At least four people in Alabama have died after jumping off of moving boats in the past six months, officials said.

"...Capt. Jim Dennis of the Childersburg Rescue Squad told NBC News the four people died in the state over the past six months after jumping out of boats. "The four that we responded to when they jumped out of the boat, they literally broke their neck and, you know, basically an instant death," Dennis said. The TikTok stunt is not new, with videos posted of people jumping out of moving boats since 2020, but more people are trying the challenge as they're out on the water during the summer months....". 😲

Landscaper fatally runs over homeless woman sleeping in California park with lawnmower

I know people in California are into some really freaky stuff, but why was she sleeping with a lawnmower?

In case members want to read the original article (taken up by that New York Post headline 2 days later):

https://www.sacbee.com/news/california/article277265433.html

"A woman was killed Saturday afternoon when a landscaping crew mowed over her in Beard Brook Park... During the Modesto City Council meeting Tuesday evening, Dez Martinez with the homeless advocacy group We Are Not Invisible spoke during the public comment section about the incident. She addressed council members and city staff on behalf of Chavez’s father. She said the victim, who was unhoused, was asleep on the grass when she was hit by the lawn mower...

This is the second fatality in the city in recent years involving a crew cleaning up an area and inadvertently killing a homeless person. In August 2018, 32-year-old Shannon Bigley was crushed to death by heavy machinery operated by a Caltrans employee. Crews had been cleaning up a homeless encampment along Highway 99 south of Kansas Avenue in central Modesto when a front-loader operator dropped the bucket onto what he thought was a pile of trash. But Bigley was inside sleeping and was killed..."

Not invisible, but not visible enough, it seems. 😥 I don't know if the lawnmower and heavy machinery were really quiet. One might expect the racket to wake most people up.
