massarang Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Can anyone recommend a masseur not too far from JFK by public transport? Thanks.
dutchal Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Frankly, the public transport available at JFK does not connect well to areas where you're likely to find masseurs, and searching the masseur listings for Queens turns up nothing. How long is your layover? Depending on your budget, one option is to rent a cheap motel room near the airport and get one of the Manhattan masseurs to do an outcall. + nycman, Redwine56 and Capitano 2 1
massarang Posted Wednesday at 06:47 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 06:47 PM Hi. Thanks for your reply. 8 hours layover. Limited budget :(

Limited budget Well if you’re the adventurous type, you could try researching or calling around on the many massage parlors in the hoods around JFK to see who has masseurs. For example, looking on Google Maps, reviews at A+ Head Spa mention a good experience with “Jason” just this week. ($90 for 90 minutes plus the 20 min Uber there and back). Hey, ya never know!
+ purplekow Posted Wednesday at 07:41 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:41 PM That Uber ride back and forth going to be more expensive than the massage, probably by quite a bit. So if budget is a problem, factor that in. pubic_assistance 1

dutchal Posted Wednesday at 08:18 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:18 PM Eight hours is long enough to get to Manhattan and back for an hour session with your choice of provider who offers incalls, but that will not be cheap. The yellow cab flat rate is $70 but with tax and tolls, and tip is usually $90-$100 (each way).

Capitano Posted Wednesday at 08:26 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:26 PM (edited) I am not a big fan of the NYC public transit (usually crowded, but if you check your bags at the airport not too bad), but it works. You should be able to get to Manhattan and back within 3 hours, 4 max. The trickiest part will be to schedule something ahead of time, given that your inbound flight may be late. I hate air travel 🤣 Edited Wednesday at 08:29 PM by Capitano Otterlybelievable and dutchal 2

I hardly ever think of that train option since trips to JFK involve enough luggage that I'm always in an Uber. And the train will be a fraction of the cost of a cab. + EVdude, Capitano and pubic_assistance 3
+ bencleve29 Posted Thursday at 05:14 AM Posted Thursday at 05:14 AM (edited) https://www.jfkairport.com/transportation/public-transport take the LIRR from Jamaica station (take air train to get there within JFK). Takes about 30 min and there are plenty of masseurs not that far from Penn Station. Edited Thursday at 05:14 AM by bencleve29 additional info pubic_assistance and mike carey 1 1
BaronArtz Posted Thursday at 10:16 AM Posted Thursday at 10:16 AM (edited) Take the Airtrain to Jamaica and hop on the E train to Manhattan. All in cost is $11.75 one way. Cheapest and fastest. Edited Thursday at 10:20 AM by BaronArtz Peter Eater and pubic_assistance 1 1
massagefan320 Posted Thursday at 06:32 PM Posted Thursday at 06:32 PM LIRR is faster than the subway if you are going to Penn Station. pubic_assistance, + bencleve29, mike carey and 1 other 2 2
+ LS299B Posted Thursday at 07:19 PM Posted Thursday at 07:19 PM (edited) IMHO and as they say in the hood "fuggetaboutit!" You're better off grabbing a drink at the TWA Hotel lounge and enjoy the view of the runways! The Hotel is on site at JFK. Seriously - a fabulous vintage retro hotel and lounge! Even when it’s not faster, it’s just nicer. Also if you have a big bag, fewer stairs. My strategy is usually LIRR to/from Penn and then cab to final destination. It’s less aggravating compared to taking subway or having an Uber stuck in traffic. + bencleve29, + Vegas_Millennial and pubic_assistance 2 1
jeezifonly Posted Thursday at 07:41 PM Posted Thursday at 07:41 PM Can you afford to miss the connecting flight? In spite of planning, one glitch in weather, transportation, provider's responsibility, and you could get stuck and on the hook for another ticket. pubic_assistance 1
DunwoodyGuy Posted Friday at 03:43 AM Posted Friday at 03:43 AM Uber has a relatively new jitney service between JFK and Manhattan For between $10–$25 it connects JFK Terminals 4 and 5 with Manhattan locations in Greenwich Village, Port Authority, and Grand Central. You can book on the Uber app up to 7 days in advance. If the times work out for you, book in advance with one of the many excellent masseurs in Hells Kitchen (the 10 blocks north and west of Port Authority. If the times for the jitney and the masseur works out, you'll have the perfect stress-free, stress-reducing layover! https://www.uber.com/global/en/r/airports/jfk/shuttle/ BaronArtz and pubic_assistance 1 1
pubic_assistance Posted Friday at 11:54 AM Posted Friday at 11:54 AM I can tell some of you guys don't travel in and out of NYC much. As someone who LIVES here and travels frequently, you NEVER use a CAR to get to and from JFK unless its late at night, or you have tons of luggage. ALWAYS takes the Airtrain to Jamaica TRAIN station (NOT the subway) and arrive at Penn Station or Grand Central in midtown Manhattan. The cost is about 1/8 of a car service and avoids the risk of getting stuck in traffic (which is pretty much guaranteed). + bencleve29, + EVdude, mike carey and 4 others 5 2

I travel frequently for work and my company has no problem paying for an Uber - and I still opt for the LIRR AirTrain option. It’s always a better experience and no risk of traffic on the Van Wyck, which is pretty much a given. If you do that, right near Penn Station (where the LIRR arrives - don’t take a Grand Central train) you have 27 Men’s Spa in walking distance. Search this site for recs on who to request. You can also hike it down to Energy on 23rd. Again search this site for recs on who to request. If you do go to Grand Central vs. Penn Station, there’s Noble Men’s Spa nearby. Search for recs on this site. It is more expensive, though, so might not be the best budget option. Have fun and enjoy. Trybekaman and pubic_assistance 1 1
