The Pejorative Side of "Daddy"

I used to cringe when I was called daddy until I arrived in Hong Kong, where my 20-something hookups and providers always call me that. I now appreciate it as a term of endearment and I am just too happy that my Caucasian daddy looks and my very-much-daddy age attract so many cute young local twinks.

I don’t like being called daddy (or really even hearing someone else called daddy) in a sexual context.  It brings back some bad memories of real-life child abuse from both my personal life and my professional life.  I usually just say, “please don’t call me daddy” if I hear it.  I’m always unsure if I should explain why I don’t like it or just let them think I might be sensitive about my age.

I don’t mind it very much if it’s outside of a sexual context.  If someone called me daddy when I picked up the tab at the restaurant, I’d just roll with it.

I have very few rules with guys I get with - no drugs, keep it vanilla, etc - but my #1 Rule is "Don't call me Daddy"

I don't know. It's not my favorite. But since I've occasionally met some youngish guys (or even some older 'sub-ish' type guys)-it seems to be what they want-"a daddy"- I'll go with it. The more I hear it, the more I'm adjusting to it. I may prefer "Sir," but I'm not sure. 
 

However in regards to you @PhileasFogg, you pretty much answered your own question.  You have the great fortune, at least I hope it is for you, to be an actual father. Obviously the term "Daddy" means something special to you. And you explained why you don't like it. It's possible you wouldn't like the term even without your familial situation. But in your case you've already explained that being an actual Dad is the reason you don't like being called "Daddy."

On the other side of the pejorative side, one unexpected benefit of the apps in recent years is that older men are no longer "invisible" to younger men, as was the case for decades. Quite out of the blue, as I have gotten older, I have noticed the large percentage of men in their 30s and 40s (even their 20s) who profess an attraction to older men. At first being called "daddy" seemed offensive and insulting to me, but the first time I realized it was not being said to put me down but because the younger man was attracted, I was shocked. 

So it makes sense that it means something specific to you, given your actual parent status, but take a moment and consider what it might mean to the younger man who is calling you that. You might find a very positive mutual connection there.

I used to like it, but I find it tiresome now and tell guys not to call me that.

"Papi" is great.  I like it because it isn't worn out like "Daddy" is, and I generally adore Latin men.
