv, as well as monthly testing to prevent spreading. Also like to add the importance of being on preventives for HIV such as PreP.

We didn't get an STI but we did have a provider who contacted us when he tested positive for gonorrhea. He called and seemed very nervous. I assured him that I was very glad he contacted us, and we made arrangements to get tested. We were negative. To me, this showed me that he was professional and care about his clients.

We've wanted to hire him again but he does this part time so our schedules just haven't aligned.

I've had sexual encounters with about 1,000 men (rounding to the nearest thousand).  Let's say 800 were free and 200 were paid providers.  I've had about 5 STIs.  Some if not all of those were from the free encounters.

I'll let you do the math to figure if STIs from paid providers are a common occurrence.

Imagine if you have charged some of the lucky 800 who had you for free...

100 × 500 tricks = 50,000 in cash and tax free...

Back to subject we all take risks while hiring or having sex for fun. Because of prep we're more likely to catch some minor STDs that are treatable while avoiding playing Russian roulette. Let's get often!

So far every single time I had symptoms like discharge and it was treated right away.

It is not tax free.  I would obey the tax law 😇 and report the income.

But I'd also charge much less than $100.  I've settled for a 🥩 steak dinner, or taxi🚕 fare home, or a $10 bill 💵 thrown on my ass after he unloads in it 💦 .  We've all paid for sex in one way or another, even if it's just buying dinner on the date.

Back to the topic, I get checked for STIs every few months. If I test positive I notify my encounters by either giving the local health district their telephone number if I know it, or through a dating app if that's how we met.  If it was just a guy I met at a bar or dark alley and didn't get his telephone number, then that person I can't contact.  Hence why random hookups have the potential to spread STIs faster than paid providers who can be contacted when exposure is discovered.

Very paranoid about this and just curious if it happens more frequently than not.

i usually trust the provider. it’s their clients they’ve been with since last tested.

Yes. I didn't have an active infection, but he texted me and told me he had just had a PCR  that showed gonorrhea signal.  The next day I went straight to the doc and got treatment.  The whole thing was distasteful, but it was nobody's fault and I appreciated him notifying me as soon as he found out.

Just wondering - did you test positive and get treatment or just get treatment without a test? When I told my local clinic that an escort had tested positive for an STI, they tested me and gave me antibiotics to take, but the test came back negative so I didn’t need them.

I've had an STI twice in my approximately twenty year sexual life both from a non provider hookup. So not too bad. Both times it was either gonorrhea or chlamydia. The symptoms are basically the same so not sure which one exactly. The doctor said there is no point in extra analysis to determine which one as it doesn't change the treatment.  Went to the doctor both times and was quickly cured. Got some antibiotics the first time and a shot the second.

I got treatment without a test.

That’s not necessarily correct.

You may have just been too early in the disease process to turn the test positive.
Or just a plain old false negative. Early after exposure, I would just treat.
If fact, the error may not have been in treating you….but in testing you.
