I guess I have a different view of someone being a "clock watcher." If someone is wrapping things up early so they are out the door right on the hour, that's wrong. If someone schedules himself so he needs to be more-or-less done right on time, it might not feel great as a client because it does highlight the transactional nature of the meeting but the best way to avoid that is to arrange for a longer appointment in advance or to ask if there's some flexibility about extending the appointment time in the moment. I frequently used to hire guys for an hour but would say that in the moment I might want to extend that to 90 minutes and ask if that would be possible. Most of the time the men I hired were okay with that.

I don't know you or your family and friends so my reaction may be off base, but here's how I read what you wrote: You have family and friends who are trying to tell you that they wish you would be more open with them about your sexual orientation so they could feel closer to you/know you better, but instead of allowing that to happen you continue to hide from them.
