Not Calgary?

I was going to say Saskatoon but people would accuse me of making up a place name.

I've been to Saskatoon many times - much nicer than Regina IMHO.  If people think that name was made up, they should visit Newfoundland.  You can go to Dildo and Spread Eagle Bay, and if you play your cards right, end up in Climax, Saskatchewan.

Is Vegas like that all the time the weekend before Thanksgiving?

The Formula One Racing just started last year (2023), but they have a 3-year agreement with the county to hold it every year.  So, it will occur at least through 2025.

Thought it was a 5-year agreement, but it is only a 3-year agreement

"That said, turkey is overrated.  I'd rather eat great Mexican."

100% agree!

I'm intrigued by San Miguel de Allende.  This is the second time within the last month or so that this city has been recommended to me (not necessarily for Thanksgiving).  I'm guessing that the best way to get there is flying to Mexico City then get a bus or rental car (??).  Although I know Mexico City pretty well, I've heard it's dangerous for Americans to drive or take a bus outside of the city.  Of course I hear people say Mexico City is super dangerous which I know is BS.

Fly into Guanajuato or Queretaro.

You can then rent a car or have a car service pick you up for the hour ride.

Not to mention some hot guys I’ll be hosting in Madrid and Vàlencia!

Valencia just had a major flood disaster. From the looks of it, it will be months if not years to recover.

I know. My place wasn’t affected, thankfully. And the AVE will have resumed service from Madrid to Valencia by then.

Last time I was in Mexico city, I was meeting some friends for lunch. They were an hour late, because they were victims of an attempted car-jacking and had to answer a lot of questions for the police because my friend shot the carjackers with her beautiful pearl-handle pistol that she carries in her purse.  Of course Meixco City isn't a hell-hole of unbridled crime. But to claim it's "safe" would be grossly inaccurate. So dangerous- yes. Just maybe not "super dangerous".

In 2021 there were 281 reported carjackings in Mexico City, 500 in NYC and 1800 in Chicago, the latter being the worst in North America. Which would you call the most dangerous?

Is it a competition? NYC and Chicago having more "reported" carjackings (note the operative word…"reported"), doesn’t in any way make Mexico City a less dangerous place. Less dangerous than NYC or Chicago? Maybe, but no less dangerous overall.

I have no plans for Thanksgiving. Although I have an invitation to spend the day with a brother and his family, I've spent almost 70 years of my life being with family on major holidays, often hosting large gatherings myself.  Now I'd rather do something else, preferably getting on a plane and going somewhere in North America.  NYC seems like an obvious choice, but my favorite hotel is close to triple its usual rate during Thanksgiving.  I'm also leery of the  NYC Thanksgiving holiday tourist crowds.

Any suggestions for other destinations?

Furthermore - Mexico City is also several million people larger in population than metro NYC, and almost 2.5 times more populous than metro Chicago.  To extrapolate to Mexico City's size, Chicago would have about 4,500 car-jackings per year.
