is this the "new normal" attitude?
JB_Studio38 replied to + DrownedBoy's topic in Questions About Hiring
Let’s turn the script around for a minute: The escort inputs their available now green light in the morning. Any client who doesn’t contact by say: 3 pm hotel check in or 12 pm checkout time, misses their chance. Or, I contact all my regulars and ask if they can meet “today”, and if they don’t respond in a generous, lengthy 30 minutes, I’ll book another client and they’ll miss their turn. Even though; I reached out to them saying I’m available. You don’t have to answer because I already know what it would be: likely not. Most clients who expect us to be available at drop of dime, are generally never are themselves when the escort reaches out of the blue. I texted 2 clients this week about sessions that they reached out to me for. Neither one has replied and it’s been over 24 hours. One requested to meet today, I’ve not heard nothing back since Tuesday. At the same time: I understand the dynamic is different and at times it’s necessary to arrange things on same day notice. But we’ve already heard several examples of providers who don’t show their phone numbers or do same day visits. How do they get clients in a “moment’s notice” culture? I think at the end of the day, it helps to know escorts are people just like clients. Having an ad and phone number on the internet is no guarantee of availability. Even on free sites: nobody is really ever available when you want it, unless they’re on drugs or it’s late at night. Dates just don’t work that way. I feel if someone regularly approaches with that mentality, they may be more off seeking fun at a bathhouse where everybody is already ready. Speaking of Ludicrous and minute men: lol -
That’s always a good way of doing it. I’ve also at times passed out my biz card, which mentions nothing of prices or sex work. It’s almost just a “this is title and way of contact”. I’ve been able to gain some bookings from it that way. However, I find the app to be a bit more work and rejection than I’m willing to add on to from the other sites. Sometimes if I’m in a gay open minded/wealthy/limited area market that I know guys are more open to pay, I may do so. But I’m finding sadly Adam4Adam is losing its market rapidly, to where it’s barely functioning to get clients anymore. On a recent tour to several cities, I probably only got like 1 or 2 A4A clients show up.. out of maybe a dozen ago inquired. And many like to do the not give out phone number thing, and I don’t book anyone from it without one. Mainly because the ones who don’t, usually don’t show up. So I might need to retap into the Grindr/Scruff market myself. Especially since RentMen and Masseur can be fairly non existent in many areas. That’s the thing, often it is someone who’s an occasional hire or need a degree of hand holding to get to the point. I also do feel compelled to offer a discount of some of my rates considering it’s free advertising. Plus people don’t tend to have the same rate there as the other sites. I was looking at a site, googled near me called “escort alligator” with takes to various sub sites. I went on there, and I only seen (questionable looking) guys offering stuff for like 100/150. Even though some see that as a comfortable rate, that’s not sustainable Full time escort rate.

This is a good gesture on your part. I also own a couple vehicles, and not only is gas expensive but my commute to clients can generally be pretty far. I either travel between cities or have to drive to neighborhoods/areas of town where clients are more common. Which has often meant going clear across town. Which I don’t mind…but it adds up day to day, and a nice gesture is welcome. Yes, between that and reviews, it too is a welcome gesture. But I must say: that does assume an escort is frequenting said area often enough to “be back in town”. Some areas I do visit every few weeks/couple months, but others I may not tour again for a year or 2. Or in the case of my last tour: places I haven’t been in years. Unless an escort is consistently hitting the same locations for a regular period of time, it’s often that the same clients won’t be available when they’re back. With that being the case, it doesn’t hurt to add a bit of extra thanks at the end. Don’t wait until “next time” to show extra gratitude, it can be done while the time is present. I’m glad I didn’t even notice this. Way back in August lol. This person sounds like a regenerated troll, based on his previous posts. I hope everyone has enough integrity and common sense not to feed into such vile, discouraging, hating, spiteful, and lack of decency and inconsiderate language. People like this, will likely suffer later in life for how they treat people. If they aren’t already. In fact, the very fact this person claims I “always have problems” is in itself a giveaway of what perception this person holds. Which is a shitty one. All I was doing was describing a circumstance that I encountered. The negative commentary was very unnecessary, childish, and petty. Get a life, Seriously. The world is at war, people are getting sick and dying everyday. People are having a hard time just trying to get by day to day. Nobody has a right to unprovoked negativity and nonsense. Keep that shit to yourself, where it belongs Now that’s addressed, back to the topic at hand 👏🏽

The “poster of this thread” doesn’t sound like a provider to me. But if you’re referring to me, I suggest maybe you be less condescending and judgmental about how someone chooses to do biz. Some people think just because we put boundaries in place to create a more workable relation with clients, that somehow it equates to not being right for the business. I have a right to run things the way I choose to, and I’m choosing to based on what the current trends have already proven. And what’s proven is: unless I want to have my time wasted day in, day out: I can’t operate the same way I did before, it takes evolving and having the courage to believe I can. And if anyone else think it’s just me, someone reached out to me earlier and informed me this: hi, I know a provider who so far had 3 NO shows this year, a total record, he also says the amount of teasers has increased dramatically. So yeah, it’s where things are right now. If someone thinks I need to find another line of work: in that case everybody in it needs to find another line of work.

Good call. I’m 6’2…and hover around 205-210 pounds. I generally plateau at about 212-215 pounds. I’d have to be in the gym almost daily and eating massively to get beyond that. The guy pictured would be more like 225 pounds.

I hear you wholeheartedly, unfortunately this is just the way I have to do things. I am tired and fatigued of people contacting me and not being serious. I’m not even talking about people with genuine interest, just randoms. I know there are still good clients like the old days, but now it’s just too much games and BS. I can’t count how many times I get inquiries, often wanting stuff short notice and then I interrupt to accommodate, only for them to stop responding or come up with some last minute excuse: ” my son came home early “my coworker just walked in ”I got Covid “My wife just walked in ” sorry I can’t meet in 45 minutes, that’s too late ”can you meet now? ”Can you (drive somewhere an hour away on short notice) I’ve been doing this for 12 years. At some point, the realization comes that my ad has more than enough details for clients to make a decision before they reach me. Many inquiries are commentary or fantasies that don’t hold much weight. They’re hoping to get something with minimum effort and commitment, which was fine for Grindr/Craigslist, but not when I’m paying $79.99+ to be on a site. I’m paying upfront to advertise, buy supplies, have a phone and transportation + accommodations: therefore I need people who are going to invest something off the bat, not just speculation and false hopes. As far as being available for the day and time a person is looking for: that’s what a consultation is for. To be available, I have to coordinate that with the client. The consultation/deposit for the initial setup still applies. If the time doesn’t work for the person, they just have to use that as a token towards a future visit. When I have made exceptions and not taken deposits/consultation fee, some have still fell thru. The ones who don’t are likely to fall thru/change their minds last minute anyway. I went thru my phone yesterday and unblocked all the numbers (something like 30-50) stored on my phone. Something I try to do every 6 months to give 2nd chances. I was looking thru messages and seeing what might of prompted me to do so. Even when I was easy and “user friendly” (like someone on the forum described), they didn’t follow thru. Some I gave my address to, or arranged sessions with, and they couldn’t be bothered to show up or even give me a response. So now, I have to play hard ball. Being high demand can be a blessing and a curse. You have to take what you can, but limit the access people have.

Don’t get me started on California. The hotel rates are exorbitant. San Francisco was reasonable the week I went, but Palm Springs, and places I wanted to go to like San Raphael and Napa were above and beyond. Sometimes I feel hotels purposely make themselves expensive for the sake of keeping cheap and undesirables away.
-
Yeah hotel rates and their corresponding deposits for the budget companies have been a bit higher since post lockdown. I usually always strive to stay in decent accommodations, even if it’s not Marriott or Hilton. But a budget hotel can easily end up being $200-$250 if they charge an extra deposit. I try to book via the hotel as much as possible nowadays, not really doing 3rd party discount sites unless its a city that has a lot of mid and high rise hotels for reasonable prices.

It was never worth it to me to fly even when it was cheaper. Flight, baggage (packing light is not a concept for me lol), then staying in expensive downtown or boring airport hotel. Then fees and prices here and there…all add up, and if a client or 2 don’t show up, that’s an instant lost. Add to that, if you need to stay longer or end it shorter…you’re at the mercy of a flight ticket. Only time I would fly if it were a particular weekend session, in a place with a client I could trust.

Do you believe the ones who call in sick the day of?
JB_Studio38 replied to JB_Studio38's topic in Questions About Hiring
This is most ethical behavior. I wish more had the same integrity. Getting Covid is hard news, but at the end of the day it’s not the provider’s fault nor should they have to lose out. I had a client who cancelled the day of claiming Covid from a party he went to the night before, that someone apparently said they had tested positive. So he cancelled “so he could get tested”. Which of course he did. Still waiting to get cancellation fee. I assume this could be why many providers only accept bookings from people who are “ready now”, but I’m not in a position where I can work that way all the time. Plus even that isn’t any surefire way to prevent last minute flakes. I decided I need to up my deposit to HALF the session price going forward. People cancel and leave me hanging, and I’m not just “available” 24/7 or on short notice, so that often leaves me not able to fill in apppintments right away. I’m just so tired of being lead on and my time wasted and then being short on money I relied on to take care of other things. The amount of games and BS is become highly discouraging and disappointing. It’s almost nobody can be relied on. I haven’t had an actual appointment follow thru now in over a week. And I don’t even count that because the guy was someone I blocked 2 years ago, and he snuck thru using text mail to reach me. He has a habit of ending the session abruptly, and seems he has a mental disorder. Doesn’t help though that my area is particularly high client turnover, and many of the “potential” clients who have contacted me in the area have been blocked due to annoying/flaky behavior or failure to follow advance notice policy when booking (random shit like texting me every few months for me to host on short notice, or cancelling a pre-scheduled visit and not leaving any form of deposit or cancellation fee). -
Here’s an article from another industry, which includes real life responses: that should help squash every “deposit=scam” rumor out there for good (would be nice lol) https://behindthechair.com/articles/what-would-you-do-charging-your-clients-deposits-for-appointments/amp/ “Always charge a deposit for long appointments and new clients. We are too busy for wasted appointments. If they are serious they pay the deposit no questions asked!” – @thehairboutique814 “I always take deposits. I take 50 percent deposits for color…No deposit, no appointment! Simple as that.” – @lucieluella

Reality is: even cash paying clients can still do a deposit as well. There’s ways. Some have even mailed me cash, which I don’t recommend but…something better than nothing. As for losing cash paying guys, the thing is: They’ll probably be lost anyway. Again: it assumes if, IF they actually fully go thru with it. Which, lately it seems they don’t. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. Who knows? All I know is: Me being a paid provider doesn’t start AFTER the session or AFTER I book a hotel or AFTER I drive to XYZ. It starts the moment I pay $79.99 or $39.99 on RM. The unfortunate part is there are scammers out there who mess things up for the genuine ones. But there’s also bad apple clients who mess it up for the potential good ones too. Like I say, some clients talk about being “taken” once or twice. Whereas I may deal with a similar situation multiple times in a month. It’s also true that some markets require a deposit more than others. I know for a fact, I refuse to work in Denver or Kansas City without a deposit these days. Same as with Atlanta, Chicago or other overly escorted cities. But right now, it’s not so much a market/city thing but more of a personal need. I need to be able to do other things with my time, besides being contacted all hours of the day at random by people who are just making “inquiries” and not following thru.
-
Unless it’s someone like me with lots of good reviews 😉 https://rentmen.eu/Jarrod_Brandon I wish I could still do things without a deposit like I used to, being able to do things without much screening effort. But I feel because of the disappearance of craigslist, RM has become the “universal” site for all kinds of hookups. There’s people who I know personally, have RM client profiles, and have 0 intention on actually hiring someone. Or if they do, they’ll waste time of many before actually booking anything. Which they’ll likely cancel anyway. So I’m all about debunking this myth that guys asking for cash upfront is a scam. True, some who are may be. But that doesn’t speak for all. I charge deposits “exclusively”, and you won’t see anybody on my review page talking about I scammed them. considering this is ask a provider, I think it’s only fair providers speak up.
-
What sure proof do you have that it’s a scam other than the ad disappearing? Escorts can also “freeze” their ads to where it disappears but still active. The likely reason I can see for that is: maybe they don’t want to be “available and visible” round the clock. They may want to post when they are available, and shut it down when they aren’t. Avoid spending too much time if there not available. A provider could ask for a deposit close to the time because if two or more clients are trying to fit the same time, if the provider turns 1 down and the other flakes last minute (as @Jamie21 once described, then the provider likely gets neither client. So to better confirm the session, the deposit gives a better assurance than just relying someone to show up. However as I mentioned, people haven’t had issues sending me deposits. But I have also moved from ”deposits to confirm” to “consultation fee” because it gets infuriating having a potential client, and then they cancel when I ask for deposit. So better to just get it right away for the pure cost of my time coordinating things, which is something I deserve to be paid for.

It’s very good you mentioned that, but I’m actually doing very similar to this right now via my own website. I don’t have “products” yet per say, but moved a lot of my content off RentMen and OF platforms. It’s actually been working pretty well, but I’m still trying to keep active in building it. And you’re right, signing up to the site eliminates the “deposit” since it technically is the deposit. However, I’ve had a couple people sign up and like you say; still mess around with the planning of in person session. For those instances, I’ve had to handle appropriately. Well the fact that it was a new provider (assuming you mean newly created ad and not someone traveling) and the person gave the address before getting the deposit, is where the error is. It’s not because of the deposit itself. If I ask for deposits, I do it before sending the address. Otherwise, that defeats the screening process. I don’t want to be giving out my hotel, apartment or air bnb address at random. If they’re not sending deposit, there’s no need to send my address. Or like some people say: “where are you staying?” Non of your business. Send me the deposit and then we can exchange all that info. Before you book and pay an Uber, do you get to see the list of exactly what kind of car, what the person looks like, how big their dick is…before you pay? Exactly. That’s why I say there’s no need for me to coordinate bookings for free anymore. They’re getting enough free stuff already. For me to have to do any extra work for free (texting, dirty talk, driving, etc.), is borderline sweatshop labor. I’m sure there’s also some “good” stories about people actually paying deposits as well. I can say: EVERYONE who has sent me a deposit, has received their session in return. The only time they haven’t, is if they cancelled for reasons that had nothing to do with me, after sending one. And that seems to happen more often lately, hence why it’s become imperative to ask for them to begin with.

I feel like in America, there’s so many scams and scammers…it’s hard to operate sensibly especially in this type of arena. Now, what I’m about to say is different than what this post originally referred to (getting the whole amount on Zelle), but it’s still in the spirit of what’s being discussed (e.g. cash is King) I’m only sticking with seeing NEW or out of town clients in some cases, with not just a deposit: but an initial consultation fee/deposit BEFORE actually getting cash. Meaning, Zelle or other apps. Even though I’ve had lots of clients send without an issue, I will admit it runs some away… At the same time, I think the mentality of the greater Client community needs to change. This is not 2001. It’s not 2005. And it’s not even 2015. We are in 2022. Everybody is doing electronic payments. Uber, PayPal, Cash App, Grub Hub. All the other companies get their money upfront when you order their service. Yet, if I’m only asking a small portion of the session as “legwork” of the actual session, there really shouldn’t be an issue. I think people have gotten so comfortable with escorts/masseurs just “showing up” without getting anything upfront. For example: somebody today ask me for an outcall to the Kansas City airport. I don’t need an Uber to get there, I can make it. But, it’s an HOUR away from me. I send my deposit instructions, and the person didn’t bother to reply back. Which is okay because it probably eliminated someone who isn’t serious, but it’s frustrating considering it was the only seemingly real booking request I’ve had all week. People think they can just text a provider out the blue, and I’m supposed to stop what I’m doing, hop in my car, pay for gas, and be on my way…with nothing more than a lousy text message asking if I’m available tonight? What do I look like? What reason do I really have to believe that after I do all that commuting, the person on the other end is actually going to be there? Or that after spending 30-60 minutes “consulting” details and such, that they aren’t going to pull a “oh sorry my co-workers just came over, I have to cancel”. That’s rookie non-sense. I’m 14 years in the game. I don’t have time to be running around like a headless chicken every-time my phone goes off. There’s nothing scam about getting a nominal amount of cash on a pay service. I’ve seen people PAY CASH and STILL get scammed right in front of their face. Like literally, take the money and not do anything until they pay more money. So, that means nothing in the big scheme of things. Sometimes it’s amazing at the end of the day: The person on the other end may be willing to be a paying client, but they can be cheap and unreasonable on the initial go. I’ve already paid my money upfront: advertising, pictures, commuting, lodging etc. Some of these people want a free service: they want free free free all the way up until AFTER the service and then pay. All that is old formula to me now. The working for free, maybe get paid after on the back end: is no longer efficient.

Odd behavior - blocking after 1st time encounter
JB_Studio38 replied to BeamerBikes's topic in Questions About Hiring
Who knows…probably fake -
I used to take up on some of the hardcore fantasies, which I won’t disclose for personal preferences…but I just don’t get into that as much no more. I’m not really marketing towards making clients into science projects or doing extreme kinks especially if traveling and staying in a hotel. Any such activities would have to be hosted by the client in a more private environment. Being an escort doesn’t have to equate to doing crazy, off the wall shit to get paid. Some guys come with a hope that we can accommodate anything, I’ve had to cut clients off that try to go too far. One guy wanted me to play rape him with a (non loaded pellet) gun. I did it, it was kinda fun…but also a little overboard and strange considering he (used to be) a regular client (before I blocked him for being a flaky idiot one too many times) and I just hate sometimes feeling like gay sex has to equate to odd and crazy fetishes. Plus at the end of the day, I don’t always get paid enough to carry out such tasks. If I’m going to be playing “sneak into your house and rape you”, I better damn well be getting paid like an actor to do the damn thing.

Do you believe the ones who call in sick the day of?
JB_Studio38 replied to JB_Studio38's topic in Questions About Hiring
This is a bit of a different situation than what I’m referring to. The circumstances I refer to are the ones who don’t meet after calling in sick last minute, and usually don’t leave anything in compensation. Often times, this occurs in the morning (almost like they just wake up, and suddenly change their minds - or are no longer drunk/horny/high versus a case of being sick) In your case, it wouldn’t of been the worst thing to just meet him, then give something partial and hold until next time. And just a disclaimer: I don’t recommend anyone risking it to not get the provider sick, however…I’m bringing up this topic because in the past couple months, I’ve had like 4-5 clients call in sick at the last minute. Of all of them, I can say I didn’t actually believe any of them were being truthful, especially since they were all text messaged. Which gives me no real evidence of it being true. -

JB_Studio38 replied to JB_Studio38's topic in Questions About Hiring
If everyone did that accordingly, I probably wouldn’t ever have to question about it lol. -
Me personally: I am asking for partial donations upfront from new clients. I’ve not gone the route of half, because it is more for the initial consultation. That said, the 🚩 flag isn’t so much that the person asked for half upfront, the flag is that there wasn’t an exchange of numbers and the discussion is taking place on messenger without (as I assume?) no number provided or exchanged. Then, doing gift card stuff is the other give away. Similar to how I don’t book clients from the RM messenger or A4A without a phone number, you would at least want to have a number. And make sure it’s not some phony text mail or other knock off service either. Some client yesterday arranged a booking on text mail with me, which I didn’t realize until I called upon arrival. I blocked him 2 years ago for weird behavior, but he slipped thru and was even more off than the last time 🤦🏽♂️ That said: there’s people out there who think everyone who’s asks for payment ahead is a scam. I’m staying committed to my new way of doing things. Many are accustomed to pay upfront in full for Uber, Priceline, and pretty much everything else online. Hiring an escort online really shouldn’t be much different. The business just hasn’t evolve enough to be able to do that, but I’m doing what I need to do for now. There’s a separate escort forum overseas where someone discussed how they used to be in the biz in the early 2000s, and was busy busy. Person retired and then returned and noticed so many calls nowadays aren’t serious. I feel the same. I don’t know what it is, but for me it’s just better to have something to work with upfront, versus just taking randomly inquiries round the clock.
-
Hmm…I have to counter this slightly. I’ve reached out to many a client after the fact or down the line and it hasn’t been an issue. Unless the person specifically asks you not to, and/or doing it discreetly shouldn’t be an issue. Otherwise, how would traveling guys really ever reach out to regulars? They aren’t always “looking” on the sites, so a brief and non invasive message shouldn’t pose a threat.

All of the above! But this is also why I’ve moved from deposits to consultation fee now. Because I was doing all that question answering, and then people would go silent or suddenly become ill when asked for deposit. Nope 👎🏾 I rather use that time to focus on other things.
