The simple joys of [gay] life

Right now, I’m sitting on my couch drinking iced coffee spiked with chocolate liqueur, while watching a Rodgers and Hammerstein special on PBS… and I’m content for the first time in ages. What are some of your simple joys of gay/bi/whatever life?

Taking a walk in solitude, clearing my mind of worries, then starting my day.

Waking up with an erection. It doesn’t happen as often as it did when I was younger, but when it does it’s a great feeling. Second would be when an attractive waiter flirts with me at dinner. You both know nothing’s going to happen, but it’s fun while it lasts. Third would be when the spirit of my late cat makes her presence known so that I know she’s all right and is still watching out for me. Fourth would be a towel warm from the dryer as I’m stepping out of the shower. Fifth would be sleeping through the night without getting up to pee.

Yep.  When it happens, I usually wrap my hand around it and enjoy the warmth and hardness.  It is indeed a great feeling.

Finding peace in the ordinary. A good drink, a quiet night, and not feeling like I need to be anywhere else. And rewatching Downton Abbey with no one to bitch about it.

Seeing a kid having an absolute meltdown in the grocery store and then being free to just walk away because they aren’t mine.

May I ask why now is not the time?? Believe me when I tell you that I have a body no one wants to see naked. Perhaps your reasons are different. I learned nearly 30 years ago the joy to be experienced by being naked outside in the sun and the pleasure of jumping into the pool completely unfettered by swim trunks. Palm Springs is a perfect place for that, as is Phoenix. Another simple pleasure I hadn’t thought of.

In a former life, I had a nice body. Regular gym goer, very active lifestyle with a very happy relationship. Everything seemed to change after 50. Partner died, and family genes caught up to me. Every doctor's visit seems to come with a new surprise. I'm still here. Just suffering from a little ptsd.
