  1. It’s actually a security tool used by our hosting provider (which is using AWS platform).

The most common reason as @ThroatCummer noted is VPN usage. You share an IP address with thousands of other users who could be using that VPN to do bad things. This causes that address to get a bad reputation and everyone that shares it ends up being punished.

  2. I've tried to do a reset of the system files again.  If you're still not seeing the site, I suggest trying clearing cache again.  Does this happen on a different device?  (I'm wondering if you have an AV or some sort of security program that might be blocking parts of the site.)

  3. It means emails we've attempted to send you were rejected by your mail provider.  It was returned as a hard bounce.

When an email is rejected by an email server, it's called a bounce. Learn about the different types of bounces...

I have reset the system to allow it to send email again to the address you have on file, but I can only do this a few times.  If your mail provider continues to reject email from us, our hosting provider will eventually permanently block it.

  4. It means we've tried to send email to you (for example sending you a notice that you received a PM), but that email bounced.  If you go into your account settings, you can update your email address with a valid one.

  5. We don't proactively block VPNs.  It might be something else catching our hosting system's security however.  To test if it's the VPN, when you see the problem occurring, disable the VPN.  If the problem goes away, the VPN would be the issue.

  6. This is difficult as IP is a really bad indicator these days.  For example, our biggest percentage of users are in NYC.  It's not uncommon to see people share an IP when they are using a mobile device on a cell network.  Also, IPs because of mobility changes very frequently.  There is also the use of VPNs and that some users use the same VPN provider.

It's somewhat of a manual task to figure out if there are multiple accounts involved.  This includes building a device fingerprint, looking at browser info, etc.  Even then, sometimes it comes down to a gut feeling by needing to look at the posting style and how the two suspected accounts act.

  7. This is something I’m playing with. We stop over 500 per DAY. I’m trying to get better tools but it is an arms race.  We also have to balance this with not blocking or curtailing legitimate new members.

Those specific attempts are using ChatGPT to try and make posts semi relevant the reply with links as a way to get around some standard tools that moderate the first post made. (We don’t do that but it’s a common site tactic.)
