Thinking of treating myself to a birthday present with tickets to a Met Opera performance. Are there any NYC escorts who really like opera? As opposed to those who are just willing to go to an opera as part of their job?

I just saw Turandot at the Academy of Music. It was gorgeous. Hope! blood! Turandot! Nessum dorms was spectacular. Check it out.

Escorts from European countries are more likely to enjoy the event - they have been raised with classical music and the arts in a way we yanks have not. (Unless what you really want in a date is to be rested for the after-show...dessert). Hardest part will negotiating turning off the phone in the theatre!

The only appropriate attire for Rheingold is a noose.

Kevin Slater

And Das Reingold is one of his shortest operas!

Speaking of opera attire I once did see two guys at Opera Orchestra of New York... at Carnegie Hall... wearing leather chaps and vests. While they had the potential to be assless they were both wearing jeans under their chaps. I guess that's how one transforms such attire into being appropriate for the opera...

One more thought, a while back there was a poster here who posted frequently about opera. A friend (and former poster) knowing that I liked the subject told me that it was an escort using an alter ego. I won't say the name because I can't verify if it indeed was the case, but it was an escort who had many monikers here... some of which were quite over the top. An escort who does not post here any more. I was told that he had a client who was either a big shot at the MET or at least knew those in the MET's inner circle. Again believe half of what you see and none of what you hear... and that's where he got a lot of his information and knowledge about the subject.

I used to get tickets for some of productions at the MET, and then would try to find an escort who would appreciate the evening as much as I did. That was harder said than done. I brought one guy to a Puccini opera (not difficult to sit through -- as opposed to some of the German repertoire) and he was fidgeting, and twice I had to tell him to put the %#$ phone away. He literally walked out at the end of the 1st act -- and dared me to get him to return to the theatre (returning to the hotel, I politely but firmly cancelled the rest of the evening, handed him taxi fare for LaGuardia, and sent him on his way -- total jerk).

I have found more success with European escorts who - as stated above - are somehow more appreciative of opera as an art form, and not at all embarrassed or uncomfortable accompanying a client to the Met or some other venue. Better, they can sit after the production and actually discuss it with a some authority. I wish - Kevin Slater - I had known of your interest in the past. I imagine you would be a very enjoyable companion for "A Night at the Opera."

I once scored tickets for the Bolshoi Theatre for a lengthy 4-act Soviet opera by Sergei Prokofiev Semyon Kotko. It was a special production mounted before the theatre was to close for major renovations. I had two tickets, and checked around for an escort -- and hit the jackpot with a soldier who escorted on the side, and who loved the opera. He showed up at the hotel in a beautifully-tailored suit and very shiny shoes, quite a sight as he was a very muscular guy. He had obviously been to this theatre often in the past, knew the routine of checking coats and hats (and politely and considerately had an extra plastic bag for my hat and gloves); managed to get us free champagne and caviar between acts in one of the loge bars, and then took me to an after-hours club where we could relax with brandy and talk over the very difficult plot and music -- and then... the rest of the night was even more fantastic.

Philly50, I have the perfect candidate for you--a primo escort who genuinely loves opera, and who attended many a dress rehearsal and performance at the Lyric Opera back in his hometown, Chicago. However, before proceeding with my suggestion, I have a few caveats--and a question.

First, even though he might love opera as much as, say, La Cieca herself, and could offer you delightful and situationally appropriate company, this escort would still be there as a professional companion. In other words, you'd be paying for his time--literally, for once.

Now let's imagine that seaworld had asked him to the Met's 'Tristan' on Monday night. Just having him at his side for the performance would have cost him $1,500, barring any multiple-hour fee considerations. So when you factor in the roughly $800 cost of two box seats* (you'd need that kind of free-form space for this big fella) you've already crossed over into weekender territory. And the additional costs of travel, intermission drinks, supper and the like would surely push you toward the $3,000 mark.

All that, and you still haven't got him back to your place and out of his clothes! (For which add $300 to $500. . .)

So my question is: do you really plan to celebrate your birthday in such lavish style?

------------------

*Actually, those box seats cost even more last Monday night--which was also the gala opening of the Met's season.

It shouldn't be that difficult to find a gay man that likes opera. I enjoy the opera, but I wouldn't call myself an opera lover. My partner and I usually go to the SF Opera at least once during the season. It is always thick with gay men. Maybe that's just here.

Try SweetForYou. Good guy for that kind of thing.

Also, I've been curious about Paganprinz for a long time - I like his range- but I haven't taken the leap.

Personally, I'd twist Slater's arm ;)

Have an amazing time!

This guy was working "for an agency" that - in those days - specialized in fronting for military men in and around both St. Petersburg (often more sailors), and Moscow (soldiers). I met him on a 2-hour encounter, and found him not only extremely handsome and compliable (in every position), but cultured. This led to his leaving me his personal number, and expressing an interest in the opera (we had spoken about it while cleaning up), and once I got the tickets, I called. He suggested an overnight knowing that by the time we finished this LONG 4-act pera and had time to unwind, it would be way past midnight, and it was already winter. When I met him in the lobby of the hotel, I was stunned -- broad shoulders filled out a nicely tailored dark suit and tie, he carried a shapka (fur hat) and nice overcoat (it was -15° F), and those sparkling shoes (and I do not have a foot fetish). This guy was 5'10" and about 190 lbs of pure muscle on a blond god with one of the nicest set of melons squeezed into his pants). But I digress..

He knew the production (which I did not), and was able to make sense of it -- a very difficult opera to begin with, no soaring lyrical parts, all in Russian, and set in WWI but switched out "Germans" for "Ukrainians" for political purposes when it was composed. He was able to introduce me to the "themes" -- and it was a gala performance (at the time US$500/seat); at the intermissions he ran into some of his other army ""buddies" also accompanying older gentlemen.

BTW nycman, back in the day, I met and often hired another solder, a captain in the Presidential Guard. He thought he was pulling my leg when he told me what his real job was... until I saw him a few times on TV behind Putin. He was one of the best escorts at the time, and loved to wear his military cap while "working."

Well, it WAS Carnegie Hall. One must respect the old dame's conservatism.

I don't know opera well, but have enjoyed it every time. I enjoy being challenged by the music I listen to - I like art that I don't always quite get initially, but that grabs my ear and keeps me by it's side until suddenly something opens and this whole new world of beauty is right in front of me.
