That mustache is hideous. Straight men need to stop it with the ugly facial hair. Jason Mamoa is pretty much the only man who pulls it off IMO.

I used to hate facial hair, but admit that I now find a nicely trimmed beard and stache attractive on the right guy.

I don't get the appeal of Benson Boone, though obviously some people find him handsome.

I don't think I've ever heard him sing.

Look up the song “Mystical Magical.” There’s a 99% chance you’ve heard it, even if you don’t actively listen to music. It was absolutely ubiquitous in pop culture for a while.

My husband says I like him cause he's a "youngster". Blah, I fell in love with him by chance, hearing a few songs before I even saw his face or body. After seeing that, it was just love and LUST!

I don’t follow much modern pop, but Benson Boone seems alright. He has a that-tries voice and seems sincere in his performances. While his style isn’t exactly what I grew up with in the 70s, I can appreciate the talent and emotional honesty he brings to his music. He seems like a solid young artist with real potential.

This is very true.

However, my comment was about VOICES, not music. I mentioned Stefani because she can sing without all the technology. I don't particularly like any of her music. I grew up listening to some of my parents music (the Beatles, Mamas and the Poppas) and I thought these people have great voices.

Whether of not I like the music, I dont hear anyone in today's scene who I feel is a talented singer. It's all stage performance, not vocalists that are important. I guess its the Madonna Ciccone effect. VERY successful performer in spite of the fact she took voice lessons for years and still embarrassed herself during the filming of Evita.

90 minutes into the Grammy awards and Gaga just gave the first vocal performance of the evening that’s worthy of the stage!

Their style of music isn't my thing, but I feel Alicia Keys and John Legend have the best voices of famous singer / songwriters today. Karen Carpenter to me had the most pleasing singing voice of anyone I've heard in my lifetime.

At least Benson got spot-on advice when he auditioned for American Idol - he was too good to waste his time competing on that show. It's been eons since that tv program churned out a winner with a consistent hit catalog.

He actually did compete on the show and was down to the top 24 when he decided to leave and persue things on his own.  He was getting rave reviews there and probably would have own as the vast majority of the winners on that show tend to be white boy men who appeal to the teens and old ladies who vote for the contestants.  He was smart to avoid winning as the winners are tied into a pretty strict contract which has then tied up for the first years of their career, which for many, are the most profitable.  There have been many successful careers off of American Idol many of which are related to contestants who did not win but who gained exposure and mentoring that helped them go on.  I think Boone is in that category as is Kelsea Ballerini.  Of course Jennifer Hudson is probably the most successful non winner.

Here is a local tv coverage of his Idol Audition  You can see at 18 he definitely did not have the body he has now. The boy has definitely working to get his body into shirtless stage ready.  There is a snippet of his voice from his audition tape which is not enhanced and he sounds pretty good on that.

Love him or roll your eyes at him, Benson Boone has somehow mastered the art of being impossible to ignore. Critics love to dismiss his music as “sugar-coated emotional cardio” and some even call him a discount Freddie Mercury with better hair and fewer operatic mustaches. But honestly? The man understands spectacle.

That back flip off the piano during the Academy Awards performance practically deserves its own stunt category. It single-handedly convinced me to keep watching the Oscars for at least one more year instead of collapsing face-first into my couch three hours in.

And then there’s the wardrobe. Those vacuum-sealed suits look like they were stitched directly onto him by NASA engineers. Between the dramatic vocals, the gymnast-level stage antics, and the aggressively tailored pants, he’s basically become a public service announcement for gay men updating their “hot celebrity” rankings.

Say what you want about the music, but the man performs like he’s trying to win both a Grammy and a decathlon at the same time - and frankly, that level of commitment deserves respect, at least IMHO.

He never performed at the Academy Awards. It was at the Grammys where he performed and did the backflip.
I know I said he wasn’t my type in my earlier post, but with his added muscle, I think he looks more attractive now. At only 23, he is still a growing man, and his facial features will continue to mature through his 30s.
