I'm not trying to brag, just share my good fortune. Since I retired, I don't drive nearly as much as I used to, which was around 80 miles per day round trip. Now, I drive to the grocery store and the pharmacy (each less than half a mile away), and to occasional doctor or other appointments. So, I only have to fill my tank once every three months or so, and that does feel good, insulating me a bit from the sticker shock.
BUT ... I don't get off scot-free. I use Uber when I go out for dinner and/or drinks, and that's typically about $30 per night (including both to and from trips and counting both fares and tips), or about $250 to $350 per month.
I'm very grateful for my circumstance.

It was pretty fantastic. Being acquainted helped with some of the awkwardness of meeting what’s usually a stranger. He was so warm and welcoming and we had a ton of fun together:). I did give him an out if he felt uncomfortable but he was totally fine with it.
