craigville beach reacted to + Oliver in Epigonos has left us.
It is with a very heavy heart that I must tell you that my very dear friend, Epigonos, is no longer with us.  I was informed this evening by a close friend that it occured apparently last night in his sleep.  Ironically yesterday was his birthday.
Please help me through this.  Thank you.

We spend Thanksgiving with friends in Northern California. One of them is pre-diabetic and is working very hard at maintaining a low-glycemic diet.  When thinking of a potluck dish to bring, I have never really considered his special needs - I just thought if it doesn't work for his diet, he doesn't need to eat it.   I've started thinking I'll be more supportive - he would do the same for me - so I'm bringing a keto-friendly side-dish  - cauliflower au gratin. - made with gruyere and imported parmesan.

I feel terrible for small fishing and charter operations that will be broke, but cannot care about the loss of private yachts of any size. Similarly I also care little about those who lost second homes in the storm. My donations go to those orgs helping the poorest first.

This is the season when the markets are overflowing with ripe garden tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini and other ingredients that cooked together make a wonderful Mediterranean side dish for all sorts of meats and fish.
And everything is so cheap and bountiful that I can't resist making up large pot-fulls and freezing some for colder days ahead. Of course I'm  having some right now and reheated it is even better as the flavours of the different vegetables have blended even more.
And most importantly it is a healthy food and can be part of a balanced nutritious diet.

Exactly - I will not buy branded clothing no matter how "stylish" or "prestigious."   Actually, I take that back.  I don't mind buying branded stuff from places like Target because the only messages it conveys are that I'm thrifty and I that  I  don't care (too much) about what others think.

I’ve declared a moratorium on countertop plug in appliances that take up a lot of real estate. Now that I’m no longer working and time is not of the essence I’ve ditched the crock pot, instant pot, toaster oven, ice cream maker, etc etc and have gone back to the cooktop and my convection wall oven. Not missing any of that stuff.

This morning I had a casual interaction with a guy at the grocery store.  I get the sense it could have turned into a hookup but did not pursue...how often do you manage to make a casual interaction work as a hookup?

Here's what happened.  It was early morning on a Sunday, so the store only had one check-out open; there were very few people around and we were the only two people in line.  I recognized him from his Grindr profile, we hooked up once about 3 years ago - he was ahead of me and his card got declined. He tried a second card and it happened again.  He was very embarrassed... it looked like he had just stepped outside to pickup a few things for breakfast, was dressed in running shorts and a tshirt and he didn't have a wallet, just a phone with a few cards in the sleeve of the phone. I guess I am aging myself by expecting a guy to have an actual wallet with cash!  His Grindr profile indicates that he just moved back to the city after a few years away, and I have no knowledge of his financial situation, but felt the need to step in and do a good deed.  So I said: "I hate it when that happens.  Damn banks can never get it right".  I slipped him two fifties and said in a low voice - "Just pay it forward sometime".  His expression changed from embarrassment to confusion, to surprise, back to embarrassment.  It was adorable!  He thanked me and left.  My card did not get declined (thank goodness!).  He was waiting for me outside.  He thanked me again, but it was on the cusp of getting a little awkward - I sensed that he kinda recognized me but maybe wasn't sure...  So I just said: "It's totally fine, it happens to all of us - good to see you, it's been a while!"  Gave a friendly smile and wave and went on my way.
Is it wrong that I hope he hits me up on Grindr tonight?? 😋

craigville beach reacted to Epigonos in Wearing a Rolex, because you can’t wear a gold bar on your wrist.
When my father retired after forty years being the director of maintenance at the 7Up bottling plant, in Los Angeles, he was given an engraved watch. The family was appalled that that was all dad was given after all those years but said nothing. When my father died my mother wanted me to take the watch. I have never worn a watch so I, ungratefully, refused. My mother then offered the watch to my brother-in-law. He also refused stating that he had a perfectly good Timex that he really liked. My mother then gave the watch to her eldest grandson. Years later my nephew showed the watch to his mother and asked where he should take it to have it cleaned and repaired if needed. My sister looked at the watch and told him he should take it directly to the Rolex Shop in Beverly Hills and NOT to a local jeweler. At the Rolex shop my nephew apologized to the salesperson explaining that the watch was likely not worth much because it was not self-wind and was engraved.  The salesperson was shocked and informed my nephew that not being self-wind and being engraved made the watch more valuable NOT less. He also pointed out that that the watch had small diamonds at the 12 and the 6 and small rubies at the 3 and the 9. My nephew nearly fainted when he was told the value of the watch (unfortunately I do not remember the value my nephew was quoted). He was told, however, that he needed to get rid of the cheap band and buy a suitable replacement which he proceeded to do. For years my brother-in-law and I laughed at our ignorance regarding watches and their value. My nephew now 66 continues to wear the watch to this day.
