The focus of my sexuality has moved through pick-ups and relationships for the first years of my out life to the highly erotic club scene and "circuit" to strip clubs and now to m4m massage (porn has always had some role in my sex life). I don't go to spas, so my history and expectations are for private masseurs.
 
I rarely choose therapeutic only masseurs, since m4m massage is a sexual (in the broadest sense) and emotional experience for me. If the masseur explicitly advertises sensual/erotic or charges (as of Aug 2019) $150 or higher per hour, the understanding is that he will be partly or (usually) completely nude, that I will touch their body in some ways, and that they will probably handle my ass and cock. If those conditions aren't met, I feel misled. There's a wide range of possibilities in these three things, however, and that, for me, is where respect for the masseur's desires and limits come into play, as well as the chemistry between us.
 
Most masseurs are good at signaling their boundaries and desires. I have never asked about mutual touch (I think most m4m masseurs in the range I am describing assume most clients would like it) and I believe that not asking has created a more organic experience of mutual touch. I've only had a couple experiences of disappointment.

I don’t usually short on the tip, but I will call them out on it in a polite way, something like “you seem a little distracted today” or “you arent quite yourself today” and then add “what’s going on?”. Give ‘em the chance to explain and very importantly, the opportunity to commit to the established experience; want to hear that he will make it up to me the next time. We are only human after all. ?

For me, I just look at it as something different. I'm married, and while we have a monogamish agreement, I don't really have interest in full experiences. I love getting massages, even when they're just therapeutic. If there's a connection going on there, and there's sensual touch (and maybe kissing) and release, it just enhances the experience. Admittedly, I'm surprised with even myself because one of my biggest concerns with any activity outside of a relationship is fear of over-connection, or it taking away from the relationship. going out on a limb here and will say that actual relationships take time and levels of intimacy that bring greater sexual experiences then what I have had with masseurs or escorts. The physical is satisfying yes with an escort or massage, the intimacy and mentally hard on that comes with that is lacking when you pay for an hour.
