Does this mean the "Free Britney!" movement will be back? 😱

I haven't heard that. I just remember the "leave Britney alone" thing that made Chris Crocker famous for an internet minute.

I didn't know he or she transitioned a while ago. I guess that's just as surprising as this news.

I've never understood why anyone who's wealthy gets a DUI.  Why not just hire a chauffeur when you are going to be out drinking?

I agree with you 100%. Plus with the ubiquity of Uber and Lyft, not to mention cabs, there really is no excuse. (And allow me to add that I say that as someone who’s “been there”.)

I certainly don't condone drinking and driving but, having worked with folks with Bipolar Disorder for many years, Britney was likely drinking to elevate her mood (these folks can have extreme highs in their cycles, but many folks experience only ONE manic episode in their entire lifetimes and remain depressed the rest of their lives - the most common & problematic symptom of Bipolar is depression, not mania) - and this event was likely NOT about transportation or having the money to hire a chauffeur. As many in our own community know all too well, good sense & morality are soluble in alcohol.  It is a fact that folks with this Disorder are some of the most non-compliant people with their medication regimen because, although they don't like the "lows" of the disorder, they do miss the mania in which they experience an expansive mood, increased energy, and intense feelings of joy - and, unfortunately the current medications for Bipolar "flattens" their affect/mood so much that although they no longer feel manic - in fact, they don't feel ANYTHING - and then they engage in these high risk behaviors just to relive those moments of feeling alive again. I hope that the judicial system insists that her treatment be court monitored rather than just focus on the punitive.  There are now long-acting injectable medications for Bipolar Disorder that offer a sustained release over weeks and months - not a cure but an appropriate treatment for someone like Britney - she just needs to be monitored and be occasionally tested for compliance and therapeutic levels.  I'm not into pop music but the few times I've seen her on TV I've sensed that Britney is a good person and a good mother who unfortunately lives with a chronic, self-defeating mental illness - and the best thing that could happen to Britney at his point is that the community NOT "leave her alone."

Good points. I’d add we really don’t know what Britney’s mental health diagnosis is. She nor her team have ever disclosed it. People speculate she’s bipolar, as it’s generally socially acceptable for celebrities and artists to have a bipolar diagnosis or depression and anxiety. But she could even have schizoaffective disorder, or schizophrenia, which would explain why she nor her team hasn’t disclosed her diagnosis, because it’s seen as a less socially acceptable diagnosis with a higher stigma, for a person to have. It could be career ending for her to come out with a diagnosis of a psychotic disorder.

Driving oneself, with disposable income for hiring transportation to eliminate the possibility of DUI, is a choice made deliberately.

In that vein, I would expect further arrests to follow for driving without a valid license.
