I've always had facial hair and the trend that people hopped on started many, many years ago, when bears were fully embraced.   Everyone realized there's no shame in embracing your natural body hair. Did you view their profiles and photos repeatedly without hiring them?  If so, they might have blocked you as a lurker who was not serious about hiring them.

I am a person that grows a beard and shaves it off with regularity.  It may be that an escort might be similar in his approach.  So asking if they have facial hair is no big deal.  If you have a preference, you could ask if they are planning on changing that in the near future.  Sometimes, that might be the impetus to make the change.

I just like the way facial hair adds shape and texture to a face. It's a positive and negative space thing for me. Like having a painting of a landscape and the sky is blue with no clouds. You add a couple clouds in to break up the monotony of all that blue and it's more pleasing to my eye. Facial hair does that to the male face for me.

I really prefer my men clean shaven, with zero facial hair. Being a it of the contrarian, I sport a tightly groomed full gray beard. Hemingway style, Wolf Blitzer type of beard.

It's really all about taste. For me, I have ALWAYS loved facial hair. One of the catalogs we got when I was an early gayling (MontgomeryWard?) was the only one that had male models with facial hair and I made much use of it. Beards, as long as they are not ZZ Top length, are hot. Goatee? Excellent. Van Dyke? YES!. Biker handlebar mustache? Let me have a seat. It's all good to me. I was THRILLED when (and when was that? 10-15 years ago?) beards started making a big come back. 
But I can certainly see how the beard trend would be a bummer for folks who don't like them.  It seems perfectly reasonable to ask what sort of facial hair a provider is sporting. I like most facial hair styles other than curly mustaches and big bushy lumberjack beards that are so thick you have to part the forest to find their lips to kiss 😆 (no offense if either of those are you). I'm also not into it when the facial hair line up is soooo sharp that it looks drawn on.

Agreed.  And while I can appreciate smooth muscle, I prefer hairy.  I've been tempted to ask providers who shaved their chest to let it grow out before we meet up.

There's a weird anti-tattoo obsession with some members here. I can understand if you're not into tattoos and someone is covered. But in a lot of circumstances, you could meet someone, find them hot, and then head back to their place before ever realizing they have one or more tattoos. If you met me in the fall or winter, none of my tattoos would be visible until I got undressed. 

I don't mind a beard, stubble or clean shaven. For me, it's about physical attributes and sensuality.
