They have not admitted that. Their explanation for lifting the restrictions is that the surge has flattened and ICU capacity is rising. Whether that is true, and whether they are lifting the restrictions too soon are other issues.

One has to wonder how much the campaign to recall Newsom is affecting the governor's decision to lift restrictions.

In California we are upset with Gavin for this bullshit. You don't relax when a curve flattens - you maintain in order to point that sucker down. We are going to just keep riding this goddamn wave if we don't stick with orders for longer. I spend time in LA, and it's sad to see so many million entitled people get frustrated by something that they claim they can't see - they can't see it because they don't live in black and brown neighborhoods, most their friends are under 40, and they don't hang out at hospitals.

Yes! Pretty much the same everywhere. The privileged want things to "go back to normal" at the expense of essential workers' health, who are overwhelming black and brown people, particularly women. And of course the privileged get the vaccine before everyone else somehow too.

Officials in Riverside County today canceled the Coachella and Stagecoach Festivals scheduled for April.

The area's big tennis tournament, the Indian Wells Masters 1000, was canceled back in mid-December. If you're a tennis fan, this tournament is a really Big Deal.

Looks like Modernism Week has been moved to the same weekend as our Palm Springs weekend. I guess they figure they can carry that out with the right precautions in place... definitely more believable than a big giant music festival. And that would be a fun addition for the weekend, particularly for those staying on into the next week.

I've got my flight and hotel reservations all set, but based on my age and the current state of the vaccinations it's looking doubtful I'll have my vaccines in time. I'm keeping everything in place for now, because a lot can change in two months. Fingers crossed, but it's all refundable just in case

There has been talk of it possibly being rescheduled to autumn, if the pandemic situation has improved by then.

Were you ever in the military and received an honorable discharge?

I ask this because even if you have private health coverage and are not age 65 + and if you are an honorably discharged veteran, you can sign up online for the Veterans Administration health care. It takes about an hour to sign up and scan a few documents (including your Form DD-214).

I was approved for VA benefits within a few days of applying online. When I asked about a coronavirus vaccine, I was immediately given an appointment for the initial dose plus the second dose.

Just because you sign up for VA health does not mean you must continue with VA in the future. You must disclose your health insurance details when you apply online. VA is fine with the fact that I have private health insurance.

You want that vaccination - If you gave part of your life to the military, the early vaccination is a nice benefit/reward for your service.

Depending on where you live, you might find a VA facility near. The vaccinations must be administered at a VA site.

If you qualify for VA benefits and have the vaccinations, you can make the Palm Springs event if it occurs.

I wasn’t in the military, but this is good information for those who were. I know there are quite a few here, among both the clients and escorts! ??

A friend of mine whose husband is a disabled vet got the shot for him through the VA in Florida a couple of weeks ago; she still has been unable to get the shot herself.

Sorry to learn of your friend's wife/caregiver not being given the coronavirus shot when her husband got the vaccination.

Below is a link that you might consider forwarding to your friend.

The link is for caregivers to get a coronavirus shot via the VA.

I do not know if your friend's wife qualifies under the rules but it is worth a chance to look.

For purposes of putting medical personnel near the front of the line for the vaccine, this program is a close runner-up.

I think ?? this is the Canyon Club in Palm Spgs, one of the less-expensive clothing-optional lodging choices for the forum weekend....thanks to @Whitman for posting this picture he took of me at the last forum weekend :p

I had my first Phizer vaccine inoculation on Friday, 2/5 and am scheduled for the second on Friday, 2/26 at Soka University in Aliso Viejo. I have lived in Orange County for over 50 years and had one hell of a time finding the place.

There is now NO DOUBT that I will be attending the Weekend. Hope to see you all there.

To all:

I'm sorry for the bad news but I had to cancel my reservation at the INNDulge. I'm only 39 and I checked and it's highly unlikely that I'll get both vaccinations before the gathering in April (I thought I could try loitering around the clinics and wait for any non-used vaccines that would still be available after all the lines are gone but apparently, other people who aren't in the restricted-groups are already doing that). So to not risk myself or my mother (who's 73 and still needs me to come over to her house once a week to help her), I'll pass.

So I won't be able to make the Palm Springs event this year, but on the bright side, anyone who wants my reservation is free to do so. Just call INNDulge and ask for any openings after my cancelation.

It stinks but there's always next year. And if I recall correctly, there's also a forum gathering in Washington DC, correct? I never have been to the capital, so that would be a good vacation. :)

Yup, that's Canyon Club. I can't believe the forum weekend is only two months away!

The Canyon Club is fine. The price is right and so is the location. It is clean but could use some tender loving care, however, a number of the Weekend participants love it and wouldn't say anyplace else. It is "rustic".

Seems a little steep, but I checked the reviews and one guy got both rats and cockroaches so it's starting to sound like my kind of place! http://www.boytoy.com/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif

For those who know the rooms, is a poolside room a good idea? Or would a pool view be better? All things being equal, I think I'd rather watch folks carrying on than hear them carrying on. http://www.boytoy.com/public/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif

Unless I'm carrying on myself, and then the less commotion outside the better.
