Our famous 10-year Prague thread is over there somehow. And the Brazil thread. Otherwise it's mostly a Bangkok-centered site.

Yep, since the merger with GayThailandia, Asia is hegemonic. A nice preview of our future, thinking of the broader international culture and economy. Still, there is plenty of information on Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, y Latin America in general.

I think you meant to write this: "since the Politics forum was shut down.

To the best of my knowledge, the two were concurrent.

The quisling mobs from the echo-chamber of group-think were annoying in places other than the Politics forum. So it's been quite nice to have normal conversations with people without the constant interruptions from the "my way or the highway crowd".

Yes, indeed!

Yet some of them are still annoying when they deliberately draw false conclusions about very simple scientific information.

But isn't it nice not to have literal clowns trying to dumb down every topic with loony tunes conspiracy theories? I'm happy they were banned.

trying to keep this politics-free.....

mention was made upthread about the somewhat-parallel history of this forum (COM) and the forum now called gayguides......I'm not an insider, but can offer some comment from what I've learned for those interested in the history and for those newer to all this......others here in the forum know a lot more than me about the various personalities involved and are much-invited to correct any mistake I make here!

way back in "hooboy" days (pre-2006 or so), there was just one primary forum about providers (escorts).....hooboy started a website about 1999 called something like "male4maleescorts" because of his great interest in the subject and his desire to help others who dabbled in the hobby....in the early 2000s, hooboy was notorious for repeatedly losing his laptop while globetrotting, but was obsessed with getting the daily provider reviews posted on time......what is now the current COM forum you're at right now was also alive and well in those early "hooboy" days and had lively discussion and a host of charismatic posters (as we have today!).....at one point, I believe hooboy broke off political discussion into its own subforum to unclog the primary discussion forum......

hooboy died about 2006 and two of his techie IT-ish guys, believing in the "mission", vied to carry the site on.......there was something of a minor estate battle involving the "value" of the site between hooboy's real-life heirs and these two IT guys.....one of the two IT guys ("totallyoz" at gayguides) eventually created a site called, I think, "maleescortreview" (?) and the other IT guy ("daddy", who died in early 2021) created "daddysreviews" which has descended into this forum......both had/have popular forums and reviews......many here in the daddysreviews/COM forum famously referred only to the "other site" (avoiding mention of its real name) because "daddy" and "totallyoz" didn't get along in some way after hooboy's death......various forum members have come and gone, some joining both sites along the way (sometimes even with different handles!!) and occasionally offering vigorous commentary on the pros and cons of each site!.......of course, there are also many who join only one site or the other and have no interest in, or knowledge of, "the other site"......

possibly because of financial or marketing concerns, "totallyoz" of the "other site" eventually merged with larger messageboard hosting services (yuku and one or two others) and what is now called "gayguides" resulted.......as suggested upthread, it has become very much the leader of the two sites in international destination discussion of providers/sex work because, in part, totallyoz, I believe, lives overseas and because many of its forum members are only interested in those destinations.....

I think I have most of this correct......corrections or additions invited!

AZ - not an “insider” at all either, but been around these forums since the HooBoy days, and your succinct summary is how I remember things playing out 👍🏻

I do remember another site too - “toyboy” or “boytoy” or something like that. I remember I was looking on here for info about a specific European destination, and another forum member suggested via PM that I try there. I did, and as I remember the site was lousy with vitriol directed at this site, those running it, those on it, etc., and the posters made DataLounge seem like a bunch of church ladies 🤣

Boytoy is Gayguides before the merger with the Asian forums. During Daddy's regency, posters banned here would shelter over there and spit their unhappiness. It still happens.

I agree.

Everyone is allowed an opinion. Some people just don't know how to disagree without it turning ugly.

No point in "discussing" any topic if you are subject to GROUP-THINK and expect everyone to agree.

The things I appreciate about this forum are when members are willing to share their experiences in the hobby most of us share in common; that they do so in a civil way when expressing opinions, and that they engage in intelligent conversations.

I can do without the drama and when I see things going that way I tend to withdraw. I must admit there was a lot of drama in the politics forum. Just as in real life I suppose.

Just a couple of corrections:

HB started the site from multiple late-night brainstorm sessions with then-escort Aaron Lawrence.  Aaron is a smart guy who understands gaps in markets and he saw a review site as something that didn't exist and was needed.  HB agreed.  The message board became the branch off and both were wildly popular, with very strong daily internet traffic.  That traffic is what allowed the site to financially self-support from ads and sponsored content.

When HB died, his family had zero clue about this side of his life.  It was tough for his mother, who was still alive.  She was pretty 'old school' and when she found everything out, she was adamant about just shutting it all down.  It was her prerogative.  I can't blame her for wanting closure.  It was absolutely devastating to her.

The politics forum was probably as heated as any political discussions are these days. There is much disagreement over social issues in the US..and these social issues are being used by political activists.

People are passionate about issues that affect their life, and to a degree sometimes their passion selfishly undermines the personal priorities and passions of the other-side-of-the-aisle ...so they look to bully people into believing their side is "right" and the other side is "wrong".  More than "drama", I think bullying is what most people experienced when people can't find that their personal opinions are shared by everyone in the group.

The drama ensues once their discomfort turns to name calling. I miss hearing the different perspectives on fhe current tectonic shifts in American society but I certainly don't miss the childish name calling that I experienced here.

I am told some of the members who were banned here have gathered their toys and moved over to Gayguides.com. Now gleefully trashing THIS forum on THAT forum because they couldn't get everyone to agree with their opinions.

Just for the record, Totally Oz attended the Palm Springs Weekend a few years ago, and he and Daddy conversed amicably. Any tension between them seemed to have dissipated once the Hooboy estate issues resolved. At least, that's how I saw it.

Absolutely. The only ones interested on the beef between both sites are the disgruntled ones banned from here and the crazies from here who still survive and are nostalgic of a place to spread their bigotry.

i just stick to reading posts on both sites that are informative and factual about the only subject that matters to me:  “Fantastic Escorts and where to find them”.

Here! Here!  I've been at both sites for a good while.  ...became a member of the former "BoyToy" now "GayGuides" at its inception and am mighty glad that I NEVER participated in all of the unnecessary disagreements and overall foolishness.  To this date, I am the better for it and continue to view, read and write.

You are not the only one. Several members participate in both sites, in a few cases even with the same nom de plume. They did not allow me to change my screen name, as in here, so I am still latberar4blk over there.

One of the legendary members who kept a high profile on both communities was @AdamSmith until he was permanently banned by Daddy here (according to Adam). After that, Adam stayed only in BoyToy. Even today, he is among the top five contributors of all time over there when he has been dead for more than two years, taken by the pandemic.

When I was a newbie here, and I would mention Boytoy, veteran members would reach out to me through PM to warn me that I was risking getting in trouble with Daddy. They told me we could use the euphemism "the other site" but never mention the name or link to Boytoy. However, Daddy never confronted me.

Very often, members banned by Daddy would go over there to bitch about the state of things here. TotallyOz (Boytoy's owner) would get upset and send the thread to the Sandbox. For those curious and with Historian's hearts, you may be interested in researching that folder over there. For instance, you would find several threads about the infamous scandal around Escort of the Year.

I agree that this is a problem. Accusations are easy; defending from them much more difficult. The Duke Lacrosse case always comes to mind. I would certainly support stronger punishments for false accusations.
