The "Chat with ..." function on rentmen

More and more of the guys I find interesting do not list a phone number on rentmen.  The only option for contacting them appears to be the "chat with escort" function (I am not a RM member and don't want to be).  It appears that to use it, you need to supply an email address, which sets off alarm bells for me (though I do have a semi-burner email address I could use).  

I'd appreciate feedback from those of you who have used it.  In particular,

1. will I be subjected forever thereafter to emails/messages from RM?
2. do escorts actually reply?  and do such replies ultimately result in a phone number (I prefer to talk before I hire someone new)?

Anything else you want to add is welcome.

I'm a premium client on RM so can chat with new and old providers who post ads. I always start a new contact by using the chatline. Thsat way they can see my profile as well as I can see all the info on theirs, including semi-private pics.

Initiating contact on the chatline also means I can post a review if I do hire. In 99 percent of the cases I get a response to my chat enquiry. I often switch to private text after we have established a rapport on the chatline.

In one case recently I only got the provider's phone number after our third session. We have now had 4 and he has become a regular for me.

I've initiated chats with three providers. One of them has ignored me completely for reasons unknown.  The other two replied quickly, and happily shared their phone numbers. (Although one of them already had it listed on his profile.) Have had pleasant exchanges with both of them - I really think the chat helps break the ice.  I will take it to texting when I'm ready to engage.

The only emails I ever get from RM is an alert when so-and-so left a message on the chat board or in messenger.

I highly suggest you go ahead and make a free RM client account. I didn't want any emails either from the site so after I made an account and activated it I went into the settings and changed my email to "noemail@noemail.com" and it's been like that for 2 years now. And yes I'd say the majority of guys do respond to chat messages on there and will provide their phone number. Guys who don't post it usually just are trying to weed out scammers and flakes. If they don't reply to chat messages on there they usually have an auto reply message set up to have you text them instead. Personally as well I like having all my stats and info about myself on my client page so it saves the provider from asking about all that. You don't have to fill out that section though if you don't want to.

I've been a Rentmen member for many, many years and have never received emails from them except for the monthly note confirming my membership payment was successful.

agree.........but I also get occasional "we're investigating" and "that profile has been deleted" notes from them when I report a fake! 🙂

I find the automatic responses from clients on messenger frustrating. It almost encourages them to overlook a message that you do send. And then add to that if you are using the messenger, you can see if they’ve logged in to RM since you sent your last message or even looked at your message since you sent it, and whether they responded or not. I love the double checks and no response for any apparent reason. I wonder if a simple “uninterested” is a lot to ask. It seems communication standards have really deteriorated since I was growing up…

What bugs me about instant messenger and communications with escorts in general is when you ask 2 simple questions upfront and only get an answer to one question. Sorry….but I don’t follow up and ask again…just move on to someone else.

So it cracks me up when providers complain about the “time wasters” who don’t follow thru

@dbar123, I think most providers don’t actually care what clients are looking for. They are very concerned about making money and anything that stands in the way of making a quick, easy buck (answering questions) is a “waste of time.”

I automatically include my number in my RM auto reply. I prefer to move to phone versus the platform.

I will occasionally follow up with a regular reply in addition to my auto response, if I don’t hear back from the client. But overall, I don’t engage with back and forth conversations on there. If I did that regularly, I don’t think I would get much accomplished during my day.

Not to mention, many of the messages I get on RM messenger are commentary, not informative. Therefore, it’s not much need for me to stay plugged in to it, responding round the clock. If I did that, I’d not get anything done throughout my week.

I don't understand why but they prefer to text using the RM chat instead of using the regular phone. It's their business choice! Some might even have a handler doing it for them. It's amazing the time escorts nowadays spend texting on the phone... It's a job on its own!

Time wasters happen both ways. Personally I would rather talk for 2 minutes instead of texting for 30. 

Escorts complain about the same situation with potential clients I will simply ask again. The younger they are the shorter the attention.

I also wouldn't "move on' so fast just because a certain question not being answered.

I do agree with the culture of instant gratification but it doesn't apply to younger escorts. Sometimes clients cancel just because the escort doesn't reply to one of their texts right away and they feel ignored, is like the world is collapsing... WTF!

As a side question - I wondered if there is a way to tell if a  'chat' recipient has deleted a conversation on his end.  And would it disappear on my end, too?  If I receive no response to a polite and respectful initial inquiry am I supposed to keep trying?  Or does my original offer 'live' on his message board for future reference?

(I gather the 'double check mark' next to a message indicates the recipient has at least seen the message, even if he doesn't bother to reply.)

Rentmen will eventually clean out the message, but I don’t remember how long they stayed.

My experience (and it's with rent.men not v7.0) is that it's set to your local time. That is clouded because (IIRC) it says n minutes/hours ago to start with. The time stamp in messenger is different to the one that shows the 'last on' time for escorts, which uses UTC.

In V7.0 if you sort your buddy list by 'last time online' (not previously an option, as far as I could tell the default list from last you followed to first was all that was available) those who have chosen to display 'private' rather than the actual time will be listed at the place in the chronological order where they belong so you have some idea when they were last on line.

I may be confused, but wasn’t there an E-mail option on the old RM to contact providers? For some reason I’m remembering exchanging e-mail messages on the RM platform with providers, and the chat function, in my memory, only worked when both of you were online at the same time 🤷🏼‍♂️

There was but it has been disabled except for RM sending e-mails to us, and for any convos that were open when they restricted it. I can't speak to whether both had to be on line for chat to work in earlier iterations of the software.

I have occasionally gotten solicitations from guys that I have looked at.  But I do get responses from most of the guys.  I do have a email address that I only use for RM and porn site registrations.  I do give out my phone number and have never had a problem, but I guys I hire have a history on RM so I now they are not going to harass me  or out me
