    Yes, mostly.
Most people who bash Dubai have never actually been, much less been multiple times and understand how their culture and custom work.
It's not like Russia in the least.

I hate to "blame the victim," but how naive does someone have to be to start sending money -- especially significant amounts of money -- to someone he's never met?
I get lots of bogus messages on A4A.  My rules are basically this: a) not much info in profile? delete. b) not in my area and no indication they plan to be in my area? delete. c) say they are somewhere near me but the location indicates they are thousands of miles away. delete. d) nothing very personal in first message that would indicate why they liked my profile and decided to message me. delete. e) a photo or two of someone young enough to be my grandson who gushes over my attractiveness. delete.  Maybe I accidentally delete a sincere message by having these standards, but I doubt it.

I agree with this.  Too many complexities with arranging/paying travel.  If you have an established trusted relationship, maybe this is workable but.....

I recall that you’ve speculated about Dubai and muscleboys before, @Unicorn
I’ve no idea why you’re so fascinated by the lives of those men, whose photos you jerk-off to.
@pubic_assistance is quite correct: money is the key.

Certainly, I know the brother of an Emir is gay. I guess muscleboys, personal trainers and models may get lured by the prospect of big money from closeted Arabs…but the smart and rich Arabs play abroad in Europe and the US, rather than at home.

@nycboi I empathize that your friend's actions led to a big reaction from the other guy, whether rightly or wrongly.  But the consensus amongst posters seems to be that your friend shouldn't have assumed that even a gentle slap would be okay with everyone.  Perhaps this will be a learning experience for him, and one that did not end up being too costly in the long run.  It may be that he just has to admit to himself that it was an unfortunate choice to have made, and then move on to better future experiences.

Nothing is booked until the date, time and location are confirmed and agreed. Otherwise it’s just an enquiry. Clients ask me if I’m available on certain days that might align with their travel plans. This is sensible as I might be away or busy so I understand why clients check. But we agree that until they definitively book the time might be taken by someone else.

I think your provider was unprofessional. Probably annoyed after a series of cancellations which I can empathise with but it’s still not right to take out his annoyance on you. It’s an inherent problem of his modus operandi and he should either adjust his approach by taking deposits before travelling or simply get out of the business if his model causes him that much trouble. You were generous offering to pay him half.

If I may, as a client in the past, comment, I’d say you definitely did NOT have a date scheduled @NYCgymfitNEW  Otherwise, why did the provider query it?
In these circumstances I would pay NOTHING to the provider.

My only small criticism of you is that you might have responded to the query straightaway, saying Sorry, my plans are being changed by my boss so I cannot confirm yet. I still hope to see you if I’m able to be there.
I wouldn’t worry about the provider’s anger. It seems to me that possibly he was taking his business-frustration with others out on you.

I agree with you, an appointment is not booked until a date, time and place have been confirmed.
Recently I was traveling and there were a couple of clients in your position of not having full control of their schedules. Both told me they'd understand if I would be making other arrangements given their inability to commit to a date and time. I thought that was fine. In the end I was able to accommodate one once his schedule stabilized, but not the other.
It can be difficult for the providers when prospective clients are not able to confirm, but it also goes with the territory. This is true of any service trade, or sales for that matter - the deal isn't sealed until it's fully confirmed. If someone can't deal with that, they should find another line of work that offers a predictable salary.
Your policy for paying for canceled appointments is very respectable btw.

It somewhat baffles me and and amazes me at the same time that I can ( at most US points of entry) just walk into the United States  with  just my face, at the machine.  Walk up to the machine, have the machine take my photo, walk though ( assuming the words "See officer" doesn't appear) .  Pre-covid, the machines would spit out a receipt that doesn't even happen anymore. No passport needed. Takes 1 minute, maybe 2 at most, almost no wait, Walk though.
This is a privilege I don't take for granted.  Most foreigners have to wait in line etc. Sometimes up to an hour.
At Heathrow specifically where I frequent  you do need to put your passport down on scanner, and depending on the terminal , the machines sometimes don't work - Terminal 3 ( which is used by Delta and Virgin) have the lower quality machines which tend to break down.  The machines take your photo. It's the same everywhere, in Dubai, Korea, Hong Kong , etc.  Brazil still has a photo from 13+ years ago when I first entered, it shows up on the screen ( this usually involves a chat with the officer about how I aged a little).
This is basically a fait accompli - the horse left the barn on this one.  It's 2022 - my photo is everywhere I have been, both old and new. Nothing I can do about it.  Everyone does this now.
They key is : Understand the rules and follow them. ( and you should be fine)

With all due respect, why is there "some privacy law being violated" because facial recognition is used by DHS and many other companies?
I travel a lot.  I am at an airport several time each month.
On my last twelve flights I did not have to show my boarding pass just before entering the aircraft from the U.S. side.
At the boarding area are signs telling you to lower any mask and look at the camera as you pass it.
The first time this happened with me, I felt uncomfortable thinking that my return flight would be canceled because I did not have my boarding pass scanned when I entered the aircraft.  The records could look as though I were a "no show" for my outgoing flight.
There was no problem with my return flight.
Technology has changed and advanced to a degree that many cannot fathom.
I do not see how privacy is being violated when the government has almost every adult photo in its data base.
Even photos from driver licenses are in many of the U.S. data bases.
Privacy is a word from history.  We have little privacy left, if any.
With regard to the guys from foreign countries who come to the U.S. and also have their face photo on a rentmen.eu advertisement, those guys should somehow get word out to each other to omit any face photo if they plan to visit the U.S.
    Words to the wise!

This actually looks really good. I love Jim Parsons and Sally Field, so I'll probably hit the theater when it opens. Can't remember the last movie I saw in a theater.

Just found out this about the movie:
Spoiler Alert is an upcoming American biographical romantic drama film directed by Michael Showalter, from a screenplay written by David Marshall Grant and Dan Savage, based on the memoir Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies by Michael Ausiello. The film stars Jim Parsons as Ausiello, along with Ben Aldridge and Sally Field.
The film is scheduled to be released by Focus Features on December 2, 2022.

It’s impossible to offend me. To be offended you have to take offence and I choose not to accept the offence. It’s their problem not mine.
Occasionally clients are impolite (things like avoiding eye contact) but that’s probably anxiety or feeling bad about themselves. It doesn’t bother me, in fact it’s a fun challenge to then help them be less anxious and inhibited.

If you are not here on a work Visa, and you earn money here, you are breaking the law.   I think sex workers are probably a target more so as to the nature of their work but any work would be subject to this.  Probably best to advertise with a face picture, to only give out set travel plans to those with whom you have an appointment and then advertise with a burner phone in the cities where you are traveling once you are here in the US.
