You seem like somebody I would like to have a conversation with. I have been with the FD since I was 18. I have advanced emergency medical training, special training for industrial plant fires. Such as boilers and places with massive amounts of oil or chemicals. Search and rescue, and also work with the local PD for training. I'm not part of the PD but they asked me to volunteer to help train new officers on how to conduct field sobriety tests. By that I mean they paid for my drinks I got lit and let them practice on me. I volunteer every year now. With all that in mind, my favorite part of what I do is blowing the horn on the fire trucks. It never gets old.5 points -

*Late Night TV takes another hit
Lookin and 3 others reacted to Simon Suraci for a topic
Late night TV called out uncomfortable facts by making light of them. Calling out an unflattering truth exposes glaring hypocrisy. Rather than acknowledging or making an effort to address the hypocrisy, the response here was to silence the voices calling it out. Consider the role of the jester, and his cousin, the clown. The clown entertains using comedy, audience interaction, and physical stunts to make people laugh and bring joy. The clown provides fun, if not superficial, unchallenging, entertainment by focusing on physical gags and tricks. The jester, however, provides a more consequential role in society. The role of a jester in sparking positive change lies in using humor and satire to challenge authority, speak uncomfortable truths, and expose the flaws of those in power. Though often seen as mere entertainers, jesters historically occupied a unique position with "jester's privilege," a license to mock and critique without facing the severe repercussions that others would. This made them potent, though often subtle, agents of change. Historically, jesters wielded influence within the court and beyond by: * Speaking truth to power: Jesters could communicate harsh realities to rulers who were often surrounded by "yes-men" too afraid to contradict them. For example, after the French navy's destruction at the Battle of Sluys in 1340, King Philippe VI's jester delivered the bad news through a sarcastic joke, revealing the truth of the defeat when others wouldn't. * Providing impartial advice: Unlike other court members seeking favor, a jester could offer rulers fresh, unfiltered perspectives on important matters of state. Their insight often helped heads of state gain perspective and make better decisions. * Critiquing corruption and injustice: Jesters would often publicly mock corrupt officials, social norms, and the excesses of the ruling elite. This commentary, delivered through wit and observation, served as a subtle, yet impactful form of social critique. * Exposing hypocrisy: Through their performances, jesters acted as mirrors to society, highlighting its flaws and the hypocrisy of its leaders. This prompted reflection among the court and revealed truths that went otherwise ignored. Contemporary jesters take the form of late night comedians, animated shows, video memes created by everyday people on platforms like YouTube and TikTok, and more. By removing the role of the jester in society (and more broadly, free speech), those with power to do so are breaking all the mirrors. The proverbial emperor has no clothes, and without a mirror to reveal the facts, nakedness reigns supreme. Once all the jester voices have been eliminated from society, all we are left with is a bunch of clowns.4 points -

If he’d been cancelled for failed ratings, your point would be relevant. But you know that’s not true; he was canceled to suppress dissent. You might think that’s ok, if he doesn’t share your values. The problem you have is this works both ways. This will hit home for you (and likely sooner than you think), but I suspect by then it will be too late. That’s the point.4 points -

I lurked around for a week or so. I have always been apart of forums. I even used to run my own forum years ago. I know some places are super strict with how they post and not searching before creating topics ect. I kind of started in the beginning of the forum ages and left for a long while. Hell, even before I made my introduction post I asked a mod if there was a specific thread I should do it on because I couldn't find one. I know all places are different, I just wanted to come in correctly.4 points

No more X pics on RM?
56harrisond and 2 others reacted to Simon Suraci for a topic
Here is the latest I heard from the webmaster: “Be advised that for a short period of time the non-Premium clients were unable to see explicit coated. However, it was confirmed by our IT department that the issue was fixed. In case a user reports that they are unable to see your X-rated photos, please ask them to contact us here or to our email address [email protected]” The webmaster clarified earlier in our exchange that they are referring to my region; the implication being that for other regions, presumably outside the US, it may be different. I suspect now or in the future, restrictions in certain states in the US applying to pornography may apply to viewing explicit content on RM, but I don’t know. Maybe someone here residing in a state requiring age verification to view pornography can illuminate this point.3 points -

There is a unique eroticism to hotel encounters: coming through the anonymous public mystery of the lobby, and then through an elevator and hallway to a door to a room, beyond which pleasure waits. It will always work for me, whether the hotel is budget or elegant.3 points -

Vegas in Trouble?
realestateguy75 and one other reacted to + sniper for a topic
It's the age old problem of corporations chasing perpetual growth in ROI rather than a steady profit. At some point you hit the limit of what you can squeeze out of the customer before they sour on your product. I used to go 5-6 times a year and now it's 2-3 and the last few times, if it weren't for the fact I was meeting friends, I would not have cared for the experience. What's sort of interesting is I think the high-end food places are doing better, because they haven't raised their prices by the same percentage. So the gap between the food court and the steakhouse is smaller.2 points -
