Paul Cadmus and Jared French were lovers and created art from the late 1930’s through the early 1950’s.  They worked primarily in their studios in New York spending summers on the beaches of Fire Island, Provincetown and Nantucket.

This Encores production of the homage to the music of Jelly Roll Morton is pretty spectacular. The cast is superb, and I could write a sonnet to each. LOL. Nicholas Christopher is terrific as Jelly...so hard to tread that line of the anti-hero...mistreating everyone around him, and still make him likable. (Especially after Gregory Hines' Tony winning original which is still pretty iconic in my head.) Billy Porter is the best I've seen him lately as the Chimney Man. Leslie Uggams at age 80 is in great voice and looks like a million bucks. Joaquina Kalukangu sings the hell out of Anita. Like in Paradise Square two years ago, she holds her long notes that folks just don't wait for her to stop to start applauding. (which I hate, by the way.) And the highlight for me was the three original Hunnies: Allison Williams, Mamie Duncan Gibbs, and Stephanie Pope.
And the dancing is the best on Broadway this season...(and it's not on Broadway.) The tapping is spectacular.
I don't know how they managed to put this together in their short rehearsal time, but I recommend it highly.

I saw this last night, and there are some great things about it. It's very faithful to the book. (Didn't see the movie.) The score is stronger in the first act...but pretty deadly for a chunk of the second act. None of the ballads are very good. Jakob (Grant Gustin - TV's The Flash) has a song about stars that comes near the end of Act 1, that is too long and his singing is fine for the bigger numbers, but I don't think he was able to pull off the ballad, or the love duet in the second act. (However, he is pretty spectacular to look at.) Marlena (Isabelle MacCalla) has a ballad in the second act, which felt endless. The score is by "Pigpen Theatre Co." which according to the program consists of 7 fellows who have written and performed some off-Broadway and regional works. This collective didn't to my mind provide enough of a connective spirit for the score, but some of the bigger numbers were very strong, and there's some stunning choral arrangements for the cast. The ensemble is strong. Paul Alexander Nolan is truly a menacing villain, August. He is dangerous and mercurial, and not entirely two-dimensional, (...which he is in the book.) The show is pretty impressive viewing...there are some good circus acts, one in particular: a wounded horse imagining his younger days. The second act is muddled, and could be trimmed quite a lot...my companion didn't follow what happened in the big climax. (And there must have been some incident at the end of Act 1, because the intermission was longer than 25 minutes with a lot of folks running up and down the side aisle to the stage access door.)
Part Lion King, part recent circus-themed revival of Pippin, part The Notebook (the reminiscent framing device seems to be very popular now), it's an engaging, if predictable story. It was worth the terrific discounted $100 seats we had, but I am glad we didn't pay more.

It opened on Broadway 🎭 back in the summer of 2023. I’m sure most of us are familiar with the story and enjoyed the movie. Now, you can see it all on stage.
A fun plot about being transported back to 1955. The major characters are Marty McFly, Doc Brown, and George McFly.  A very talented, youthful, energetic, and likable cast. There’s lots of singing, dancing, and set changes.
I was entertained and impressed with the special effects including fires, explosions, sparks, lightning, and the famous DeLorean. Yes, it flies off stage and heads out towards the audience. After the show it can be found parked on the street outside the Theatre.
The audience consisted of all ages. At the performance I attended there were lots of well behaved school groups. They seem mesmerized by the show.

Cooper reacted to captainbuddy in Clubs/bars in the U.S. that have lap dances-let's make a master list!
I'm wondering if it would be useful to create a master list of clubs and bars in the U.S. that have male dancers who do lap dances inside the club. Not a list of places with nude male strippers, since the number of those establishments is dwindling, and not a list of clubs that just have gogo dancers standing on boxes, but a list of clubs where you can take a gogo dancer to a private, semiprivate, or even public area to buy a lap dance.

    Here are some examples:
Phoenix - Karamba Nightclub - "Flesh" Male Revue - the club allows dancers to do lap dances in a separate curtained-off area.
Chicago - Boxers n Briefs - the club has gogo dancers in their underwear who are able to give lap dances on some nights in the rear bar.
Atlanta - BJ Roosters - the bar has dancers in their underwear who dance on the bar, and they also have some private rooms for lap dances.

Are there other cities that have non-strip clubs that still have lap dances? What are the hidden gems?

Based on a book I’ve never read, a movie I’ve never seen and an actor, Grant Guston in a tv series I’ve never watched (The Flash) I bought a ticket for a preview of the Broadway show on a whim. And a good whim it was. Pretty amazing circus acts and a life size elephant puppet made for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon.

Wow, the spreads are really getting larger.  After Cooper's post I went to check a 6 month treasury that executed yesterday and the annual equivalent rate is 5.3%.  Wonder if the banks are pricing in the lower rates for their CD's to make sure they don't get squeezed.

I am very sorry to report that Guy Fawkes/daddy passed away this evening of heart failure. For over a month he remained in the hospital unconscious and on life support.

His passing touches us all. He was a man who dedicated his life to providing a Forum where men would feel free and comfortable talking about all sorts of topics that covered our life style.

Having worked with daddy since he started this site I got to see first hand how much he cared about people and viewed us as his family. He was a very bright man with a love for life. He will be missed.

    RIP Daddy/Guy Fawkes

    With sympathy,
