I generally like to have a low key catered dinner at home

with 10-12 close friends. No presents. No crazy cakes

or balloons. Just a civilized dinner.

The milestones are another thing....I usually celebrate them

with casts of thousands (ok....hundreds). I think people should

commemorate birthdays more....fuck it....we survived a fucking

plague folks....be thankful and celebrate life!

After I graduated from university I learned I won a postgraduate scholarship. With a lot of unexpected cash I flew to New York City and went to my very first Broadway show. My only regret is that I have never had sex on my birthday.

I turn 60 next year, another milestone birthday. Already looking at things to do to make it ‘special’.

One thing I had been looking at was a cruise to Bermuda, having never been there. But for a single occupancy cabin it’s rather pricey, plus when you add in all the extras it gets expensive.

So I just may hit Broadway again for a few shows, especially the iconic “Phantom of the Opera” which I’ve seen on the National Tour, but that one is a re-imagined version and quite different in staging than the one at the Majestic Theater in NYC. I’ll have to see what else is still showing when I book the airline tickets and hotel.

Always a treat now to plan what I want to do for my next birthday! :)

Today’s the day!!! Celebrating birthday #59 today in the Playhouse Square theater district of beautiful downtown Cleveland - staying just steps away from the State Theater - and the evening performance of the Philip Cast in “Hamilton”. Yeah! This is only the fourth performance of the show in Cleveland since it started on July 17th, and it’ll be here until August 26th.

Had the opportunity to tour the very large, ornate, and gorgeous lobby of the State Theater and saw tonight’s listing of performers: very glad to see Jospeh Morales playing! Also, standing in as Charles Lee will be Phil Colgan, and as Philip Schuyler/James Reynold/Doctor will be Julian Ramos, with swing Camden Gonzales performing.

Looking forward to the show!!!

  • 2 years later...

The entire NBA is anxiously waiting to see if Giannis Antetokounmpo will sign a contract extension before the 12/21 deadline. Today was his birthday; the whole Bucks team sang Happy Birthday to him at practice, then 2 of his closest pals on the team gave him the perfect present... a set of fancy pens.

As for myself, I usually just call my long-lost twin brother Jeff Stryker. We were born on the same day.

This year, I watched my 69th Birthday pass by, watching CNN on TV..... As I got older I find the importance and need for celebrations for my B-Day seemed less and less. Its really just Another Day !

However I remember my best birthday was my partner taking me to White Castle (which is my FAVORITE food), and having this cute little B-day setup with balloons and crap, and he had samplings of EVERYTHING on the menu set out on the table like a Buffet... I couldnt have asked for a better B-day. He has since passed on but I have that beautiful memory. .

I rarely do anything special. I stopped buying or expecting presents for birthdays & Christmas years ago, now I just buy presents when I see something I think someone would appreciate. A friend of 25 years and I would take each other out for dinner around our birthdays, but it was always a haphazard thing. One year I treated myself to hiring two escorts on my birthday, I got a room with a hot tub; it was good but not great. One guy was someone I'd seen multiple times and was great, the other was new to the business and was a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing.

Today would have been my mother's 88th's birthday, since she died 8 years ago I have been going to her favorite restaurant, Red Lobster.

My only big birthday celebrations were on my 40th and 50th. My 40th was a big dinner party at my house with all my friends. Tons of good food and champagne, the real French stuff. They pooled their money and bought me a silver champagne cooler, which I still have.

By my 50th birthday, almost all my friends who had been at my 40th were dead of AIDS. I still have the pictures of them seated at my dining room table, little knowing what the future had in store. I went to NYC by myself for my 50th and had a wonderful time, meeting some really nice people at the gay B&B I stayed at and socializing with them. Also hired an escort for one evening.

My 60th and 70th were quiet. But this year, in the lull of the pandemic early in the summer, I hired an escort for the weekend to stay with me at home. It was a lovely weekend and he was the perfect person to share the time and experience with me.

I’m hoping my birthday next year will be against the backdrop where the vaccine has changed our outlook for the future. So here’s hoping.

Just to update post #25, this year friends were going to take me out to a restaurant for my birthday, but the day before, the governor shut down all the restaurants for the first time because of the virus. I thought, well, we'll do it next year. Now I am beginning to wonder. My spouse's 85th birthday/our 52nd anniversary passed this summer with no celebration at all.

Not sure if Charlie's post should get a "like" or a "sad." I guess both!

God bless you both and may your enviously long relationship continue. Had I of known about your specials days, I would have "postMated" you a celebration cake....?

Did you know that due to the pandemic, the White Castle on Queens Blvd near the Queens Center mall is not 24 hours at this point? I noticed it was closed (with a homeless person sleeping on a bench out front) when I passed by at 5:55 AM on my way recently to StopAndShop for their senior hour. I looked it up online and they close from 5AM to 10AM every day. (BTW, the StopAndShop on Grand Ave has a roving, disinfecting robot that meanders around the store now.)

The one on Queens Blvd in Sunnyside is still 24 hours, per the 'interweb'.

Miami Heat All-Star center Bam Adebayo gave his mom the birthday present of a lifetime on Sunday. After years of struggling while living together in a single-wide trailer home, Adebayo bought his mom, Marilyn Blount, a home she can call her own.

Just a couple weeks after signing a five-year max extension that could earn him close to $200 million if he hits certain escalators, Adebayo surprised his mom with a memorable gift on her 56th birthday.

"My mom never had nothing that she could call her own," Adebayo said during a Monday video conference with reporters. "So growing up and being able to do something different with basketball and be a special player, that was something that I've always had in my mind, I've always wanted to do. And just having the opportunity to do it for my mom is an incredible experience."

Back in my clubbing days, I would often head to the 24/7 White Castle for "solace" burgers after "last call" and coming up empty handed for Mr. Right Now....

6 burgers with an onion rings would make me feel helluva lot better.... If I was really depressed, and horny, I got a shake too ! ?

These days, I'm in bed by 8 pm

We did big celebrations for our Mother's & Father's 70th birthdays. Mom was a big dinner in a private room in a restaurant with the family, Dad was a bigger surprise party with family & friends. Both outstate siblings with their families came in for both parties. At Dad's party, I was tending the bar and a neighbor complained about how I was making his drink; I told him not to argue with the guy who was serving you alcohol.

For quite a few years after turning 50 I gave up on birthdays. I live by myself, have relatively few friends, and fewer co-workers or neighbors who care.

Due to some drastic changes in my health a few years ago I decided to start treating myself: go up to a Pirates ball game or see big musical performance, have a special meal in a fancy restaurant (since I rarely eat out), and/or plan something special by going somewhere I’ve never been.

I’d be interested in hearing what amazing things you do on your birthdays. Whether it was small, huge, and something in between, what did you do that was special for your birthday?

Thanks for this thread! Maybe I should do something special for my birthday in 2 weeks (I can DM you my address should you feel compelled to send me gifts - nice or kinky...lol). I probably would just want a really relaxing time to myself although I did schedule an erotic massage with my favorite local masseur on that day. There are other years when I would just treat myself to a spa - get my nails did, haircut, facials (like actual facials not the ? kind).

I loved you before, but this cements my lifelong devotion.

Just consider me the prince who's scaling the walls of your White Castle.

I guess then we have a MUTUAL admiration society ? And if I ever saw you scale my walls, I would grab you by your jockstrap and pull you inside...

(for a White Castle snack)..... Judging by your beautiful body, I would never think you would eat anything like that, but if you ever find yourself in NYC, I would be "honored" to take you on a lunch date for a few "belly busters"....
