He should do research on his rates, I would pass on $500 unless it was a two hour thing or more than just an hour

He notes in the ad it's not his full-time job, so he may not be operating in the typical market space.  He's got something that's unusual and there are likely SOME customers who will pay a premium for that.  The fact that most people don't want to pay that for him doesn't mean there aren't enough people that will to keep him in business.
